Where Can I Test A Purple Mattress – Our Purple Hybrid Mattress Review 2021

This review will focus on the Purple Hybrid Premier and Purple Hybrid Premier mattress. These beds are made with the company’s Hyper-Elastic Polymer Purple grid, plus layers of springy pocketsed coils. Although the specifications sound interesting, I have to admit that these beds are not comfortable. Are Purple Hybrids a Good Mattress?

Purple was founded in 2015. It has become one of the most loved bedding brands thanks to its quirky advertisements and innovative products. It sells three varieties of hybrid mattresses: the Purple Hybrid Premier 3 or Purple Hybrid Premier 4 and the Purple Hybrid Premier 3. The only thing that differs between these beds are the amounts of Purple’s unique grid layer. The Premier 3 Hybrid has 2 inches, the Premier 3 3 inches and the Premier 4 4 inches. 4 inches.

As a result, these beds offer different amounts of pressure relief, but otherwise feel pretty similar. Take a look below to learn a little more about who each model might work best for.

Who I recommend a Purple Hybrid for

Back sleepers who desire a firmer feel for their backs should choose the original Purple Hybrid. Those who want more pressure relief might prefer to use the Purple Premier.

Side sleepers could really like the Purple Premier 4, which offers a ton of cushioning around sensitive pressure points.

Stomach-sleepers will enjoy the support of the original Purple Hybrid.

Hot sleepers should appreciate how cooling each of these mattresses are.

Combination sleepers will love the bounce of these beds! Where Can I Test A Purple Mattress

Who I don’t recommend a Purple Hybrid for

Couples might not like the Purple mattresses.

You’ll likely feel a partner turning and tossing in the night because they’re so happy.

If you’re trouble sleeping at night, a memory foam mattress might be a better fit. Where Can I Test A Purple Mattress

How Firm are Purple Hybrid mattresses?

Where Can I Test A Purple MattressNext up, let’s get into what these bed-in-a-box hybrids actually feel like. Below, I’ll go over what it felt like to sleep on all three of the Purple Hybrid models. Remember that feelings are subjective and may vary depending on how you sleep. For reference, I’m 5’9″, about 125 lbs, and prefer to sleep on my side.

You can see that I thought each of the three mattresses had a very distinct feel. I will break them down below to give you my thoughts.

Purple Hybrids on a mattress firmness rating scale.

Purple Hybrid: This mattress was quite firm so I gave it a 7 on the mattress firmness scale. This mattress has a firmer feel than the industry norm of 6.5 for medium-firmness. As the polymer layer on this mattress is thin enough to support a smooth spine, I believe stomach and back sleeping would be most benefited.

Purple Hybrids are great for back sleepers.

Purple Hybrid Premier 3 – I gave this bed an 8.6 out of 10. It felt medium-firm to me. Combination sleepers who shift between different positions during the night as well as those with sciatica or lower back pain would benefit from this bed. It was able to provide pressure relief as well as support so that you can feel at ease in any of your sleeping positions.

The Purple Hybrid Premier 3 could feel comfortable to combination sleepers.

Purple Hybrid Premier 4, I gave this mattress a 6 on the mattress firmness scale. The soft mattress was very supportive and cradled all my pressure points. But, I still didn’t feel “stuck-in” the bed. This mattress would be a good choice for side or combination sleepers. I believe these people will love the pressure-relieving comfort of this mattress.

Side sleepers may like the Purple Hybrid Premier 4

Before we wrap this section up, I want to note that all three of the Purple Hybrids had a bouncy, responsive feel. These beds felt more like “on top” than “in”, and it was easy to switch positions during the night. These are my top picks for combination sleepers. Where Can I Test A Purple Mattress

Are Purple Hybrids Good for Light Sleepers (under 130lb)?

Light Back Sleepers – I believe the Hybrid Premier 3 is an excellent choice for light back sleepers. It should fill in their lumbar areas for pressure relief and also provides plenty of support for those who are lighter. You could also try one of the other hybrids.

For light side sleepers, the Premier 4 is the best choice. Side sleepers will appreciate the pressure relief it provides.

Light Stomach sleepers – I would recommend they stick to the original Purple Hybrid. They should have their hips aligned with each other. Where Can I Test A Purple Mattress

Are the Purple Hybrids Good Mattresses for Average Weight Sleepers (130 – 250 lb)?

Average Weight Back sleepers – The Hybrid Premier 3 is the perfect choice because it combines pressure relief with support. If you need to move around at night, it’s a good option.

Side sleepers with average weights – The Premier 4 mattress is the best for them. The thick layer of hyperelastic polymer on the top allows for plenty of pressure relief at the shoulders, hips, and hips.

Average Weight Stomach – The original Purple Hybrid should have enough support to keep these people’s spines straight. Where Can I Test A Purple Mattress

Are Purple Hybrids good for heavy sleepers (over 250lb)?

Heavy Back Sleepers – I’d recommend these sleepers stick to the Premier 3, which is thick enough to be durable, but won’t feel overly soft.

Heavy Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is a nice choice for heavy side sleepers. These people will find the Premier 4 comfortable due to its thick grid layer that allows for lots of sinkage.

Heavy Stomach Sleepers – I wouldn’t recommend any of these beds to heavy stomach sleepers, who need a firmer mattress to provide optimal support. A better choice for heavy people is one of our top mattresses. Where Can I Test A Purple Mattress

Purple Hybrids Pain Relief

Pressure relief is closely related to pain relief. It is an indicator of how well a mattress can ease tension at the shoulders and hips. A pressure map is a great way to test this.

Though it sounds complicated, it’s actually quite simple: I roll this gizmo out, hop aboard, and let the map do the rest! As I move around the bed, the gadget records the force my body’s exerting on the map, and makes a colored “map” of the pressure. Blue zones indicate areas of low pressure, and red areas of high.

Pressure relief is one of the benefits of Purple Hybrids.

Back Pain Based upon these pressure map results the original Purple Hybrid mattress is the best for those suffering from back pain. The map is uniformly blue, but it doesn’t show any gaps around the lower back as the Premier 3 and 4 maps. This indicates that the original Hybrid is maintaining my weight evenly supported. This is important in order to avoid back pain.

Shoulder Pain Based upon these results, all three beds are great choices for those suffering from shoulder pain. To alleviate pressure, they should do a great job of cushioning the shoulder region.

Hip Pain The Premier 4 is the clear winner for folks with hip pain. Its pressure map is nearly completely blue, which means that sensitive hip joints will be cradled throughout night. Where Can I Test A Purple Mattress

Purple Hybrid Mattress Performance for Couples

Couples often prefer beds that isolate motion transfer, are responsive enough for sex, are cooling, and feature good edge support. Check out the Purple Hybrids to find out how they stack up in these areas.

Motion Transfer

Motion transfer is the amount of movement detectable from one side of the bed to the other. This is important for all sleepers but especially for couples who share a bedroom with a child, furry friend, or other people.

I dropped a steel ball weighing 10 lbs from heights of 4, 8 and 12 inches. This was to demonstrate motion transfer.

The motion transfer results of Purple Hybrids are impressive.

Given how soft these mattresses are, it’s not surprising that they don’t provide much motion isolation. This means that you will feel movement throughout the three mattresses. Where Can I Test A Purple Mattress

Sex

Best mattress for sex usually combines good motion isolation with enough bounce to make it easy to move around.

Personal opinion: I find the Purple Hybrids a bit too lively to share if one is a light sleeper.

If you don’t mind being disturbed at night, these guys could be great options for sex because of their mobility and lift.

Cooling

The Purple Hybrids all have incredible cooling properties.

Hot sleepers should be happy on any of these beds. These beds are also great for cooling down.

This is great news especially for couples, as they tend to heat up faster than solo sleepers. Where Can I Test A Purple Mattress

Edge Support

Edge support can be described as the degree to which you are able to rest on one side of your mattress and still feel supported. Great edge support can make your mattress feel a bit bigger, since you can spread out across its entire surface.

I thought all three Purple mattresses had good edge support. I could feel the Purple grid layer begin to compress under my weight but the foam and coils below were firm and supportive.

Personally, I thought that the Purple Premier 3 had some of the best edge support. Where Can I Test A Purple Mattress

What are the Purple Hybrids Made of?

Let’s now get to the bottom of what these beds are made from! I know most people want to know more information about the Purple Grid layer. This purple top layer is what gives Purple mattresses their unique look.

Below is a detailed description of the grid and all other layers of the mattress. The Purple Hybrids all have the same construction. The only difference is how many inches of the Purple Grid each bed uses.

Cover All these mattresses feature a breathable and stretchy polyester blend mattress cover.

Comfort Layer Directly below the cover is where you’ll encounter the hyper-elastic polymer smart comfort grid. This grid is bouncy, supportive, and incredibly cooling. Although it is hard to describe how the polymer material feels, I liken it as a water bed. It supports and cradles you body as you move. The original purple Hybrid uses 2 inches of the Grid, while the Hybrid Premier 3 uses 3 inches and the Hybrid Premier 4 uses 4 inches. The mattress will feel more pressure-relieving if there’s more grid.

The Purple Grid.

Transition Layer Next up, you’ll land on a layer of poly foam. This transition foam works to ease the sleeper down through the soft top grid and onto the sturdier pocketed coil system below.

Support Layer The bulk of both the Hybrid and Hybrid Premier mattresses is a section of pocketed coils. These springs provide a lift to the mattress and are extremely buoyant. In general, you’ll likely feel more “on top” of these beds as the polymer grid and pocketed coils produce a ton of buoyancy.

Let’s take a look at some of the materials used to make the Purple Hybrid layers. Where Can I Test A Purple Mattress

Purple Hybrids Unboxing, Off-Gassing

The Purple Hybrids are all bed-in-a-box mattresses, but they actually come in bags instead of boxes! Purple provides complimentary white glove delivery on Hybrid Premier models. They are extremely heavy. While the original Purple Hybrid is not as difficult to lift, it’s still worth having someone nearby to help you bag it. This mattress is not as strong in off-gassing as other bed-ina-box mattresses. Any scent should disappear in a matter of hours.

My Final Thoughts about Purple Hybrid Mattresses Well folks, we’ve arrived at the end of the review. After going over every possible detail I could think of, it’s now time to decide if one of these mattresses is right for you. And though I can’t make that decision for you, I can leave you with a few final thoughts to help you get there on your own.

Purple Hybrid is one of my favorite mattresses

I really love how cooling all of the Purple Hybrids are. They don’t trap as much body heat, so anyone who is hot sleeping should be able to enjoy these beds. I love the responsiveness of Purple Hybrids. These beds will be easy to adjust for combination sleepers.

The Purple Grid’s feel is great. It helps you achieve a healthy spine alignment while still feeling incredible in pressure relieving. It is especially effective when you opt for one of the thicker models. The Purple is an excellent choice for those who want to experience a more distinctive feel. My Purple Hybrid mattresses complaints

Purple mattresses may not offer the best motion isolation. This is not a problem, but if you are constantly disturbed at night, you may want to consider a traditional memory foam mattress. It will absorb more motion.

I also wanted to mention that some customers complained about the Purple mattress’s tendency to sag and form indentations. The Purple Hybrids are more durable due to the innerspring coil layers. However, heavier people might prefer a different mattress. You should place any Purple bed on a sturdy platform. Where Can I Test A Purple Mattress

How do the Purple Hybrids ship?

All the Purple Hybrids ship for free.

They will arrive compressed in bags and may require some time for decompression and off-gassing. Purple Hybrid Premier mattresses are shipped free with white gloves.

Purple Hybrid Premier mattresses ship free to your doorstep, however you will need to pay extra for in-home delivery. Where Can I Test A Purple Mattress

What is the difference between the original Purple Hybrid mattress and the Purple Hybrid Premier mattresses?

These mattresses are identical except for the amount of Purple Grid used.

Purple Hybrid Premier 3 and Purple Hybrid Premier 3 have layers of 2-inch grid, 3-inch grid, and 4 inch grid, respectively.

Where are Purple mattresses made?

Purple mattresses are made in the USA.

Can I use the Purple Hybrid Mattresses with a Box Spring?

Purple doesn’t recommend using a Box Spring with any of its beds.

These experts recommend using a solid platform, slatted or adjustable bed frame.

Purple Hybrid Vs.

Let’s now take a deep dive into the Purple Hybrid Premier, and see how they compare with other mattresses you can find on the Internet.

Purple Hybrids vs Leesa Hybrid

Like the Purple Hybrids, the Leesa Hybrid combines foam layers with pocketed coils for a one-two punch of pressure relief and support.

It does however have a more traditional feel to it than any Purple beds. So, this could work for those who aren’t keen on Purple’s unique feel.

For couples or back sleepers, the Leesa Hybrid is my recommendation.

Purple Hybrids vs Casper Hybrid

Casper has zoned support. It’s more firm at the hips than the Purples. The shoulders are softer to provide optimal lumbar support.

Purples can be more bouncy than the Casper Hybrids, which may appeal to combination sleepers.

The Purple 3 (and Purple 4) are slightly more pressure relieving than the Casper Hybrid. Where Can I Test A Purple Mattress

Purple Hybrids vs Original Purple

The Original Purple mattress’s support layer consists of high-density, poly foam rather than pocketed coils.

The Original Purple is supportive, bouncy, and firm. This may appeal to combination sleepers.

The Original Purple mattress is similar to the Purple Hybrids and can be very cooling.

The Original Purple is much cheaper than either Purple Hybrid Premier and Purple Hybrid Premier.
