We will be reviewing the Purple Hybrid Premier and Purple Hybrid Premier mattresses. These beds feature the Hyper-Elastic Polymer Purple grid as well as layers of springy pockets and coils. These beds sound intriguing, but I am not sure if they are comfortable. Purple Mattress Protector Commercial
To find out, these mattresses received a thorough review. I evaluated how they were constructed, how they feel and how they support specific sleepers.

Are Purple Hybrids a Good Mattress?
Purple was established in 2015 and has grown to be one of the most well-known bedding brands. This is due to its cheeky advertising and innovative products. It offers three types of hybrid mattresses: the Purple Hybrid Premier 3, Purple Hybrid Premier 3 and Purple Hybrid Premier 4. There is only one difference between the beds: how much Purple’s grid layer is included in each. The Premier 3 Hybrid has 2 inches, the Premier 3 3 inches and the Premier 4 4 inches. 4 inches
Although the pressure relief offered by these beds is different, they feel almost identical. Let’s take a closer look at each model to see if it might be the right one for you.

Who I recommend a Purple Hybrid for
The original Purple Hybrid is recommended for back sleepers who want a firmer feel, while the Purple Premier provides a bit more pressure relief.
The Purple Premier 4 is a great option for side sleepers, as it provides a lot of cushioning around pressure points.
Stomach sleepers will probably enjoy the supportive feeling of the original Purple Hybrid.
This mattress is cooling and should be loved by hot sleepers.
These beds are great for couples who want to sleep together. Purple Mattress Protector Commercial
Who I don’t recommend a Purple Hybrid for
Purple mattresses might not appeal to couples.
You’ll likely feel a partner turning and tossing in the night because they’re so happy.
One of our best memory foam mattresses might be a better fit if you’re easily disturbed at night. Purple Mattress Protector Commercial
How Firm is the Purple Hybrid Mattresses
Next up, let’s get into what these bed-in-a-box hybrids actually feel like. Below, I’ll go over what it felt like to sleep on all three of the Purple Hybrid models. Remember that feelings are subjective and may vary depending on how you sleep. Referring to my height, I am 5’9″ and 125 lbs. I prefer to sleep on my side.
As you will see in the graphic, I found that each mattress had its own feel.
Purple Hybrids are ranked on the mattress firmness scale.
Purple Hybrid. I found the Purple Hybrid mattress to be very firm and gave it a 7. When compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, it’s clear that this mattress is going to work best for those who like a more supportive feel. Because the polymer layer is thin enough for a consistent spinal line, stomach and back sleepers will benefit most.
Purple Hybrids are great for back sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 – I gave this bed an 8.6 out of 10. It felt medium-firm to me. This bed is recommended for combination sleepers who need to move around in the night. It also suits those who suffer from lower back pain and are looking for a mattress that can help with sciatica. It was able to provide pressure relief as well as support so that you can feel at ease in any of your sleeping positions.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 can be used to combine sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 4: I scored this bed as a 6 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. This soft mattress truly supported my pressure points, and gave me a great amount of sinkage. But, I still didn’t feel “stuck-in” the bed. This mattress would suit side sleepers or side combo sleepers. This mattress’ pressure relieving qualities will be appreciated by side sleepers and side combination sleepers.
Side sleepers will love the Purple Hybrid Premier 4.
Before we close this section, I’d like to point out that all three Purple Hybrids have a buoyant, responsive feel. These beds made me feel more “on top” of them than “in” them. It was also easy to move around at night. These are my top picks for combination sleepers. Purple Mattress Protector Commercial
Are Purple Hybrids Good Mattresses For Light Sleepers (Under 130 Pounds)?
Light Back Sleepers — The Hybrid Premier 3 I think is a great choice for light back-sleepers. It fills in their lumbar regions to provide good pressure relief. And it is supportive enough for those with lighter bodies. These sleepers could also benefit from any of the hybrids.
The Premier 4 is a great option for light side sleepers. Side sleepers will appreciate the pressure relief it provides.
Light Stomach Sleepers- These people should stick with the original Purple Hybrid. It will keep their hips in line with their shoulders. Purple Mattress Protector Commercial
Are Purple Hybrids suitable for average-weight sleepers (130 – 250 lb), or are they not?
Average Weight Back Sleepers: The Hybrid Premier 3 is great for those who are average weight. It combines pressure relief and support. You can move from one position to another at night, making it a good choice.
Side sleepers with average weights – The Premier 4 mattress is the best for them. Its thick top layer of hyper-elastic polymer provides plenty of room to sink in for pressure relief at the shoulders and hips.
Average Weight Stomach Sleepers-The original Purple Hybrid should provide enough support to keep their spines straight. Purple Mattress Protector Commercial
Are Purple Hybrids suitable for heavy sleepers (over 250lb).
Heavy Back Sleepers – I would recommend this sleeper stick to the Premier 3 which is thick enough that it will last, but doesn’t feel too soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers — The Premier 4 can be a great option for heavy side sleepers. This mattress’ thick grid provides ample space for sinkage. Its soft feel should also be suitable for those with sensitive skin.
Heavy Stomach / Back Sleepers – I don’t recommend these mattresses to anyone with a heavy stomach. These people need to have optimal support and a firmer mattress. This mattress is our top choice for heavy sleepers. Purple Mattress Protector Commercial
Purple Hybrids Pain Relief Performance
Pressure relief is closely related. This is how well a particular bed can reduce tension at the hips, shoulders, lower back, and hips. I use a pressure chart to verify this.
Though it sounds complicated, it’s actually quite simple: I roll this gizmo out, hop aboard, and let the map do the rest! The gadget tracks my movements on the bed and generates a colored map of the pressure. Blue zones indicate areas of low pressure, and red areas of high.
Pressure relief is a result of the Purple Hybrids.
Back Pain Based purely on these pressure maps, the original Purple Hybrid was found to be the best mattress for those with back problems. Blue across the board, but not around the lower back like the Premier 3 or 4 maps. This is an indication that the original Hybrid is evenly supporting my weight, which is important for avoiding back pain.
Shoulder Pain – Based on these results all three of these beds would be a great fit for anyone suffering from shoulder problems. To relieve pressure, they should cushion the shoulder area.
Hip Pain is The Premier 4 for people with hip pain. Its pressure map is almost completely blue, which tells me sensitive hip joints will be cradled throughout the night. Purple Mattress Protector Commercial
Purple Hybrid Mattress Performance for Couples
Couples love beds that can isolate motion transfer, allow for sex while also being responsive enough for sex. Continue reading to learn how Purple Hybrids stack-up in those areas.
Motion transfer describes the movement from one side or the other of the bed. This is an important aspect for everyone, but it’s especially important for couples and people who share a bed with their child or furry friend.
To demonstrate motion transfer, I dropped an 10 lb steel ball, from three heights: 4 inches, 8 inch, and 12 inches. I measured the disturbance it caused. The bigger the lines, then, the more severe the disturbance.
The Purple Hybrids’ motion transfer results.
Given the bounce of these mattresses, it is not surprising to find that they do not offer motion isolation. This tells me that there will be movement on all three mattresses. It could also mean that they might not be the best choice for couples, particularly if one of them is frequently disturbed at night. Purple Mattress Protector Commercial
The best mattress for sex is one that has enough bounce and motion isolation to allow you to move easily.
If you are light sleeper, the Purple Hybrids may be too bouncey for you to share.
But if you’re not easily disturbed at night, they could be nice options for sex thanks to their lift and mobility.
All of the Purple Hybrids are incredibly cooling.
Hot sleepers should be happy on any of these beds. These beds are also great for cooling down.
This is good news for couples who tend to heat up much faster than single sleepers. Purple Mattress Protector Commercial
Edge support refers to your ability to lie on one side or the other of your bed while still feeling supported. Because you can spread your weight across the entire mattress, great edge support can make your mattress feel larger.
I thought all three Purple mattresses had good edge support. The purple grid layer could compress under my weight, but I felt the foam and coils beneath it stay firm and supportive.
Personallly, I felt that the Purple Premier 3 offered the best edge support. Purple Mattress Protector Commercial
What is the Purple Hybrid?
Let’s next look at what these beds are made out of. I’m sure you want to find out more about Purple Grid. This is the purple top layer, which gives Purple mattresses their distinctive feel.
Below I’ll detail the grid as well as all of the mattress layers. It is important to remember that all Purple Hybrids have the exact same construction. The only difference is the amount of Purple Grid each bed uses.
Cover All these mattresses feature a breathable and stretchy polyester blend mattress cover.
Comfort Layer The hyper-elastic comfort grid is located below the cover. This grid is extremely cooling, buoyant, and supportive. Although it is hard to describe how the polymer material feels, I liken it as a water bed. It supports and cradles you body as you move. The Hybrid Premier 3 Purple uses 3 Inches of Grid and the Hybrid Premier 4 4 Inches. The mattress will feel more pressure-relieving if there’s more grid.
A look at the Purple Grid.
Next, you will find a layer with poly foam. This layer of transition foam helps to ease the sleeper through the soft top grid into the more robust pocketed coil system.
Support Layer This section is found in both Hybrid Premier as well as Hybrid Premier. These springs provide a lift to the mattress and are extremely buoyant. In general, you’ll likely feel more “on top” of these beds as the polymer grid and pocketed coils produce a ton of buoyancy.

Unboxing and Off Gassing Purple Hybrids
Purple Hybrids are all-bed-in-a box mattresses. However, they come in bags rather than boxes. Purple provides complimentary white glove delivery on Hybrid Premier models. They are extremely heavy. While the original Purple Hybrid is not as difficult to lift, it’s still worth having someone nearby to help you bag it. They don’t have an overpowering off-gassing odor, which is a plus for these mattresses. Any scent should disappear in a matter of hours.
Let me conclude my review on Purple Hybrid Mattresses. Now it’s time to make a decision about whether one of these mattresses is the right choice for you. And though I can’t make that decision for you, I can leave you with a few final thoughts to help you get there on your own.
Purple Hybrid mattresses are one of my favourite things.
The Purple Hybrids are so cool! These beds don’t trap any body heat so they should make most hot sleepers very happy. I like the responsiveness of Purple Hybrid beds. These beds will be easy to adjust for combination sleepers.
I love the feeling of the Purple Grid. It helps you achieve a healthy spine alignment while still feeling incredible in pressure relieving. Especially when you choose one of the thicker models. If you are looking for a unique look, the Purple may be right for you. Purple Mattress Protector Commercial
My Purple Hybrid mattress complaints
Purple mattresses don’t have the best movement isolation. Even though this isn’t an issue, if you are sensitive to motion, a traditional memory mattress might be a better choice.
I do also want to note that a few customers have complained about the original Purple mattress sagging and forming indentations. Purple Hybrids will last longer due to the layers of innerspring coils. But heavier people may want to choose a different mattress. For a longer life, make sure you put the Purple bed on a solid platform. Purple Mattress Protector Commercial

Purple Hybrids Vs.
Let’s take a deeper look at the Purple Hybrid Premier and Purple Hybrid Premier mattresses. Now let’s compare them to other models on the internet.
Purple Hybrids vs Leesa Hybrid
The Leesa Hybrid is similar to the Purple Hybrids and combines foam layers with pocketed coils for support and pressure relief.
Although it does have a traditional feel, it’s still more comfortable than any Purple beds. It could also work well for people who don’t want Purple’s unique feel.
I would recommend the Leesa Hybrid for couples and back sleepers.
Purple Hybrids vs Casper Hybrid
Casper has zoned support. It’s more firm at the hips than the Purples. The shoulders are softer to provide optimal lumbar support.
Purples are a bit more bouncier that the Casper Hybrids. This is something combination sleepers may like.
The Purple 3 or Purple 4 can be a bit more effective than the Casper Hybrid. Purple Mattress Protector Commercial
Purple Hybrids vs Original Purple
The Original Purple mattress’s support layers are made of high-density Poly foam, and not pocketed coils.
The Original Purple is supportive, bouncy, and firm. Combination sleepers might particularly like this feel.
The Original Purple mattress can be used in conjunction with the Purple Hybrids to cool down.
The Original Purple costs less than either Purple Hybrid Premier (or Purple Hybrid Premier).
