Is a Purple Hybrid a Good Mattress for You?
Purple was established in 2015 and has grown to be one of the most well-known bedding brands. This is due to its cheeky advertising and innovative products. It sells three varieties of hybrid mattresses: the Purple Hybrid Premier 3 or Purple Hybrid Premier 4 and the Purple Hybrid Premier 3. The only difference is the amount of Purple’s special grid layer in each bed. The Premier 3 Hybrid has 2 inches, the Premier 3 3 inches and the Premier 4 4 inches. 4 inches
Although the pressure relief offered by these beds is different, they feel almost identical. Let’s take a closer look at each model to see if it might be the right one for you.

Who I recommend a Purple Hybrid for
Back sleepers who desire a firmer feel for their backs should choose the original Purple Hybrid. Those who want more pressure relief might prefer to use the Purple Premier.
Side sleepers might like the Purple Premier 4 which provides great cushioning around sensitive pressure point.
Stomach sleepers are likely to enjoy the supportive feeling that the original Purple Hybrid offers.
The coolness of these mattresses is something that hot sleepers will appreciate.
Combination sleepers should enjoy the bouncy feel of these beds! Purple Mattress Reveiw
Who I don’t recommend a Purple Hybrid for
Purple mattresses may not be for everyone.
Because they are so buoyant, you might feel your partner tossing around at night.
One of our best memory foam mattresses might be a better fit if you’re easily disturbed at night. Purple Mattress Reveiw
How Firm are the Purple Hybrid Mattresses?
Next, let us get into how these bed in a box hybrids feel. Below, I’ll describe what it was like to sleep in each of the Purple Hybrid hybrid models. It is important to remember that feeling can be subjective and depend on your body type. For example, I’m 5’9″, approximately 125 lbs., and prefer sleeping on my side.
As you will see in the graphic, I found that each mattress had its own feel.
The Purple Hybrids on the mattress firmness scale.
Purple Hybrid: I found this mattress to be quite firm, so gave it a 7 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. This mattress’s support is superior to the industry average of 6.5 for medium firmness. This mattress is best for stomach and back sleepers, since the polymer layer of the polymer is thin enough that it can support a straight spine from hips to shoulders.
Purple Hybrid should be enjoyed by back-sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 – I gave this bed an 8.6 out of 10. It felt medium-firm to me. Combination sleepers, who frequently shift between positions throughout the night, and those with lower back pain or seeking a mattress to support sciatica, will love this bed. It struck a really nice balance between pressure relief and support that I think could feel comfortable in most sleeping positions.
The Purple Hybrid Premier 3 could feel comfortable to combination sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 4 – I scored this bed at 6 out 10 on the mattress firmness rating scale. This soft mattress supported my pressure points well and provided a good amount of sinkage. The bed did not feel “stuck” to me. This mattress is recommended for side sleepers as well as side and combination sleepers. I think these folks will really appreciate the pressure-relieving feel of this mattress.
Side sleepers should like the Purple Hybrid Premier 4.
Before we close this section, I’d like to point out that all three Purple Hybrids have a buoyant, responsive feel. These beds felt like I was more “on top of” the bed than “in it”. It was very easy to shift positions at night. These are the best combination mattresses on the market. Purple Mattress Reveiw

Are Purple Hybrids good for light sleepers (under 130 lb)
Light Back Sleepers – I believe the Hybrid Premier 3 is an excellent choice for light back sleepers. It should fill in their lumbar areas for pressure relief and also provides plenty of support for those who are lighter. You could also try one of the other hybrids.
The Premier 4 is a great option for light side sleepers. It provides great pressure relief which is essential for side sleepers.
Light Stomach sleepers – I would recommend they stick to the original Purple Hybrid. They should have their hips aligned with each other. Purple Mattress Reveiw
Are the Purple Hybrids Good Mattresses for Average Weight Sleepers (130 – 250 lb)?
Average Weight Back Sleepers – The Hybrid Premier 3 is an excellent choice for them, as it provides both pressure relief and support. This is a great choice for those who need to change positions during the night.
Side sleepers who are average in weight – the Premier 4 is the best option for these sleepers. The Premier 4’s thick top layer is made of hyper-elastic plastic and provides pressure relief at the hips and shoulders.
Average Weight Stomach – The original Purple Hybrid should have enough support to keep these people’s spines straight. Purple Mattress Reveiw
Are Purple Hybrids good for heavy sleepers (over 250lb)?
Heavy Back Sleepers — I would suggest these sleepers stick to Premier 3, which is thick and durable but not overly soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers-The Premier 4 is a great choice for those who are heavy sleepers. These people will find the Premier 4 comfortable due to its thick grid layer that allows for lots of sinkage.
Heavy Stomach Sleepers: I would not recommend these beds to heavy stomachs sleepers. They need a firmer mattress to give them optimal support. It might be better to choose one of our top-rated mattresses for heavy persons. Purple Mattress Reveiw
Purple Hybrids Pain Relief
Pressure relief is closely linked to pain relief. This is the measure of how well a bed can relieve tension at the hips, shoulders, and lower back. I use a pressure chart to verify this.
Although it sounds complicated, it is actually very simple. I just roll the gizmo and then hop on the map. As I move around the bed, the gadget records the force my body’s exerting on the map, and makes a colored “map” of the pressure. Blue indicates areas of low pressure and red indicates areas of high pressure.
The Purple Hybrids offer pressure relief.
Back Pain Based on these pressure map results, the original Purple Hybrid is the best fit for sleepers with back pain. The map is blue across the board, but doesn’t gap around the lower back the way the Premier 3 and 4 maps do. This shows me that the original Hybrid is keeping me evenly supported in my weight which is crucial for avoiding back discomfort.
Shoulder Pain Based upon these results, all three beds are great choices for those suffering from shoulder pain. They should do a nice job cushioning the shoulder area to relieve pressure.
Hip Pain The Premier 4 is the clear winner if you suffer from hip pain. Its pressure map appears almost entirely blue, which indicates that it will be used to cradle sensitive hip joints throughout the night. Purple Mattress Reveiw

Purple Hybrid Mattress Performance For Couples
Couples prefer beds that are quiet, responsive enough to sex and offer good edge support. You can read on to see how Purple Hybrids stack in these areas.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer describes the movement from one side or the other of the bed. This is an important aspect for everyone, but it’s especially important for couples and people who share a bed with their child or furry friend.
I dropped a 10-lb steel ball at heights of 4″, 8″ and 12 inches to illustrate motion transfer. The disturbance it caused was measured: the larger the lines, the greater the disturbance.
The Purple Hybrids’ motion transfer results.
Considering how bouncy these mattresses are, I’m not that surprised to see they don’t offer great motion isolation. This tells me that there will be movement on all three mattresses. It could also mean that they might not be the best choice for couples, particularly if one of them is frequently disturbed at night. Purple Mattress Reveiw
Sex
Good motion isolation and enough bounce are two of the best qualities in a mattress for sex.
Personal opinion: I find the Purple Hybrids a bit too lively to share if one is a light sleeper.
But if you’re not easily disturbed at night, they could be nice options for sex thanks to their lift and mobility.
Cooling
All of the Purple Hybrids are incredibly cooling.
All of these beds will be comfortable for hot sleepers. These beds are also great for cooling down.
This is great news to couples who overheat more quickly than those who sleep alone. Purple Mattress Reveiw
Edge Support
Edge support can be described as the degree to which you are able to rest on one side of your mattress and still feel supported. Edge support can make your mattress seem larger, as you can spread across its entire surface.
All three Purple mattress had good edge support. Although I could feel the purple grid layer compressing under my weight the foam and coils underneath remained firm and supportive.
Personallly, I felt that the Purple Premier 3 offered the best edge support. Purple Mattress Reveiw
What are Purple Hybrids Made from?
Next up, let’s get into what these beds are made of! I’m sure most of you want to learn more about that special Purple Grid layer. This is the stretchy purple top layer that gives Purple mattresses their unique feel.
Below is a detailed description of the grid and all other layers of the mattress. Recall that all Purple Hybrids can be assembled the same way. The only difference is how many inches of the Purple Grid each bed uses.
Cover All of these mattresses are covered with a breathable, stretchy polyester blend mattress protector.
Comfort Layer The hyper-elastic comfort grid is located below the cover. This grid is extremely cooling, buoyant, and supportive. Although it is hard to describe how the polymer material feels, I liken it as a water bed. It supports and cradles you body as you move. The Hybrid Premier 3 Purple uses 3 Inches of Grid and the Hybrid Premier 4 4 Inches. The mattress will feel more pressure-relieving if there’s more grid.
The Purple Grid.
Next is a layer of transition foam. This transition foam is used to help the sleeper get through the soft top grid, and on to the stronger pocketed coils system below.
Support Layer: The bulk of Hybrid Premier or Hybrid Premier mattresses consists of a section made of pocketed coils. These springs are very bouncy and help lift the sleeping person up and out of their structure. You will feel more “on top” of these beds because the pocketsed coils and polymer grid provide a lot buoyancy.

Unboxing and Off Gassing Purple Hybrids
Purple Hybrids can be described as all-bed-in a-box mattresses but come in bags. Purple provides complimentary white glove delivery on Hybrid Premier models. They are extremely heavy. While the original Purple Hybrid is not as difficult to lift, it’s still worth having someone nearby to help you bag it. This mattress is not as strong in off-gassing as other bed-ina-box mattresses. Any scent should vanish within a few hours.
Let’s now get to the final thoughts about Purple Hybrid Mattresses. After going over every possible detail I could think of, it’s now time to decide if one of these mattresses is right for you. Although I cannot make that decision for your, I can offer some suggestions to help you.
Purple Hybrid mattresses are one of my favourite things.
The Purple Hybrids are so cool! They don’t trap much body heat at all, so I think most hot sleepers out there should be very happy on these beds! I also love how responsive the Purple Hybrid model are. These beds will be easy to adjust for combination sleepers.
Finally, the Purple Grid feels great. It helps you achieve a healthy spine alignment while still feeling incredible in pressure relieving. Especially when you choose one of the thicker models. The Purple is a great choice if you want to try a different feel. Purple Mattress Reveiw
My Purple Hybrid mattresses complaints
Purple mattresses do not have the best motion isolation. Even though this isn’t an issue, if you are sensitive to motion, a traditional memory mattress might be a better choice.
A few customers complained that the Purple mattress was sagging and creating indentations. I think the Purple Hybrids will be a bit more durable thanks to their innerspring coil layers, but heavier folks especially might want to opt for a different mattress if this is a concern. You should place any Purple bed on a sturdy platform. Purple Mattress Reveiw

What is the difference in the Purple Hybrid Premier mattress and the original Purple Hybrid?
There is only one difference between these two mattresses: the amount of Purple Grid they are made with.
The original Purple Hybrid has a 2-inch grid layer, the Purple Hybrid Premier 3 has a 3-inch grid layer, and the Purple Hybrid Premier 4 has a 4-inch grid layer.
Where are Purple mattresses manufactured?
Purple mattresses are manufactured in the USA.
Can I use a boxspring with Purple Hybrid mattresses
Purple doesn’t recommend using a Box Spring with any of its beds.
They recommend using a solid platform foundation, a slatted frame for a bed, or an adjustable base.
Purple Hybrid vs.
Let’s take an in-depth look at Purple Hybrid Premier mattress and Purple Hybrid Premier mattress.
Purple Hybrids vs Leesa Hybrid
Like the Purple Hybrids, the Leesa Hybrid combines foam layers with pocketed coils for a one-two punch of pressure relief and support.
But it is more traditional than any Purple bed, so it could work for those who aren’t sold on Purple’s unique feel.
For couples or back sleepers, the Leesa Hybrid is my recommendation.
Purple Hybrids vs Casper Hybrid
Casper, unlike the Purples, has zoned support. This means that it’s firmer around the hips and more comfortable at the shoulders.
Purples are more bouncier than Casper Hybrids, which combination sleepers may appreciate.
The Purple 3 and Purple 4 have a little more pressure relief than the Casper Hybrid. Purple Mattress Reveiw
Purple Hybrids and Original Purple
The Original Purple mattress’s support layer is made of high-density poly foam instead of pocketed coils.
The Original Purple is supportive, bouncy, and firm. Combination sleepers may particularly enjoy this feeling.
The Original Purple mattress is similar to the Purple Hybrids and can be very cooling.
The Original Purple is cheaper than either the Purple Hybrid Premier, or Purple Hybrid Premier.
