It sells three varieties of hybrid mattresses: the Purple Hybrid Premier 3 or Purple Hybrid Premier 4 and the Purple Hybrid Premier 3. There is only one difference between the beds: how much Purple’s grid layer is included in each. How Firm is the Purple Hybrid Mattresses
Next, let’s see how these bed-ina-box hybrids actually feel. Below, I’ll describe what it was like to sleep in each of the Purple Hybrid hybrid models. Keep in mind that feel is subjective, and can change depending on your body type and preferred sleep position. For reference, I’m 5’9″, about 125 lbs, and prefer to sleep on my side.
As you can see in the graphic below, I actually thought all three mattresses had pretty distinct feels, so I’ll section them off below so you can get my full thoughts on each one.
Purple Hybrids are ranked on the mattress firmness scale.
Purple Hybrid: I found this mattress to be quite firm, so gave it a 7 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. This mattress has a firmer feel than the industry norm of 6.5 for medium-firmness. I think stomach or back sleepers would benefit most from this feel, as the polymer layer is thin enough to support an even spinal line from hips to shoulders.
Purple Hybrid should be used by back sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier3 : I gave the bed a 6.5 rating on the firmness scale. It had a medium-firm feel. Combination sleepers who shift between different positions during the night as well as those with sciatica or lower back pain would benefit from this bed. It struck a really nice balance between pressure relief and support that I think could feel comfortable in most sleeping positions.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 may feel good for combination sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier #4: I gave it a 6 out 10. This soft mattress really cradled my pressure points and offered a nice amount of sinkage. I did not feel “stuck-in”, however. This mattress is recommended for side sleepers as well as side and combination sleepers. These people will appreciate the pressure-relieving feeling of this mattress.
Side sleepers may like the Purple Hybrid Premier 4

Are the Purple Hybrids Good Mattresses for Light Sleepers (Under 130 lb)?
Light Back Sleepers — The Hybrid Premier 3 I think is a great choice for light back-sleepers. It fills in their lumbar regions to provide good pressure relief. And it is supportive enough for those with lighter bodies. You could also try one of the other hybrids.
The Premier 4 is a great option for light side sleepers. Side sleepers will appreciate the pressure relief it provides.

Are Purple Hybrids Good For Average Weight Sleepers (130-250lb)?
Average Weight Back sleepers – The Hybrid Premier 3 is the perfect choice because it combines pressure relief with support. This is a great choice for those who need to change positions during the night.
Average Weight Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is a great choice for these people. The Premier 4’s thick top layer is made of hyper-elastic plastic and provides pressure relief at the hips and shoulders.

Are Purple Hybrids the Best Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250lb).
Heavy Back Sleepers – I would recommend this sleeper stick to the Premier 3 which is thick enough that it will last, but doesn’t feel too soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is a nice choice for heavy side sleepers. This mattress’ thick grid provides ample space for sinkage. Its soft feel should also be suitable for those with sensitive skin.

Purple Hybrids Pain Relief
Pressure relief is closely linked to pain relief. This is the measure of how well a bed can relieve tension at the hips, shoulders, and lower back. To test for this, I like to use a pressure map.
Although it sounds complicated, the process is really simple. You just need to roll the device and then get onboard. The gadget tracks my movements on the bed and generates a colored map of the pressure. Blue indicates areas of low pressure and red indicates areas of high pressure.

Back Pain Based on these pressure map results, the original Purple Hybrid is the best fit for sleepers with back pain. The map is uniformly blue, but it doesn’t show any gaps around the lower back as the Premier 3 and 4 maps. This means that the original Hybrid is supporting my weight evenly, which is key to avoiding back problems.
Shoulder Pain Based on these results, all three of these beds are great fits for sleepers with shoulder pain! They should do a nice job cushioning the shoulder area to relieve pressure.

To demonstrate motion transfer, I dropped an 10 lb steel ball, from three heights: 4 inches, 8 inch, and 12 inches. I measured the disturbance it caused. The bigger the lines, then, the more severe the disturbance.

Good motion isolation and enough bounce are two of the best qualities in a mattress for sex.
The Purple Hybrids seem a bit too soft to be shared if you aren’t a light sleeper.
If you don’t mind being disturbed at night, these guys could be great options for sex because of their mobility and lift.
Cooling
All Purple Hybrids are extremely cool.
Any of these beds is suitable for hot sleepers. They are also among the most comfortable and cooling you can buy.

Edge Support
Edge support measures whether you can sleep on your side and still feel supported. Edge support can make your mattress seem larger, as you can spread across its entire surface.
All three Purple mattresses I tested had excellent edge support. I could feel the Purple grid layer shrink under my body weight, but the foam below and coils were firm and supportive.

Comfort Layer Located directly below the cover, you will find the hyper-elastic smart comfort grid made of polymer smart. This grid is buoyant, supportive, yet incredibly cooling. Although it is difficult to describe the feel of this polymer material, it can be compared to a waterbed in that it supports your body and moves with you. The original purple Hybrid has 2 inches of Grid, the Hybrid Premier 3 has 3 inches, and the Hybrid Premier 4 has 4 inches. The mattress will feel more pressure-relieving if there’s more grid.

Purple Hybrids Unboxing & Off-Gassing
Purple Hybrids come in bags and are not boxed mattresses. The Hybrid Premier models are very heavy, so Purple throws in complimentary white glove delivery with those beds. Although the original Purple Hybrid is easier to lift, I recommend that you have a friend to help with unbagging it. They don’t have an overpowering off-gassing odor, which is a plus for these mattresses. Any scent should vanish within a few hours.

I am a huge fan of the Purple Hybrids’ cooling properties. They don’t trap body heat and should therefore be comfortable for most hot sleepers. I like the responsiveness of Purple Hybrid beds. These beds will be easy to adjust for combination sleepers.
I love the feeling of the Purple Grid. It does a great job of helping you achieve a healthy spinal alignment, but still feels incredible pressure relieving. You will find it to be extremely comfortable, especially if you go for the thicker models. The Purple is an excellent choice for those who want to experience a more distinctive feel. Purple mattresses may not offer the best motion isolation. Even though this isn’t an issue, if you are sensitive to motion, a traditional memory mattress might be a better choice.
