We will be reviewing the Purple Hybrid Premier and Purple Hybrid Premier mattresses. These beds feature the company’s iconic Hyper-Elastic Polymer Purple grid plus springy layers of pocketed coils. The specs sound fascinating, but is this bed comfortable? Purple Mattress Sizes
To find out, these mattresses received a thorough review. I evaluated how they were constructed, how they feel and how they support specific sleepers.

Are Purple Hybrids Good for You?
Purple was founded in 2015 and has since grown into one of the most popular bedding brands on the market, thanks to a combination of cheeky advertisements and innovative products. It sells three varieties of hybrid mattresses: the Purple Hybrid Premier 3 or Purple Hybrid Premier 4 and the Purple Hybrid Premier 3. The only thing that differs between these beds are the amounts of Purple’s unique grid layer. The Premier 3 Hybrid uses 3 inches, the Premier 3 uses 3 inches, and the Premier 4 uses 4 inches. 4 inches
Although they offer different pressure relief, the beds feel fairly similar. Below is a list of who each model may be best suited for.

Who I recommend a Purple Hybrid for
For back sleepers who prefer a firmer feeling, the Purple Hybrid is the best choice. Those who need a little more pressure relief may choose the Purple Premier.
Side sleepers may like the Purple Premier 4, as it offers great cushioning around sensitive pressure points.
Stomach sleepers will likely enjoy the supportive feel of the original Purple Hybrid.
Hot sleepers should appreciate how cooling each of these mattresses are.
Combination sleepers will love the bounce of these beds! Purple Mattress Sizes
Who I don’t recommend a Purple Hybrid for
Purple mattresses may not be for everyone.
You’ll likely feel a partner turning and tossing in the night because they’re so happy.
One of our top memory foam mattresses might be a better option if you have trouble falling asleep at night. Purple Mattress Sizes
How Firm are Purple Hybrid mattresses?
Let’s now get into the actual feeling of these bed-in a-box hybrids. Below, I’ll describe what it was like to sleep in each of the Purple Hybrid hybrid models. You should keep in mind that the feeling of sleep is subjective and can vary depending on your preferences and body type. For reference, I’m 5’9″, about 125 lbs, and prefer to sleep on my side.
As you can see, all three of my mattresses felt very different to me.
Purple Hybrids on a mattress firmness rating scale.
Purple Hybrid. I found the Purple Hybrid mattress to be very firm and gave it a 7. This mattress has a firmer feel than the industry norm of 6.5 for medium-firmness. This mattress is best for stomach and back sleepers, since the polymer layer of the polymer is thin enough that it can support a straight spine from hips to shoulders.
Purple Hybrid is recommended for back sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier3: I gave this mattress a 6.5 on the firmness scale and it felt true to medium-firm. Combination sleepers who shift between different positions during the night as well as those with sciatica or lower back pain would benefit from this bed. It provided pressure relief and support in a way that could be comfortable in all sleeping positions.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 could feel great for couples who are looking to sleep together.
Purple Hybrid Premier 4, I gave this mattress a 6 on the mattress firmness scale. This soft mattress truly supported my pressure points, and gave me a great amount of sinkage. But I didn’t feel “stuckin” the mattress. Side sleepers and side-combined sleepers would love this mattress. This mattress is great for relieving pressure.
Side sleepers will enjoy the Purple Hybrid Premier 4
Before we close this section, I’d like to point out that all three Purple Hybrids have a buoyant, responsive feel. These beds felt more like “on top” than “in”, and it was easy to switch positions during the night. These are the best combination mattresses on the market. Purple Mattress Sizes
Are Purple Hybrids Good For Light Sleepers (Under 130 Lb)?
Light Back Sleepers — The Hybrid Premier 3 I think is a great choice for light back-sleepers. It fills in their lumbar regions to provide good pressure relief. And it is supportive enough for those with lighter bodies. They could also use any of the other hybrids.
For light side sleepers, the Premier 4 is the best choice. Side sleepers will appreciate the pressure relief it provides.
Light Stomach Sleepers: I recommend that these people stick with the original Purple Hybrid. This should ensure their hips are aligned with their shoulders. Purple Mattress Sizes
Are Purple Hybrids Good for Average Weight Sleepers (130 -250 lb).
Average Weight Back Sleepers – The Hybrid Premier 3 is an excellent choice for them, as it provides both pressure relief and support. If you need to move around at night, it’s a good option.
Side sleepers of average weight – The Premier 4 is the best choice for these sleepers. The thick layer of hyperelastic polymer on the top allows for plenty of pressure relief at the shoulders, hips, and hips.
Average Weight Stomach – The original Purple Hybrid should have enough support to keep these people’s spines straight. Purple Mattress Sizes
Are the Purple Hybrids Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 lb)?
Heavy Back Sleepers – I’d recommend these sleepers stick to the Premier 3, which is thick enough to be durable, but won’t feel overly soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is a nice choice for heavy side sleepers. This mattress’ thick grid provides ample space for sinkage. Its soft feel should also be suitable for those with sensitive skin.
Heavy Stomach Sleepers: I would not recommend these beds to heavy stomachs sleepers. They need a firmer mattress to give them optimal support. One of our best mattresses for heavy people could be a better fit. Purple Mattress Sizes
Purple Hybrids Pain Relief Performance
Pain relief is closely tied to pressure relief, which is a measure of how well a bed is able to alleviate tension at the shoulders, hips, and lower back. I use a pressure map to check for this.
It sounds complicated but it’s really quite easy. All I have to do is roll the gadget out and get on board. The map does the rest. The gadget records the force of my body on the map and gives me a colored “map”. Blue signifies low pressure areas, and red the high pressure areas.
Pressure relief is a result of the Purple Hybrids.
Back Pain Based on these results, the original Purple Hybrid is the best choice for people with back pain. The map is uniformly blue, but it doesn’t show any gaps around the lower back as the Premier 3 and 4 maps. This indicates that the original Hybrid is maintaining my weight evenly supported. This is important in order to avoid back pain.
Shoulder pain Based on these findings, all three of the beds are great options for shoulder pain sufferers! These beds should be able to cushion the shoulders and relieve pressure.
Hip Pain The Premier 4 is the clear winner if you suffer from hip pain. Its pressure map appears almost entirely blue, which indicates that it will be used to cradle sensitive hip joints throughout the night. Purple Mattress Sizes
Purple Hybrid Mattress Performance for Couples
Couples prefer beds that are quiet, responsive enough to sex and offer good edge support. You can read on to see how Purple Hybrids stack in these areas.
Motion transfer refers the amount that is detectable in the bed from one side to the other. This is important for all sleepers but especially for couples who share a bedroom with a child, furry friend, or other people.
To demonstrate motion transfer, I dropped an 10 lb steel ball, from three heights: 4 inches, 8 inch, and 12 inches. I measured the disturbance it caused. The bigger the lines, then, the more severe the disturbance.
The Purple Hybrids motion transfer results.
Given the bounce of these mattresses, it is not surprising to find that they do not offer motion isolation. This shows me that you are likely to feel movement on all three of these mattresses. This could make them less suitable for couples, especially if one is easily disturbed at night. Purple Mattress Sizes
Good motion isolation and enough bounce are two of the best qualities in a mattress for sex.
Personal opinion: I find the Purple Hybrids a bit too lively to share if one is a light sleeper.
If you don’t mind being disturbed at night, these guys could be great options for sex because of their mobility and lift.
All Purple Hybrids are extremely cool.
Hot sleepers should be happy on any of these beds. They are also among the most comfortable and cooling you can buy.
This is great news especially for couples, as they tend to heat up faster than solo sleepers. Purple Mattress Sizes
Edge support is the ability to comfortably sleep on one side of the bed, while still feeling supported. A mattress with great edge support will feel larger because you can spread it across its entire surface.
I thought all three Purple mattresses had good edge support. I could feel the Purple grid layer begin to compress under my weight but the foam and coils below were firm and supportive.
Personally, I thought that the Purple Premier 3 had some of the best edge support. Purple Mattress Sizes
What is the Purple Hybrid?
Let’s next look at what these beds are made out of. Most of you will want to know more about the Purple Grid layer. This is the stretchy purple top layer that gives Purple mattresses their unique feel.
Below you will find detailed descriptions of the grid as well the other layers. As a reminder, all of the Purple Hybrids are constructed the same way. The only difference is how many inches of the Purple Grid each bed uses.
Cover All these mattresses come with a waterproof and stretchy polyester-blend mattress cover.
Comfort Layer Located directly below the cover, you will find the hyper-elastic smart comfort grid made of polymer smart. This grid is buoyant, supportive, yet incredibly cooling. Although it is difficult to describe the feel of this polymer material, it can be compared to a waterbed in that it supports your body and moves with you. The Hybrid Premier 3 uses 3 inches of Grid, the Hybrid Premier 4 uses 4 inches. The more grid there is, the more pressure-relieving the mattress feels.
The Purple Grid.
Transition Layer Next you’ll find a layer poly foam. This transition foam allows the sleeper to slide through the soft top grid onto the more solid pocketed coil system.
Support Layer: The bulk of Hybrid Premier or Hybrid Premier mattresses consists of a section made of pocketed coils. These springs, which are very buoyant, help to lift the sleeper higher and further out of the structure. These beds will make you feel “on top”, as the pocketsed coils and polymer grid create a lot of buoyancy.

Unboxing and Off Gassing Purple Hybrids
Purple Hybrids can be described as all-bed-in a-box mattresses but come in bags. Purple includes complimentary white glove delivery when you order the Hybrid Premier models. Although the original Purple Hybrid is a little easier to lift than the Premier models, I would recommend having a friend help you unbag it. These mattresses are a great option because they don’t emit a strong scent like other bed-in a-box models. Any scent should disappear in a matter of hours.
Let me conclude my review on Purple Hybrid Mattresses. After reviewing every detail, it’s time now to make the decision about which mattress is best for you. Although I cannot make that decision for your, I can offer some suggestions to help you.
Purple Hybrid mattresses are one of my favourite things.
I am a huge fan of the Purple Hybrids’ cooling properties. They don’t trap much body heat at all, so I think most hot sleepers out there should be very happy on these beds! I love the responsiveness of Purple Hybrids. Combination sleepers will have no trouble changing their positions on these beds.
The Purple Grid’s feel is great. It helps you achieve a healthy spine alignment while still feeling incredible in pressure relieving. It is especially effective when you opt for one of the thicker models. If you are looking for a unique look, the Purple may be right for you. Purple Mattress Sizes
My Purple Hybrid mattress complaints
Purple mattresses don’t have the best movement isolation. Even though this isn’t an issue, if you are sensitive to motion, a traditional memory mattress might be a better choice.
I do also want to note that a few customers have complained about the original Purple mattress sagging and forming indentations. Purple Hybrids have innerspring coil layers that make them more durable. If this is a problem, heavy people might choose to switch to a different model. You should place any Purple bed on a sturdy platform. Purple Mattress Sizes

What is the difference between Purple Hybrid Premier and Original Purple Hybrid mattresses
The only difference is how much Purple Grid each mattress is made of.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 is 2-inch thick, Purple Hybrid Premier 3 is 3-inch, and Purple Hybrid Premier 4 is 4-inch.
Where are Purple mattresses manufactured?
Purple mattresses are all made in the USA.
Can I use the Purple Hybrid Mattresses with a Box Spring?
Purple doesn’t recommend that you use a box spring in conjunction with any of your beds.
They recommend using a solid base, a slatted bed frame or an adjustable base.
Purple Hybrid Vs.
After taking a deep-dive look at the Purple Hybrid and Purple Hybrid Premier mattresses, let’s see how they compare to other mattress models you’ll find on the online scene.
Purple Hybrids vs Leesa Hybrid
The Leesa Hybrids combine foam layers with pocketed coils to give you a double punch of support and pressure relief, just like the Purple Hybrids.
But it is more traditional than any Purple bed, so it could work for those who aren’t sold on Purple’s unique feel.
I would recommend the Leesa Hybrid for couples and back sleepers.
Purple Hybrids vs Casper Hybrid
The Casper is different from the Purples. It has zoned support. This means it is firmer in the hips but softer at the shoulders. This provides optimal lumbar support.
Purples are more bouncier than Casper Hybrids, which combination sleepers may appreciate.
The Purple 3 or Purple 4 can be a bit more effective than the Casper Hybrid. Purple Mattress Sizes
Purple Hybrids and Original Purple
The Original Purple mattress’s support layer consists of high-density, poly foam rather than pocketed coils.
The Original Purple is firm, supportive, and bouncy. This may appeal to combination sleepers.
The Original Purple Mattress is very cool, just like the Purple Hybrids.
The Original Purple is much cheaper than either Purple Hybrid Premier and Purple Hybrid Premier.
