We will be reviewing the Purple Hybrid Premier and Purple Hybrid Premier mattresses. These beds feature the Hyper-Elastic Polymer Purple grid as well as layers of springy pockets and coils. Although the specifications sound interesting, I have to admit that these beds are not comfortable. Twin Purple Mattress
To find out, I gave these mattresses a thorough review, assessing how they’re built, how they feel, and how well they support certain sleepers.

Is a Purple Hybrid a Good Mattress for You?
Purple was founded 2015 and has been a household name ever since. Its innovative products and cheeky advertisements have helped make Purple a popular brand in the bedding market. It offers three hybrid mattresses, the Purple Hybrid Premier 3 (Purple Hybrid Premier 3), and the Purple Hybrid Premier 4 (Purple Hybrid Premier 4). The only difference is the amount of Purple’s special grid layer in each bed. The Premier 3 Hybrid has 2 inches, the Premier 3 3 inches and the Premier 4 4 inches. 4 inches
Although the pressure relief offered by these beds is different, they feel almost identical. Let’s take a closer look at each model to see if it might be the right one for you.

Who I recommend a Purple Hybrid for
The Purple Hybrid original is ideal for back sleepers who prefer a firmer feel. Purple Premier 3 might be more suitable for those who require a bit more pressure relief.
Side sleepers may like the Purple Premier 4, as it offers great cushioning around sensitive pressure points.
People who sleep on their stomachs will appreciate the comforting feel of the original Purple Hybrid.
These mattresses should be appreciated by hot sleepers.
These beds will appeal to combination sleepers. Twin Purple Mattress
Who I don’t recommend a Purple Hybrid for
Purple mattresses may not be for everyone.
You’ll likely feel a partner turning and tossing in the night because they’re so happy.
If you’re trouble sleeping at night, a memory foam mattress might be a better fit. Twin Purple Mattress
How Firm are the Purple Hybrid Mattresses?
Next, let us get into how these bed in a box hybrids feel. Below I’ll share what it was like to lie down on any of the Purple Hybrid mattresses. You should keep in mind that the feeling of sleep is subjective and can vary depending on your preferences and body type. For example, I’m 5’9″, approximately 125 lbs., and prefer sleeping on my side.
You can see that I thought each of the three mattresses had a very distinct feel. I will break them down below to give you my thoughts.
Purple Hybrids in the mattress firmness scale.
Purple Hybrid – I found this mattress to have a very firm feel, so I gave it 7/10 on the mattress firmness rating. This mattress will be more supportive than the industry standard of 6.5, which is for medium firmness. I think stomach or back sleepers would benefit most from this feel, as the polymer layer is thin enough to support an even spinal line from hips to shoulders.
Back sleepers should enjoy the feel of the Purple Hybrid.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3: I gave this bed a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, and felt it had a true medium-firm feel. Combination sleepers who shift between different positions during the night as well as those with sciatica or lower back pain would benefit from this bed. It struck a really nice balance between pressure relief and support that I think could feel comfortable in most sleeping positions.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 could be comfortable for combination sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier #4: I gave it a 6 out 10. This soft mattress truly supported my pressure points, and gave me a great amount of sinkage. However, the bed didn’t feel like it was “stuck in” to me. This mattress would suit side sleepers or side combo sleepers. This mattress’ pressure relieving qualities will be appreciated by side sleepers and side combination sleepers.
Side sleepers will love the Purple Hybrid Premier 4.
Before I wrap up this section, I wanted to mention that all three Purple Hybrids had a responsive, bouncy feel. These beds made me feel more “on top” of them than “in” them. It was also easy to move around at night. These are my top picks for combination sleepers. Twin Purple Mattress
Are Purple Hybrids Good Mattresses For Light Sleepers (Under 130 Pounds)?
Light Back Sleepers: The Hybrid Premier 3 should be suitable for light-weight back sleepers. It will fill in the lumbar region for good pressure relief. Either of the other hybrids could also work for these sleepers.
Light Side Sleepers-The Premier 4 is the ideal choice for these types of sleepers. It provides great pressure relief which is essential for side sleepers.
Light Stomach Sleepers- These people should stick with the original Purple Hybrid. It will keep their hips in line with their shoulders. Twin Purple Mattress
Are Purple Hybrids suitable for average-weight sleepers (130 – 250 lb), or are they not?
Average Weight Back Sleepers: The Hybrid Premier 3 is great for those who are average weight. It combines pressure relief and support. If you need to move around at night, it’s a good option.
Average Weight Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is a great choice for these people. Its thick top layer of hyper-elastic polymer provides plenty of room to sink in for pressure relief at the shoulders and hips.
Average Weight Stomach Sleepers-The original Purple Hybrid should provide enough support to keep their spines straight. Twin Purple Mattress
Are Purple Hybrids suitable for heavy sleepers (over 250lb).
Heavy Back Sleepers – I would recommend this sleeper stick to the Premier 3 which is thick enough that it will last, but doesn’t feel too soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is a nice choice for heavy side sleepers. These people will find the Premier 4 comfortable due to its thick grid layer that allows for lots of sinkage.
Heavy Stomach Sleepers – I wouldn’t recommend these beds for heavy stomach sleepers. They will need a firmer, more supportive mattress. A better choice for heavy people is one of our top mattresses. Twin Purple Mattress
Purple Hybrids Pain Relief Performance
Pressure relief and pain relief are closely connected. This refers to how well a bed is capable of relieving tension at the hips and shoulders. To check this, I use a Pressure Map.
Though it sounds complicated, it’s actually quite simple: I roll this gizmo out, hop aboard, and let the map do the rest! The gadget records the force of my body on the map and gives me a colored “map”. Blue indicates areas of low pressure and red indicates areas of high pressure.
The Purple Hybrids provide pressure relief.
Back Pain Based on these results, the original Purple Hybrid is the best choice for people with back pain. Although the map is blue all over, it doesn’t have a gap at the lower back like Premier 3 and 4 maps. This tells me the original Hybrid is keeping my weight evenly supported, which is a key to avoiding back pain.
Shoulder pain Based on these findings, all three of the beds are great options for shoulder pain sufferers! To alleviate pressure, they should do a great job of cushioning the shoulder region.
Hip Pain The Prime 4 is the clear winner in hip pain. The pressure map of the Premier 4 is almost entirely blue, meaning that sensitive hip joints can be cradled throughout. Twin Purple Mattress
Purple Hybrid Mattress Performances For Couples
Couples like beds that do not transmit motion, are comfortable for sex, and have excellent edge support. You can read on to see how Purple Hybrids stack in these areas.
Motion transfer describes the movement from one side or the other of the bed. This is a crucial factor for any sleeper, but particularly for those who share a mattress with a child or furry pet friend.
I dropped a 10-lb steel ball at heights of 4″, 8″ and 12 inches to illustrate motion transfer. The disturbance it caused was measured: the larger the lines, the greater the disturbance.
The Purple Hybrids’ motion transfer results.
Considering how bouncy these mattresses are, I’m not that surprised to see they don’t offer great motion isolation. What this tells me is that you’re likely to feel movement across all three mattresses, which means they may not be the best fit for couples, especially if one partner is easily disturbed at night. Twin Purple Mattress
Best mattress for sex usually combines good motion isolation with enough bounce to make it easy to move around.
If you are light sleeper, the Purple Hybrids may be too bouncey for you to share.
If you don’t mind being disturbed at night, these guys could be great options for sex because of their mobility and lift.
All of the Purple Hybrids are incredibly cooling.
These beds are great for hot sleepers. I’d say they’re also some of the best cooling mattresses you can find.
This is great news, especially for couples that tend to overheat faster than solo sleepers. Twin Purple Mattress
Edge support can be described as the degree to which you are able to rest on one side of your mattress and still feel supported. Great edge support can make your mattress feel a bit bigger, since you can spread out across its entire surface.
All three Purple mattresses I tested had excellent edge support. I could feel the Purple grid layer compress under my weight, but the foam and coils below stayed firm and supportive.
I personally thought that the Purple Premier 3 provided the best edge support. Twin Purple Mattress
What are Purple Hybrids Made Of?
Let’s next look at what these beds are made out of. Most of you will want to know more about the Purple Grid layer. This is the purple top layer, which gives Purple mattresses their distinctive feel.
Below I’ll detail the grid as well as all of the mattress layers. All Purple Hybrids are made the same. The only difference is the amount of Purple Grid each bed uses.
Cover All these mattresses come with a waterproof and stretchy polyester-blend mattress cover.
Comfort Layer The hyper-elastic comfort grid is located below the cover. This grid is very cooling and supportive. It’s hard to describe the feeling of this polymer material. I would liken it to an incredibly soft water bed. It cradles your body while you move. The original purple Hybrid used 2 inches of Grid, while the Hybrid Premier 3 and Hybrid Premier 4 use 3 inches and 4 respectively. The mattress will feel less pressure-relieving, the larger the grid.
The Purple Grid.
Transition Layer Next you’ll find a layer poly foam. This transition foam allows the sleeper to slide through the soft top grid onto the more solid pocketed coil system.
Support Layer: The bulk of Hybrid Premier or Hybrid Premier mattresses consists of a section made of pocketed coils. These springs provide a lift to the mattress and are extremely buoyant. You will feel more “on top” of these beds because the pocketsed coils and polymer grid provide a lot buoyancy.

Purple Hybrids Unboxing And Off-Gassing
Purple Hybrids can be described as all-bed-in a-box mattresses but come in bags. The Hybrid Premier models are very heavy, so Purple throws in complimentary white glove delivery with those beds. Although the original Purple Hybrid is easier to lift, I recommend that you have a friend to help with unbagging it. This mattress is not as strong in off-gassing as other bed-ina-box mattresses. Any scent should disappear in a matter of hours.
Let me conclude my review on Purple Hybrid Mattresses. After reviewing every detail, it’s time now to make the decision about which mattress is best for you. While I cannot make this decision for you personally, I can give you some final thoughts that will help you to make the right choice.
Purple Hybrid Mattresses: My favourite features
I love the cooling effect of Purple Hybrids. They don’t trap much body heat at all, so I think most hot sleepers out there should be very happy on these beds! I also like how responsive the Purple Hybrid models are. Combination sleepers won’t have any trouble changing positions on these beds.
The Purple Grid is a great feeling. It helps you achieve a healthy spine alignment while still feeling incredible in pressure relieving. You will find it to be extremely comfortable, especially if you go for the thicker models. The Purple is an excellent choice for those who want to experience a more distinctive feel. My Purple Hybrid Mattress complaints
Purple mattresses do not have the best motion isolation. Even though this isn’t an issue, if you are sensitive to motion, a traditional memory mattress might be a better choice.
A few customers have complained about their original Purple mattress becoming sagging and indentations. Purple Hybrids have innerspring coil layers that make them more durable. If this is a problem, heavy people might choose to switch to a different model. To increase the life expectancy of your Purple bed, make sure it is placed on a stable platform and not a box spring. Purple Hybrid Vs.
Let’s now take a deep dive into the Purple Hybrid Premier, and see how they compare with other mattresses you can find on the Internet.
Purple Hybrids vs Leesa Hybrid
The Leesa Hybrid, like the Purple Hybrids has foam layers and pocketed coils to provide pressure relief and support.
Although it does have a traditional feel, it’s still more comfortable than any Purple beds. It could also work well for people who don’t want Purple’s unique feel.
The Leesa Hybrid is a good choice for couples and back sleepers.
Purple Hybrids vs Casper Hybrid
Casper’s zoned support is unlike the Purples. It is firmer at the hips and softer at the shoulders, providing optimal lumbar support.
The Purples are bouncier than the Casper Hybrid, which combination sleepers might appreciate.
The Purple 3 and Purple 4 are a bit more pressure-relieving than the Casper Hybrid. Twin Purple Mattress
Purple Hybrids vs Original Purple
The Original Purple mattress’s support layers are made of high-density Poly foam, and not pocketed coils.
The Original Purple is supportive and firm. This feeling might be particularly appealing to those who sleep in combination.
The Original Purple mattress, like the Purple Hybrids is extremely cooling. It could also be a good choice for people who sleep hot at night.
The Original Purple costs less than either Purple Hybrid Premier (or Purple Hybrid Premier).
