This review will focus on the Purple Hybrid Premier and Purple Hybrid Premier mattress. These beds feature the company’s iconic Hyper-Elastic Polymer Purple grid plus springy layers of pocketed coils. These beds sound intriguing, but I am not sure if they are comfortable. Purple Mattress Technology
These mattresses were reviewed in detail by me. I assessed how they felt, their construction, and whether they are supportive of certain types of sleepers.

Is a Purple Hybrid a Good Mattress for You?
Purple was founded in 2015. It has become one of the most loved bedding brands thanks to its quirky advertisements and innovative products. It currently sells three kinds of hybrid mattresses: Purple Hybrid Premier 3, Purple Hybrid Premier 3 & Purple Hybrid Premier 4 The only thing that differs between these beds are the amounts of Purple’s unique grid layer. The Premier 3 uses 3 inches, the Premier 3 uses 3 inches, and the Premier 4 uses 4 inches. 4 inches.
These beds provide different levels of pressure relief but feel very similar. You can find out more about which model is best suited to you by taking a look at the table below.

Who I recommend a Purple Hybrid for
Back sleepers who like a firmer feel should like the original Purple Hybrid, and those who like a bit more pressure relief might prefer the Purple Premier 3.
The Purple Premier 4 is a great option for side sleepers, as it provides a lot of cushioning around pressure points.
Stomach sleepers will probably enjoy the supportive feeling of the original Purple Hybrid.
You will be able to sleep cool on these mattresses if you are a hot sleeper.
Combination sleepers should enjoy the bouncy feel of these beds! Purple Mattress Technology
Who I don’t recommend a Purple Hybrid for
Purple mattresses might not be for couples.
You’ll likely feel a partner turning and tossing in the night because they’re so happy.
If you’re trouble sleeping at night, a memory foam mattress might be a better fit. Purple Mattress Technology
What is the Firmness of Purple Hybrid Mattresses
Next, let us get into how these bed in a box hybrids feel. Below is a detailed account of how I felt when I slept on the three Purple Hybrid models. It is important to remember that feeling can be subjective and depend on your body type. Referring to your reference, I am 5’9″, 125 lbs and prefer to sleep on the side.
As you can see in the graphic below, I actually thought all three mattresses had pretty distinct feels, so I’ll section them off below so you can get my full thoughts on each one.
The Purple Hybrids on the mattress firmness scale.
Purple Hybrid: I found this mattress to be quite firm, so gave it a 7 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. This mattress will be more supportive than the industry standard of 6.5, which is for medium firmness. Because the polymer layer is thin enough for a consistent spinal line, stomach and back sleepers will benefit most.
Purple Hybrid should be used by back sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3: I gave this bed a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, and felt it had a true medium-firm feel. Combination sleepers who shift between different positions during the night as well as those with sciatica or lower back pain would benefit from this bed. It offered pressure relief and support, which I believe could be used in any position.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 could be comfortable for combination sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 4: I scored this bed as a 6 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. The soft mattress was very supportive and cradled all my pressure points. I did not feel “stuck-in”, however. This mattress would suit side sleepers or side combo sleepers. I think these folks will really appreciate the pressure-relieving feel of this mattress.
Side sleepers may like the Purple Hybrid Premier 4
Before we wrap up, I would like to highlight the responsiveness and bounce of all three Purple Hybrids. These beds made me feel more “on top” of them than “in” them. It was also easy to move around at night. These are my top picks for combination sleepers. Purple Mattress Technology
Are Purple Hybrids Good for Light Sleepers (under 130lb)?
Light Back Sleepers – I believe the Hybrid Premier 3 is an excellent choice for light back sleepers. It should fill in their lumbar areas for pressure relief and also provides plenty of support for those who are lighter. Either of the other hybrids could also work for these sleepers.
The Premier 4 is a great option for light side sleepers. It provides great pressure relief which is essential for side sleepers.
Light Stomach Sleepers – I’d recommend these folks stick to the original Purple Hybrid, which should keep their hips lifted up in line with their shoulders. Purple Mattress Technology
Are Purple Hybrids good mattresses for average weight sleepers (130-250 lb)
Average Weight Back Sleepers: The Hybrid Premier 3 is great for those who are average weight. It combines pressure relief and support. If you need to move around at night, it’s a good option.
Side sleepers with average weights – The Premier 4 mattress is the best for them. Its top layer of hyperelasticity polymer is thick enough to allow for pressure relief at hips and shoulders.
Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – The original Purple Hybrid should be supportive enough to keep these folks’ spines in a neutral straight line. Purple Mattress Technology
Are the Purple Hybrids Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 lb)?
Heavy Back Sleepers – I would recommend this sleeper stick to the Premier 3 which is thick enough that it will last, but doesn’t feel too soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers-The Premier 4 is a great choice for those who are heavy sleepers. These people will find the Premier 4 comfortable due to its thick grid layer that allows for lots of sinkage.
Heavy Stomach sleepers – These beds are not recommended for heavy stomach sleepers. They require a firmer bed to provide the best support. The best mattress for heavy people might be one of our best. Purple Mattress Technology
Purple Hybrids Pain Relief Performance
Pain relief is closely tied to pressure relief, which is a measure of how well a bed is able to alleviate tension at the shoulders, hips, and lower back. To check this, I use a Pressure Map.
Although it sounds complicated, the process is really simple. You just need to roll the device and then get onboard. The gadget records the force of my body on the map and gives me a colored “map”. Blue signifies low pressure areas, and red the high pressure areas.
Pressure relief is a result of the Purple Hybrids.
Back Pain Based purely on these pressure maps, the original Purple Hybrid was found to be the best mattress for those with back problems. The map is blue across the board, but doesn’t gap around the lower back the way the Premier 3 and 4 maps do. This shows me that the original Hybrid is keeping me evenly supported in my weight which is crucial for avoiding back discomfort.
Shoulder pain Based on these findings, all three of the beds are great options for shoulder pain sufferers! To relieve pressure, they should cushion the shoulder area.
Hip Pain The Premier 4 is the clear winner if you suffer from hip pain. The pressure map of the Premier 4 is almost entirely blue, meaning that sensitive hip joints can be cradled throughout. Purple Mattress Technology
Purple Hybrid Mattress Performances For Couples
Couples love beds that can isolate motion transfer, allow for sex while also being responsive enough for sex. You can read on to see how Purple Hybrids stack in these areas.
Motion transfer describes the movement from one side or the other of the bed. This is an important aspect for everyone, but it’s especially important for couples and people who share a bed with their child or furry friend.
I dropped a 10-lb steel ball at heights of 4″, 8″ and 12 inches to illustrate motion transfer. The disturbance it caused was measured: the larger the lines, the greater the disturbance.
The Purple Hybrids’ motion transfer results.
Considering how bouncy these mattresses are, I’m not that surprised to see they don’t offer great motion isolation. This shows me that you are likely to feel movement on all three of these mattresses. This could make them less suitable for couples, especially if one is easily disturbed at night. Purple Mattress Technology
The best mattress to use for sex has enough bounce and motion control to be easy to move on.
Personally, I think the Purple Hybrids are a bit too bouncy to share if you’re a light sleeper.
But if you’re not easily disturbed at night, they could be nice options for sex thanks to their lift and mobility.
All Purple Hybrids are extremely cool.
All of these beds will be comfortable for hot sleepers. I’d say they’re also some of the best cooling mattresses you can find.
This is good news for couples who tend to heat up much faster than single sleepers. Purple Mattress Technology
Edge support measures whether you can sleep on your side and still feel supported. Because you can spread your weight across the entire mattress, great edge support can make your mattress feel larger.
All three Purple mattresses were very supportive of the edges. Although I could feel the purple grid layer compressing under my weight the foam and coils underneath remained firm and supportive.
Personally, I thought that the Purple Premier 3 had some of the best edge support. Purple Mattress Technology
What are the Purple Hybrids Made of?
Let’s next look at what these beds are made out of. I know most people want to know more information about the Purple Grid layer. This grid is the stretchy layer of purple that gives Purple mattresses their unique feeling.
Below is a detailed description of the grid and all other layers of the mattress. All Purple Hybrids are made the same. Only the length of each Purple Grid used by each bed is different.
Cover These mattresses come with a polyester blend mattress cover that is breathable and flexible.
Comfort Layer Directly below the cover is where you’ll encounter the hyper-elastic polymer smart comfort grid. This grid is very cooling and supportive. Although it is difficult to describe the feel of this polymer material, it can be compared to a waterbed in that it supports your body and moves with you. The Hybrid Premier 3 uses 3 inches of Grid, the Hybrid Premier 4 uses 4 inches. The grid is more dense, so the mattress feels more pressure-relieving.
A look at the Purple Grid.
Next, you will find a layer with poly foam. The transition foam acts to allow the sleeper to move down through the soft grid and onto the firmer pocketed coil below.
Support Layer is the bulk of Hybrid Premier and Hybrid Premier mattress. It is made up of a section with pocketed coils. These springs are extremely bouncy, so help to further lift the sleeper up and out of the structure. You will feel more “on top” of these beds because the pocketsed coils and polymer grid provide a lot buoyancy.

Purple Hybrids Unboxing, Off-Gassing
Purple Hybrids come in bags and are not boxed mattresses. Purple offers complimentary white glove delivery for Hybrid Premier models. These beds are heavy. While the original Purple Hybrid is not as difficult to lift, it’s still worth having someone nearby to help you bag it. This mattress is not as strong in off-gassing as other bed-ina-box mattresses. Any scent should disappear in a matter of hours.
Let’s get to the bottom of this review. Now, you can decide if one or more of these mattresses are the right fit for you. Although I cannot make that decision for your, I can offer some suggestions to help you.
Purple Hybrid mattress are my favorite.
I really love how cooling all of the Purple Hybrids are. They don’t trap body heat and should therefore be comfortable for most hot sleepers. I also love how responsive the Purple Hybrid model are. Combination sleepers will have no trouble changing their positions on these beds.
Finally, I really like the feel of the Purple Grid. It does a great job of helping you achieve a healthy spinal alignment, but still feels incredible pressure relieving. The thicker models are the best, especially when they are heavier. The Purple is an excellent choice for those who want to experience a more distinctive feel. Purple Mattress Technology
My Purple Hybrid mattress complaints
Purple mattresses may not offer the best motion isolation. Although this isn’t a major issue, it can make your night more difficult.
I also wanted to mention that some customers complained about the Purple mattress’s tendency to sag and form indentations. The Purple Hybrids are more durable due to the innerspring coil layers. However, heavier people might prefer a different mattress. To increase the life expectancy of your Purple bed, make sure it is placed on a stable platform and not a box spring. Purple Hybrids Vs.
Let’s take an in-depth look at Purple Hybrid Premier mattress and Purple Hybrid Premier mattress.
Purple Hybrids vs Leesa Hybrid
Like the Purple Hybrids, the Leesa Hybrid combines foam layers with pocketed coils for a one-two punch of pressure relief and support.
However, it has more of a traditional feel than any of the Purple beds, so could work for folks who aren’t sold on Purple’s unique feel.
The Leesa Hybrid is a good choice for couples and back sleepers.
Purple Hybrids vs Casper Hybrid
Casper, unlike the Purples, has zoned support. This means that it’s firmer around the hips and more comfortable at the shoulders.
Purples are more lively than the Casper Hybrids which might appeal to combination sleepers.
The Purple 3 and Purple 4 have a little more pressure relief than the Casper Hybrid. Purple Mattress Technology
Purple Hybrids vs Original Purple
Support layers for the Original Purple mattress are made from high-density foam and not pocketed coils.
The Original Purple is supportive. It’s bouncy and firm. Combination sleepers might particularly like this feel.
The Original Purple mattress, like the Purple Hybrids is extremely cooling. It could also be a good choice for people who sleep hot at night.
The Original Purple is much cheaper than either Purple Hybrid Premier and Purple Hybrid Premier.
