How Firm are Purple Hybrid mattresses?
Let’s now get into the actual feeling of these bed-in a-box hybrids. Below is a detailed account of how I felt when I slept on the three Purple Hybrid models. Remember that feelings are subjective and may vary depending on how you sleep. Referring to my height, I am 5’9″ and 125 lbs. I prefer to sleep on my side.
As you will see in the graphic, I found that each mattress had its own feel.
Purple Hybrids and the mattress firmness.
Purple Hybrid. This mattress is quite firm. This mattress has a firmer feel than the industry norm of 6.5 for medium-firmness. Because the polymer layer is thin enough for a consistent spinal line, stomach and back sleepers will benefit most.
Purple Hybrids are great for back sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3. I gave this bed a rating of 6.5/10 on the firmness scale. I felt that it was medium-firm. Combination sleepers, who frequently shift between positions throughout the night, and those with lower back pain or seeking a mattress to support sciatica, will love this bed. It offered pressure relief and support, which I believe could be used in any position.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 can be used to combine sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 4 – I scored this bed at 6 out 10 on the mattress firmness rating scale. This soft mattress supported my pressure points well and provided a good amount of sinkage. The bed did not feel “stuck” to me. I’d recommend this mattress to side sleepers or side combination sleepers. I think these folks will really appreciate the pressure-relieving feel of this mattress.
Side sleepers will like the Purple Hybrid Premier 4
Before we close this section, I’d like to point out that all three Purple Hybrids have a buoyant, responsive feel. Are Purple Hybrids good for light sleepers (under 130 lb)
Light Back Sleepers- The Hybrid Premier 3 will work well for light back sleepers. This hybrid should provide pressure relief in the lumbar regions and be supportive for people who are lighter. They could also use any of the other hybrids.
Light Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is the way to go for these sleepers as well. Side sleepers will find it offers excellent pressure relief.

Are the Purple Hybrids Good Mattresses for Average Weight Sleepers (130 – 250 lb)?
Average Weight Back Sleepers-The Hybrid Premier 3 is a great choice for these sleepers because it offers both pressure relief as well as support. This is a great choice for those who need to change positions during the night.
Average Weight Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is the best pick for these sleepers. The thick layer of hyperelastic polymer on the top allows for plenty of pressure relief at the shoulders, hips, and hips.

Purple Hybrids Pain Relief
Pressure relief is closely related to pain relief. It is an indicator of how well a mattress can ease tension at the shoulders and hips. To check this, I use a Pressure Map.
It sounds complicated but it’s really quite easy. All I have to do is roll the gadget out and get on board. The map does the rest. The gadget records the force of my body on the map and gives me a colored “map”. Blue areas indicate low pressure, while red areas indicate high pressure.

Back Pain Based off these pressure map results, we believe that the original Purple Hybrid will be the best option for back pain sufferers. The map is blue across the board, but doesn’t gap around the lower back the way the Premier 3 and 4 maps do. This tells me the original Hybrid is keeping my weight evenly supported, which is a key to avoiding back pain.
Shoulder Pain Based on these results, all three of these beds are great fits for sleepers with shoulder pain! These beds should be able to cushion the shoulders and relieve pressure.

Motion transfer describes the movement from one side or the other of the bed. This is a crucial factor for any sleeper, but particularly for those who share a mattress with a child or furry pet friend.
To demonstrate motion transfer, I dropped an 10 lb steel ball, from three heights: 4 inches, 8 inch, and 12 inches. I measured the disturbance it caused. The bigger the lines, then, the more severe the disturbance.

Given the bounce of these mattresses, it is not surprising to find that they do not offer motion isolation. This shows me that you are likely to feel movement on all three of these mattresses. Good motion isolation and enough bounce are two of the best qualities in a mattress for sex.
My personal opinion is that the Purple Hybrids can be a little too buoyant to share with light sleepers.
Their mobility and lift could make them a great choice for you if your sleep is disturbed at night.
Cooling
All Purple Hybrids offer incredible cooling.
These beds should make hot sleepers happy. They’re also one of the most cool mattresses that you’ll find.

Edge support measures whether you can sleep on your side and still feel supported. Because you can spread your weight across the entire mattress, great edge support can make your mattress feel larger.
All three Purple mattresses were very supportive of the edges. I could feel the Purple grid layer compress under my weight, but the foam and coils below stayed firm and supportive.

What is the Purple Hybrid?
Let’s next look at what these beds are made out of. I know most people want to know more information about the Purple Grid layer. This grid is the stretchy layer of purple that gives Purple mattresses their unique feeling.
Below, I will detail the grid and the various mattress layers. All Purple Hybrids are made the same. The only difference is the amount of Purple Grid each bed uses.
Cover These mattresses come with a polyester blend mattress cover that is breathable and flexible.
Comfort Layer Just below the cover is the hyper-elastic, smart comfort grid. This grid is extremely cooling, buoyant, and supportive. It is difficult to describe how this polymer material feels. However, I would compare it to a waterbed because it wraps around your body as you move. The original purple Hybrid uses 2 inches of the Grid, while the Hybrid Premier 3 uses 3 inches and the Hybrid Premier 4 uses 4 inches. The more grid you have, the more comfortable the mattress is.

Transition Layer Next up, you’ll land on a layer of poly foam. This layer of transition foam helps to ease the sleeper through the soft top grid into the more robust pocketed coil system.
Support Layer A section of pocketed coils makes up the bulk of the Hybrid Premier and Hybrid Premier mattresses. These springs are very bouncy and help lift the sleeping person up and out of their structure. Because of the buoyancy of the pocketsed coils and polymer grid, these beds are more comfortable than others.

Purple Hybrids Unboxing, Off-Gassing
Purple Hybrids all come in a box, but are actually packaged in bags! Purple provides complimentary white glove delivery on Hybrid Premier models. They are extremely heavy. The original Purple Hybrid isn’t as hard to lift, but I’d still recommend having a friend nearby to help you unbag it. These mattresses are a great option because they don’t emit a strong scent like other bed-in a-box models. Any scent should disappear in a matter of hours.

I really love how cooling all of the Purple Hybrids are. They don’t trap much body heat at all, so I think most hot sleepers out there should be very happy on these beds! The Purple Hybrid models are very responsive. Combination sleepers will have no trouble changing their positions on these beds.
Finally, the Purple Grid feels great. It does a great job of helping you achieve a healthy spinal alignment, but still feels incredible pressure relieving. My Purple Hybrid Mattress complaints
The Purple mattresses aren’t the most motion-simpliant. Although this isn’t a major issue, it can make your night more difficult.
However, I would like to point out that some customers were unhappy with the original Purple mattress’s tendency of sagging or forming indentations. The Purple Hybrids are more durable due to the innerspring coil layers. However, heavier people might prefer a different mattress.
