In this review we will look at the Purple Hybrid Premier as well as the Purple Hybrid Premier. These beds include the company’s famous Hyper-Elastic Polymer Purple grid and springy layers of pocketsed coils. I’ll admit, the specs certainly sound interesting, but are these beds comfortable? To find out, I reviewed these mattresses in depth. I assessed their build quality, comfort, and support for certain types of sleepers.

Is a Purple Hybrid a Good Mattress for You?
Purple was established in 2015 and has grown to be one of the most well-known bedding brands. This is due to its cheeky advertising and innovative products. It sells three different hybrid mattresses, the Purple Hybrid, the Purple Hybrid Premier 3, and Purple Hybrid Premier 4. The only thing that differs between these beds are the amounts of Purple’s unique grid layer. The Premier 3 and Premier 4 use 2 inches each, while the Premier 3 and Premier 3 each use 3 inches. 4 inches
Although the pressure relief offered by these beds is different, they feel almost identical. Below is a list of who each model may be best suited for.

Who I recommend a Purple Hybrid for
The original Purple Hybrid is recommended for back sleepers who want a firmer feel, while the Purple Premier provides a bit more pressure relief.
Side sleepers will love the Purple Premier 4 because it provides excellent cushioning for pressure points.
People who sleep on their stomachs will appreciate the comforting feel of the original Purple Hybrid.
These mattresses should be appreciated by hot sleepers.
These beds should be enjoyed by combination sleepers! Purple Rv Mattress
Who I don’t recommend a Purple Hybrid for
Purple mattresses are not for everyone.
Their buoyancy makes it easy to imagine your partner tossing about at night.
If you are easily disturbed at night, one of our memory foam mattresses may be better suited. Purple Rv Mattress
How Firm Are Purple Hybrid Mattresses
Let’s next look at how these bed/in-a-box hybrids actually felt. Below I’ll share what it was like to lie down on any of the Purple Hybrid mattresses. Keep in mind that feel is subjective, and can change depending on your body type and preferred sleep position. For reference, I’m 5’9″, about 125 lbs, and prefer to sleep on my side.
As you can see, all three of my mattresses felt very different to me.
Purple Hybrids are ranked on the mattress firmness scale.
Purple Hybrid – I found this mattress to have a very firm feel, so I gave it 7/10 on the mattress firmness rating. This mattress will be more supportive than the industry standard of 6.5, which is for medium firmness. This mattress is best for stomach and back sleepers, since the polymer layer of the polymer is thin enough that it can support a straight spine from hips to shoulders.
Back sleepers should enjoy the feel of the Purple Hybrid.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3. I gave this bed a rating of 6.5/10 on the firmness scale. I felt that it was medium-firm. Combination sleepers, who frequently shift between positions throughout the night, and those with lower back pain or seeking a mattress to support sciatica, will love this bed. It provides pressure relief and support which can be adjusted to suit any sleeping position.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 may feel good for combination sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 4, I gave this mattress a 6 on the mattress firmness scale. This soft mattress really supported my pressure points and allowed for a lot of sinkage. But I didn’t feel “stuckin” the mattress. This mattress is recommended for side sleepers as well as side and combination sleepers. I believe these people will love the pressure-relieving comfort of this mattress.
Side sleepers may like the Purple Hybrid Premier 4
Before we wrap up, I would like to highlight the responsiveness and bounce of all three Purple Hybrids. These beds felt like I was more “on top of” the bed than “in it”. It was very easy to shift positions at night. These are my top picks for combination sleepers. Purple Rv Mattress
Are Purple Hybrids Good for Light Sleepers (under 130lb)?
Light Back Sleepers — The Hybrid Premier 3 I think is a great choice for light back-sleepers. It fills in their lumbar regions to provide good pressure relief. And it is supportive enough for those with lighter bodies. You could also try one of the other hybrids.
Light Side Sleepers-The Premier 4 is the ideal choice for these types of sleepers. Side sleepers will love the fact that it provides pressure relief.
Light Stomach Sleepers: I recommend that these people stick with the original Purple Hybrid. This should ensure their hips are aligned with their shoulders. Purple Rv Mattress
Are Purple Hybrids suitable for average-weight sleepers (130 – 250 lb), or are they not?
Average Weight Back Sleepers-The Hybrid Premier 3 is a great choice for these sleepers because it offers both pressure relief as well as support. It is ideal for people who move between sleeping positions at night.
Side sleepers of average weight – The Premier 4 is the best choice for these sleepers. The thick layer of hyperelastic polymer on the top allows for plenty of pressure relief at the shoulders, hips, and hips.
Average Weight Stomach Sleepers — The original Purple Hybrid should offer enough support to keep these people’s spines in a straight line. Purple Rv Mattress
Are Purple Hybrids a good mattress for heavy sleepers (over 250 lb).
Heavy Back Sleepers – I would recommend this sleeper stick to the Premier 3 which is thick enough that it will last, but doesn’t feel too soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers-The Premier 4 is a great choice for those who are heavy sleepers. Its thick grid layer provides plenty of space for sinkage, and its soft feel should be comfortable for these folks.
Heavy Stomach / Back Sleepers – I don’t recommend these mattresses to anyone with a heavy stomach. These people need to have optimal support and a firmer mattress. A better choice for heavy people is one of our top mattresses. Purple Rv Mattress
Purple Hybrids Pain Relief Performance
Pain relief is closely tied to pressure relief, which is a measure of how well a bed is able to alleviate tension at the shoulders, hips, and lower back. I use a pressure map to check for this.
Although it sounds complicated, the process is really simple. You just need to roll the device and then get onboard. As I move around the bed, the gadget records the force my body’s exerting on the map, and makes a colored “map” of the pressure. Blue signifies low pressure areas, and red the high pressure areas.
Pressure relief is a result of the Purple Hybrids.
Back Pain Based purely on these pressure maps, the original Purple Hybrid was found to be the best mattress for those with back problems. The map is blue across the board, but doesn’t gap around the lower back the way the Premier 3 and 4 maps do. This shows me that the original Hybrid is keeping me evenly supported in my weight which is crucial for avoiding back discomfort.
Shoulder Pain According to these results, these beds are excellent choices for people suffering from shoulder pain. To alleviate pressure, they should do a great job of cushioning the shoulder region.
Hip Pain The Premier 4 is the clear winner for folks with hip pain. Its pressure map appears almost entirely blue, which indicates that it will be used to cradle sensitive hip joints throughout the night. Purple Rv Mattress
Purple Hybrid Mattress Performance for Couples
Couples will often choose beds that have good edge support, isolate motion transfer and are responsive enough to sex. Continue reading to learn how Purple Hybrids stack-up in those areas.
Motion transfer is when there is motion between the two sides of a bed. This is important for all sleepers but especially for couples who share a bedroom with a child, furry friend, or other people.
I dropped a 10-lb steel ball at heights of 4″, 8″ and 12 inches to illustrate motion transfer. The disturbance it caused was measured: the larger the lines, the greater the disturbance.
Motion transfer is a result of the Purple Hybrids.
Considering how bouncy these mattresses are, I’m not that surprised to see they don’t offer great motion isolation. This tells me that there will be movement on all three mattresses. It could also mean that they might not be the best choice for couples, particularly if one of them is frequently disturbed at night. Purple Rv Mattress
A good mattress for sex should have enough bounce and motion isolation to be comfortable to move about on.
Personally, I think the Purple Hybrids are a bit too bouncy to share if you’re a light sleeper.
However, if you’re not disturbed at night they can be good options for sex due to their lift-and mobility.
The Purple Hybrids all have incredible cooling properties.
Hot sleepers should be happy on any of these beds. They are also among the most comfortable and cooling you can buy.
This is great news to couples who overheat more quickly than those who sleep alone. Purple Rv Mattress
Edge support is a measure of whether or not you’ll be able to sleep all the way on the side of your bed and still feel supported. Great edge support can make your mattress feel a bit bigger, since you can spread out across its entire surface.
I thought all three Purple mattresses had good edge support. I could feel the Purple grid layer shrink under my body weight, but the foam below and coils were firm and supportive.
I personally thought that the Purple Premier 3 provided the best edge support. Purple Rv Mattress
What are Purple Hybrids Made Of?
Let’s now get to the bottom of what these beds are made from! I know most people want to know more information about the Purple Grid layer. This grid is the stretchy layer of purple that gives Purple mattresses their unique feeling.
Below is a detailed description of the grid and all other layers of the mattress. The Purple Hybrids all have the same construction. The only difference between the Purple Grids used in each bed is the number of inches.
Cover These mattresses come with a polyester blend mattress cover that is breathable and flexible.
Comfort Layer Directly below the cover is where you’ll encounter the hyper-elastic polymer smart comfort grid. This grid is very cooling and supportive. It’s hard to describe the feeling of this polymer material. I would liken it to an incredibly soft water bed. It cradles your body while you move. The original purple Hybrid uses 2 inches of the Grid, while the Hybrid Premier 3 uses 3 inches and the Hybrid Premier 4 uses 4 inches. The mattress will feel more pressure-relieving if there’s more grid.
A look at the Purple Grid.
Transition Layer Next you’ll find a layer poly foam. The transition foam acts to allow the sleeper to move down through the soft grid and onto the firmer pocketed coil below.
Support Layer: The bulk of Hybrid Premier or Hybrid Premier mattresses consists of a section made of pocketed coils. These springs are extremely bouncy, so help to further lift the sleeper up and out of the structure. You will feel more “on top” of these beds because the pocketsed coils and polymer grid provide a lot buoyancy.
The Purple Hybrid is made up of layers of different materials. Purple Rv Mattress
Purple Hybrids Unboxing & Off-Gassing
Purple Hybrids are all-bed-in-a box mattresses. However, they come in bags rather than boxes. Purple includes complimentary white glove delivery when you order the Hybrid Premier models. Although the original Purple Hybrid mattress is easier to unbag, I recommend having someone to help. This mattress is not as strong in off-gassing as other bed-ina-box mattresses. Any scent should vanish within a few hours.
Let me conclude my review on Purple Hybrid Mattresses. Now, you can decide if one or more of these mattresses are the right fit for you. While I cannot make this decision for you personally, I can give you some final thoughts that will help you to make the right choice.
Purple Hybrid is one of my favorite mattresses
The Purple Hybrids are so cool! They don’t trap too much heat, so most people who are hot should feel comfortable on them. I like the responsiveness of Purple Hybrid beds. Combination sleepers will have no trouble changing their positions on these beds.
Finally, the Purple Grid feels great. It is great at helping you to achieve healthy spinal alignment and it also provides incredible pressure relief. You will find it to be extremely comfortable, especially if you go for the thicker models. The Purple is a great choice if you want to try a different feel. Purple Rv Mattress
My Purple Hybrid Mattress complaints
Purple mattresses may not offer the best motion isolation. Even though this isn’t an issue, if you are sensitive to motion, a traditional memory mattress might be a better choice.
I also wanted to mention that some customers complained about the Purple mattress’s tendency to sag and form indentations. Purple Hybrids will last longer due to the layers of innerspring coils. But heavier people may want to choose a different mattress. To increase the life expectancy of your Purple bed, make sure it is placed on a stable platform and not a box spring. Purple Rv Mattress

Purple Hybrid Vs.
Let’s take a deeper look at the Purple Hybrid Premier and Purple Hybrid Premier mattresses. Now let’s compare them to other models on the internet.
Purple Hybrids vs Leesa Hybrid
The Leesa Hybrids combine foam layers with pocketed coils to give you a double punch of support and pressure relief, just like the Purple Hybrids.
Although it does have a traditional feel, it’s still more comfortable than any Purple beds. It could also work well for people who don’t want Purple’s unique feel.
The Leesa Hybrid is a good choice for couples and back sleepers.
Purple Hybrids vs Casper Hybrid
The Casper is different from the Purples. It has zoned support. This means it is firmer in the hips but softer at the shoulders. This provides optimal lumbar support.
Purples are more bouncier than Casper Hybrids, which combination sleepers may appreciate.
The Purple 3 or Purple 4 can be a bit more effective than the Casper Hybrid. Purple Rv Mattress
Purple Hybrids and Original Purple
The Original Purple mattress’s support layers are made of high-density Poly foam, and not pocketed coils.
The Original Purple is supportive, firm, and buoyant. This feeling might be particularly appealing to those who sleep in combination.
Like the Purple Hybrids, the Original Purple mattress is incredibly cooling, so it could be a good fit for folks who overheat at night.
The Original Purple is less expensive than either the Purple Hybrid or Purple Hybrid Premier.
