Who I don’t recommend a Purple Hybrid for
Purple mattresses might not be for couples.
They are so lively, it is likely that you will feel your partner turning and tossing at night.

How Firm are the Purple Hybrid Mattresses?
Let’s now get into the actual feeling of these bed-in a-box hybrids. Below is a detailed account of how I felt when I slept on the three Purple Hybrid models. Remember that feelings are subjective and may vary depending on how you sleep. For example, I’m 5’9″, approximately 125 lbs., and prefer sleeping on my side.
As you will see in the graphic, I found that each mattress had its own feel.
Purple Hybrids and the mattress firmness.
Purple Hybrid. I found the Purple Hybrid mattress to be very firm and gave it a 7. This mattress has a firmer feel than the industry norm of 6.5 for medium-firmness. As the polymer layer on this mattress is thin enough to support a smooth spine, I believe stomach and back sleeping would be most benefited.
Purple Hybrid should be used by back sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier3 : I gave the bed a 6.5 rating on the firmness scale. It had a medium-firm feel. I’d especially recommend this bed to combination sleepers who move between multiple positions in the night and those suffering from lower back pain or looking for a mattress for sciatica . It was able to provide pressure relief as well as support so that you can feel at ease in any of your sleeping positions.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 could be comfortable for combination sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 4 – I scored this bed at 6 out 10 on the mattress firmness rating scale. This soft mattress really supported my pressure points and allowed for a lot of sinkage. However, the bed didn’t feel like it was “stuck in” to me. Side sleepers and side-combined sleepers would love this mattress. This mattress’ pressure relieving qualities will be appreciated by side sleepers and side combination sleepers.

Before we wrap up, I would like to highlight the responsiveness and bounce of all three Purple Hybrids. These beds made me feel more “on top” of them than “in” them. Are Purple Hybrids good for light sleepers (under 130 lb)
Light Back Sleepers — The Hybrid Premier 3 I think is a great choice for light back-sleepers. It fills in their lumbar regions to provide good pressure relief. And it is supportive enough for those with lighter bodies. Either of the other hybrids could also work for these sleepers.
Light Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is the way to go for these sleepers as well. Side sleepers will find it offers excellent pressure relief.

Are the Purple Hybrids Good Mattresses for Average Weight Sleepers (130 – 250 lb)?
Average Weight Back Sleepers-The Hybrid Premier 3 is a great choice for these sleepers because it offers both pressure relief as well as support. This is a great choice for those who need to change positions during the night.
Average Weight Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is the best pick for these sleepers. Its top layer of hyperelasticity polymer is thick enough to allow for pressure relief at hips and shoulders.

Heavy Back Sleepers – I’d recommend these sleepers stick to the Premier 3, which is thick enough to be durable, but won’t feel overly soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers — The Premier 4 can be a great option for heavy side sleepers. This mattress’ thick grid provides ample space for sinkage. Its soft feel should also be suitable for those with sensitive skin.

Purple Hybrids Pain Relief Performance
Pressure relief is closely related. This is how well a particular bed can reduce tension at the hips, shoulders, lower back, and hips. I use a pressure map to check for this.
It sounds complicated but it’s really quite easy. All I have to do is roll the gadget out and get on board. The map does the rest. The gadget tracks my movements on the bed and generates a colored map of the pressure. Blue zones indicate areas of low pressure, and red areas of high.
Pressure relief is one of the benefits of Purple Hybrids.
Back Pain Based purely on these pressure maps, the original Purple Hybrid was found to be the best mattress for those with back problems. The map is bright blue throughout, but does not gape around the lower spine like the Premier 3 & 4 maps. This tells me the original Hybrid is keeping my weight evenly supported, which is a key to avoiding back pain.
Shoulder Pain – Based on these results all three of these beds would be a great fit for anyone suffering from shoulder problems. To relieve pressure, they should cushion the shoulder area.

Purple Hybrid Mattress Performances For Couples

Motion Transfer
Motion transfer describes the movement from one side or the other of the bed. This is an important consideration for anyone who sleeps with a child or furry companion, but more so for couples.
To demonstrate motion transfer, I dropped an 10 lb steel ball, from three heights: 4 inches, 8 inch, and 12 inches. I measured the disturbance it caused. The bigger the lines, then, the more severe the disturbance.
The motion transfer results of Purple Hybrids are impressive.
Given the bounce of these mattresses, it is not surprising to find that they do not offer motion isolation. This shows me that you are likely to feel movement on all three of these mattresses. The best mattress to use for sex has enough bounce and motion control to be easy to move on.
If you are light sleeper, the Purple Hybrids may be too bouncey for you to share.
Their mobility and lift could make them a great choice for you if your sleep is disturbed at night.
Cooling
All of the Purple Hybrids are incredibly cooling.
These beds should make hot sleepers happy. I would also say that they are some of the most cooling mattresses available.

Edge Support
Edge support measures whether you can sleep on your side and still feel supported. Edge support can make your mattress seem larger, as you can spread across its entire surface.
All three Purple mattresses were very supportive of the edges. I could feel the Purple grid layer compress under my weight, but the foam and coils below stayed firm and supportive.

What are Purple Hybrids Made from?
Let’s next look at what these beds are made out of. Most of you will want to know more about the Purple Grid layer. This is the stretchy purple top layer that gives Purple mattresses their unique feel.
I’ll describe the grid, and all the other mattress layers, in detail below. The Purple Hybrids all have the same construction. The only difference between the Purple Grids used in each bed is the number of inches.
All mattresses have a cover made of a stretchy, breathable polyester blend.
Comfort Layer Located directly below the cover, you will find the hyper-elastic smart comfort grid made of polymer smart. This grid is very cooling and supportive. Although it is difficult to describe the feel of this polymer material, it can be compared to a waterbed in that it supports your body and moves with you. The original purple Hybrid uses 2 inches of the Grid, while the Hybrid Premier 3 uses 3 inches and the Hybrid Premier 4 uses 4 inches. The more grid there is, the more pressure-relieving the mattress feels.

The Transition Layer You’ll next find a layer made of poly foam. The transition foam acts to allow the sleeper to move down through the soft grid and onto the firmer pocketed coil below.

The Purple Hybrids are extremely cooling. They don’t trap as much body heat, so anyone who is hot sleeping should be able to enjoy these beds. I also like how responsive the Purple Hybrid models are. Combination sleepers won’t have any trouble changing positions on these beds.
Finally, the Purple Grid feels great. It does a great job of helping you achieve a healthy spinal alignment, but still feels incredible pressure relieving. My Purple Hybrid mattress complaints
Purple mattresses may not offer the best motion isolation. Although this isn’t a major issue, it can make your night more difficult.
I do also want to note that a few customers have complained about the original Purple mattress sagging and forming indentations. Purple Hybrids will last longer due to the layers of innerspring coils. But heavier people may want to choose a different mattress.
