This review will focus on the Purple Hybrid Premier and Purple Hybrid Premier mattress. These beds feature the Hyper-Elastic Polymer Purple grid as well as layers of springy pockets and coils. I’ll admit, the specs certainly sound interesting, but are these beds comfortable? Try Purple Mattress In Store
To find out, I reviewed these mattresses in depth. I assessed their build quality, comfort, and support for certain types of sleepers.

Are Purple Hybrids a Good Mattress?
Purple was founded in 2015. It has become one of the most loved bedding brands thanks to its quirky advertisements and innovative products. It currently sells three kinds of hybrid mattresses: Purple Hybrid Premier 3, Purple Hybrid Premier 3 & Purple Hybrid Premier 4 There is only one difference between the beds: how much Purple’s grid layer is included in each. The Premier 3 Hybrid has 2 inches, the Premier 3 3 inches and the Premier 4 4 inches. 4 inches
The beds are all different in terms of how much pressure they provide, but the overall experience is pretty similar. You can find out more about which model is best suited to you by taking a look at the table below.

Who I recommend a Purple Hybrid for
The original Purple Hybrid is recommended for back sleepers who want a firmer feel, while the Purple Premier provides a bit more pressure relief.
Side sleepers will love the Purple Premier 4 because it provides excellent cushioning for pressure points.
People who sleep on their stomachs will appreciate the comforting feel of the original Purple Hybrid.
You will be able to sleep cool on these mattresses if you are a hot sleeper.
These beds are great for couples who want to sleep together. Try Purple Mattress In Store
Who I don’t recommend a Purple Hybrid for
Purple mattresses might not be for couples.
Since they’re so bouncy, you’re likely to feel a partner tossing and turning at night.
One of our best memory foam mattresses might be a better fit if you’re easily disturbed at night. Try Purple Mattress In Store
How Firm is the Purple Hybrid Mattresses
Let’s next look at how these bed/in-a-box hybrids actually felt. Below, I’ll go over what it felt like to sleep on all three of the Purple Hybrid models. Remember that feelings are subjective and may vary depending on how you sleep. For example, I’m 5’9″, approximately 125 lbs., and prefer sleeping on my side.
As you will see in the graphic, I found that each mattress had its own feel.
Purple Hybrids on a mattress firmness rating scale.
Purple Hybrid. I found the Purple Hybrid mattress to be very firm and gave it a 7. This mattress’s support is superior to the industry average of 6.5 for medium firmness. As the polymer layer on this mattress is thin enough to support a smooth spine, I believe stomach and back sleeping would be most benefited.
Purple Hybrid should be used by back sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 – I gave this bed an 8.6 out of 10. It felt medium-firm to me. This mattress is ideal for combination sleepers. It offered pressure relief and support, which I believe could be used in any position.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 can be used to combine sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 4, I gave this mattress a 6 on the mattress firmness scale. This soft mattress really cradled my pressure points and offered a nice amount of sinkage. The bed did not feel “stuck” to me. This mattress would suit side sleepers or side combo sleepers. I believe these people will love the pressure-relieving comfort of this mattress.
Side sleepers should like the Purple Hybrid Premier 4.
Before we close this section, I’d like to point out that all three Purple Hybrids have a buoyant, responsive feel. These beds made me feel more “on top” of them than “in” them. It was also easy to move around at night. These are, in fact, some of the most comfortable mattresses available for combination sleepers. Try Purple Mattress In Store
Are Purple Hybrids Good For Light Sleepers (Under 130 Lb)?
Light Back Sleepers – I believe the Hybrid Premier 3 is an excellent choice for light back sleepers. It should fill in their lumbar areas for pressure relief and also provides plenty of support for those who are lighter. Either of the other hybrids could also work for these sleepers.
Light Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is the way to go for these sleepers as well. It offers great pressure relief, which is important for side sleepers.
Light Stomach Sleepers – I’d recommend these folks stick to the original Purple Hybrid, which should keep their hips lifted up in line with their shoulders. Try Purple Mattress In Store
Are Purple Hybrids suitable for average-weight sleepers (130 – 250 lb), or are they not?
Average Weight Back Sleepers – The Hybrid Premier 3 is a nice fit for these sleepers, since it combines the pressure relief and support. It is ideal for people who move between sleeping positions at night.
Side sleepers who are average in weight – the Premier 4 is the best option for these sleepers. The thick layer of hyperelastic polymer on the top allows for plenty of pressure relief at the shoulders, hips, and hips.
Average Weight Stomach – The original Purple Hybrid should have enough support to keep these people’s spines straight. Try Purple Mattress In Store
Are Purple Hybrids a good mattress for heavy sleepers (over 250 lb).
Heavy Back Sleepers–I recommend these sleepers stick the Premier 3 because it is thick enough to last but not soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers: The Premier 4 is a good choice for heavy side-sleepers. These people will find the Premier 4 comfortable due to its thick grid layer that allows for lots of sinkage.
Heavy Stomach Sleepers – I wouldn’t recommend these beds for heavy stomach sleepers. They will need a firmer, more supportive mattress. One of our best mattresses for heavy people could be a better fit. Try Purple Mattress In Store
Purple Hybrids Pain Relief
Pressure relief is closely linked to pain relief. This is the measure of how well a bed can relieve tension at the hips, shoulders, and lower back. A pressure map is a great way to test this.
It sounds complicated but it’s really quite easy. All I have to do is roll the gadget out and get on board. The map does the rest. The gadget records the force of my body on the map and gives me a colored “map”. The blue areas denote low pressure while the red areas are high.
The Purple Hybrids’ pressure relief results.
Back Pain Based off these pressure map results, we believe that the original Purple Hybrid will be the best option for back pain sufferers. Blue across the board, but not around the lower back like the Premier 3 or 4 maps. This is an indication that the original Hybrid is evenly supporting my weight, which is important for avoiding back pain.
Shoulder Pain – Based on these results all three of these beds would be a great fit for anyone suffering from shoulder problems. These beds should be able to cushion the shoulders and relieve pressure.
Hip Pain the Premier 4 is the winner for hip pain sufferers. Its pressure map appears almost entirely blue, which indicates that it will be used to cradle sensitive hip joints throughout the night. Try Purple Mattress In Store
Purple Hybrid Mattress Performance for Couples
Couples like beds that do not transmit motion, are comfortable for sex, and have excellent edge support. See below for how Purple Hybrids compare in those areas.
Motion transfer refers to the amount of movement that can be detected from one side of a bed to the next. This is important for all sleepers but especially for couples who share a bedroom with a child, furry friend, or other people.
I dropped a steel ball weighing 10 lbs from heights of 4, 8 and 12 inches. This was to demonstrate motion transfer.
The motion transfer results of Purple Hybrids are impressive.
Considering how bouncy these mattresses are, I’m not that surprised to see they don’t offer great motion isolation. This shows me that you are likely to feel movement on all three of these mattresses. This could make them less suitable for couples, especially if one is easily disturbed at night. Try Purple Mattress In Store
The best mattress for sex is one that has enough bounce and motion isolation to allow you to move easily.
The Purple Hybrids seem a bit too soft to be shared if you aren’t a light sleeper.
Their mobility and lift could make them a great choice for you if your sleep is disturbed at night.
All Purple Hybrids are extremely cool.
Any of these beds is suitable for hot sleepers. I’d say they’re also some of the best cooling mattresses you can find.
This is great news especially for couples, as they tend to heat up faster than solo sleepers. Try Purple Mattress In Store
Edge support measures whether you can sleep on your side and still feel supported. Because you can spread your weight across the entire mattress, great edge support can make your mattress feel larger.
All three Purple mattresses were very supportive of the edges. The purple grid layer could compress under my weight, but I felt the foam and coils beneath it stay firm and supportive.
Personally, I thought that the Purple Premier 3 had some of the best edge support. Try Purple Mattress In Store
What is the Purple Hybrid?
Let’s now get to the bottom of what these beds are made from! I’m sure most of you want to learn more about that special Purple Grid layer. This grid is the stretchy, purple top layer that gives the Purple mattresses their unique feel.
Below you will find detailed descriptions of the grid as well the other layers. The Purple Hybrids all have the same construction. The only difference between the Purple Grids used in each bed is the number of inches.
Cover All these mattresses feature a breathable and stretchy polyester blend mattress cover.
Comfort Layer Below the cover you’ll find the hyper elastic polymer smart comfort layer. This grid is bouncy, supportive, and incredibly cooling. It is difficult to describe how this polymer material feels. However, I would compare it to a waterbed because it wraps around your body as you move. The original purple Hybrid uses 2 inches of the Grid, while the Hybrid Premier 3 uses 3 inches and the Hybrid Premier 4 uses 4 inches. The mattress will feel more pressure-relieving if there’s more grid.
A look at The Purple Grid.
The Transition Layer You’ll next find a layer made of poly foam. The transition foam acts to allow the sleeper to move down through the soft grid and onto the firmer pocketed coil below.
Support Layer This section is found in both Hybrid Premier as well as Hybrid Premier. These springs are extremely bouncy, so help to further lift the sleeper up and out of the structure. As the bed’s polymer grid and pocketsed coils create buoyancy, you will likely feel more “ontop” of them.
The Purple Hybrid is made up of layers of different materials. Try Purple Mattress In Store
Purple Hybrids Unboxing And Off-Gassing
Purple Hybrids all come in a box, but are actually packaged in bags! Purple provides complimentary white glove delivery on Hybrid Premier models. They are extremely heavy. Although the original Purple Hybrid mattress is easier to unbag, I recommend having someone to help. These mattresses are a great option because they don’t emit a strong scent like other bed-in a-box models. Any scent should fade within a few days.
Let’s now get to the final thoughts about Purple Hybrid Mattresses. It’s time for you to decide if these mattresses are right for your needs. While I cannot make this decision for you personally, I can give you some final thoughts that will help you to make the right choice.
My favorite things about the Purple Hybrid mattresses
The Purple Hybrids are so cool! They don’t trap too much heat, so most people who are hot should feel comfortable on them. I like the responsiveness of Purple Hybrid beds. These beds are great for couples who want to change their positions.
The Purple Grid is a great feeling. It’s great for helping with your spine alignment. However, it is also extremely pressure relieving. You will find it to be extremely comfortable, especially if you go for the thicker models. The Purple is a great choice if you want to try a different feel. Try Purple Mattress In Store
My Purple Hybrid mattress complaints
Purple mattresses may not offer the best motion isolation. While this isn’t a dealbreaker, if you’re really easily disturbed at night you might want to opt for a more traditional memory foam mattress, which will do a better job absorbing motion.
I do also want to note that a few customers have complained about the original Purple mattress sagging and forming indentations. Purple Hybrids will last longer due to the layers of innerspring coils. But heavier people may want to choose a different mattress. Place any Purple bed you purchase on a solid platform. Purple Hybrids Vs.
Let’s have a look at Purple Hybrid Premier and Purple Hybrid Premier mattresses. Then let’s compare their performance to other mattress models that you can find online.
Purple Hybrids vs Leesa Hybrid
The Leesa Hybrids are similar to the Purple Hybrids. It combines foam layers, pocketed coils and support for one-two pressure relief.
It has a more traditional feel than the Purple beds. This could be a good option for people who don’t like Purple’s unique feel.
I recommend the Leesa Hybrid to back sleepers and couples.
Purple Hybrids vs Casper Hybrid
Casper’s zoned support is unlike the Purples. It is firmer at the hips and softer at the shoulders, providing optimal lumbar support.
Purples can be more bouncy than the Casper Hybrids, which may appeal to combination sleepers.
The Purple 3 & Purple 4 relieve a little less pressure than the Casper Hybrid. Try Purple Mattress In Store
Purple Hybrids as compared to Original Purple
Support layers for the Original Purple mattress are made from high-density foam and not pocketed coils.
The Original Purple is supportive, bouncy, and firm. Combination sleepers may particularly enjoy this feeling.
The Original Purple Mattress is very cool, just like the Purple Hybrids.
The Original Purple costs less than either Purple Hybrid Premier (or Purple Hybrid Premier).
