How Firm are the Purple Hybrid Mattresses?

Feelings are subjective and will vary depending on your body type and preferred sleeping position. For example, I’m 5’9″, approximately 125 lbs., and prefer sleeping on my side.

Purple Hybrid Premier 3 – I gave this bed an 8.6 out of 10. It felt medium-firm to me. I’d especially recommend this bed to combination sleepers who move between multiple positions in the night and those suffering from lower back pain or looking for a mattress for sciatica . It offered pressure relief and support, which I believe could be used in any position.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 could feel great for couples who are looking to sleep together.
Purple Hybrid Premier 4 – I scored this bed at 6 out 10 on the mattress firmness rating scale. This soft mattress supported my pressure points well and provided a good amount of sinkage. However, the bed didn’t feel like it was “stuck in” to me. Side sleepers and side-combined sleepers would love this mattress. This mattress is great for relieving pressure.

Light Back Sleepers – I think the Hybrid Premier 3 is a great fit for lightweight back sleepers, it should really fill in their lumbar regions for some nice pressure relief, and is plenty supportive for lighter folks. For these sleepers, any one of the hybrids may also be suitable.
Light Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is the way to go for these sleepers as well. It offers great pressure relief, which is important for side sleepers.

Side sleepers who are average in weight – the Premier 4 is the best option for these sleepers. Its thick top layer of hyper-elastic polymer provides plenty of room to sink in for pressure relief at the shoulders and hips.

Heavy Back Sleepers–I recommend these sleepers stick the Premier 3 because it is thick enough to last but not soft.

Purple Hybrids Pain Relief Performance
Pressure relief is closely related to pain relief. It is an indicator of how well a mattress can ease tension at the shoulders and hips. To test for this, I like to use a pressure map.
Although it sounds complex, it’s actually quite straightforward. I simply roll this device out, get on, and the map will do the rest. The device tracks the force my body exerts on the surface of the map as I move, and then creates a colored map showing the pressure. Blue indicates areas of low pressure and red indicates areas of high pressure.

Back Pain Based off these pressure map results, we believe that the original Purple Hybrid will be the best option for back pain sufferers. The map is bright blue throughout, but does not gape around the lower spine like the Premier 3 & 4 maps. This tells me the original Hybrid is keeping my weight evenly supported, which is a key to avoiding back pain.
Shoulder Pain Based on these results, all three of these beds are great fits for sleepers with shoulder pain! They should do a nice job cushioning the shoulder area to relieve pressure.
