Purple was founded 2015 and has been a household name ever since. Its innovative products and cheeky advertisements have helped make Purple a popular brand in the bedding market. Back sleepers who desire a firmer feel for their backs should choose the original Purple Hybrid. Those who want more pressure relief might prefer to use the Purple Premier.
Side sleepers will love the Purple Premier 4 because it provides excellent cushioning for pressure points.
Stomach-sleepers will enjoy the support of the original Purple Hybrid.

What is the Firmness of Purple Hybrid Mattresses
Let’s next look at how these bed/in-a-box hybrids actually felt. Below, I’ll describe what it was like to sleep in each of the Purple Hybrid hybrid models. Feelings are subjective and will vary depending on your body type and preferred sleeping position. Referring to my height, I am 5’9″ and 125 lbs. I prefer to sleep on my side.

Purple Hybrid – I found this mattress to have a very firm feel, so I gave it 7/10 on the mattress firmness rating. It’s obvious that this mattress is more supportive than the industry-standard 6.5 for mediumfirmness. Because the polymer layer is thin enough for a consistent spinal line, stomach and back sleepers will benefit most.
Purple Hybrid should be used by back sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3. I gave this bed a rating of 6.5/10 on the firmness scale. I felt that it was medium-firm. Combination sleepers, who frequently shift between positions throughout the night, and those with lower back pain or seeking a mattress to support sciatica, will love this bed. It provided pressure relief and support in a way that could be comfortable in all sleeping positions.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 can be used to combine sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 4: I scored this bed as a 6 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. This soft mattress supported my pressure points well and provided a good amount of sinkage. I did not feel “stuck-in”, however. Side sleepers and side-combined sleepers would love this mattress. I believe these people will love the pressure-relieving comfort of this mattress.
Side sleepers should like the Purple Hybrid Premier 4.

Are Purple Hybrids Good For Light Sleepers (Under 130 Lb)?
Light Back Sleepers- The Hybrid Premier 3 will work well for light back sleepers. This hybrid should provide pressure relief in the lumbar regions and be supportive for people who are lighter. They could also use any of the other hybrids.
The Premier 4 is a great option for light side sleepers. Side sleepers will love the fact that it provides pressure relief.

Are Purple Hybrids Good For Average Weight Sleepers (130-250lb)?
Average Weight Back sleepers – The Hybrid Premier 3 is the perfect choice because it combines pressure relief with support. If you need to move around at night, it’s a good option.
Average Weight Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is a great choice for these people. Its top layer of hyperelasticity polymer is thick enough to allow for pressure relief at hips and shoulders.

Are Purple Hybrids a good mattress for heavy sleepers (over 250 lb).
Heavy Back Sleepers: I recommend that these sleepers stick with the Premier 3. It is thick enough for durability, but not too soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is a nice choice for heavy side sleepers. These people will find the Premier 4 comfortable due to its thick grid layer that allows for lots of sinkage.

Purple Hybrids Pain Relief
Pressure relief is closely linked to pain relief. This is the measure of how well a bed can relieve tension at the hips, shoulders, and lower back. I use a pressure map to check for this.
Although it sounds complex, it’s actually quite straightforward. I simply roll this device out, get on, and the map will do the rest. The gadget tracks my movements on the bed and generates a colored map of the pressure. Blue areas indicate low pressure, while red areas indicate high pressure.

Back Pain Based on these results, the original Purple Hybrid is the best choice for people with back pain. The map is bright blue throughout, but does not gape around the lower spine like the Premier 3 & 4 maps. This shows me that the original Hybrid is keeping me evenly supported in my weight which is crucial for avoiding back discomfort.
Shoulder Pain Based upon these results, all three beds are great choices for those suffering from shoulder pain. To relieve pressure they should do a good job cushioning the shoulder.
Hip Pain The Prime 4 is the clear winner in hip pain. Its pressure map is almost completely blue, which tells me sensitive hip joints will be cradled throughout the night. Purple Mattress Codes

Motion transfer is when there is motion between the two sides of a bed. This is an important factor for all sleepers, but especially for couples or folks who share a bed with a child or furry best friend.
To demonstrate motion transfer, I dropped an 10 lb steel ball, from three heights: 4 inches, 8 inch, and 12 inches. I measured the disturbance it caused. The bigger the lines, then, the more severe the disturbance.

Given how soft these mattresses are, it’s not surprising that they don’t provide much motion isolation. This tells me that there will be movement on all three mattresses. The best mattress for sex is one that has enough bounce and motion isolation to allow you to move easily.
Personally, I think the Purple Hybrids are a bit too bouncy to share if you’re a light sleeper.
Their mobility and lift could make them a great choice for you if your sleep is disturbed at night.
Cooling
All Purple Hybrids have a remarkable cooling effect.
These beds are great for hot sleepers. I’d say they’re also some of the best cooling mattresses you can find.

Edge support is a measure of whether or not you’ll be able to sleep all the way on the side of your bed and still feel supported. Because you can spread your weight across the entire mattress, great edge support can make your mattress feel larger.
All three Purple mattresses were very supportive of the edges. The purple grid layer could compress under my weight, but I felt the foam and coils beneath it stay firm and supportive.

What are Purple Hybrids Made Of?
Next up, let’s get into what these beds are made of! I know most people want to know more information about the Purple Grid layer. This is the stretchy purple top layer that gives Purple mattresses their unique feel.
Below you will find detailed descriptions of the grid as well the other layers. All Purple Hybrids are made the same. The only difference is how many inches of the Purple Grid each bed uses.
Cover All these mattresses feature a breathable and stretchy polyester blend mattress cover.
Comfort Layer Directly below the cover is where you’ll encounter the hyper-elastic polymer smart comfort grid. This grid is extremely cooling, buoyant, and supportive. Although it is difficult to describe the feel of this polymer material, it can be compared to a waterbed in that it supports your body and moves with you. The original purple Hybrid used 2 inches of Grid, while the Hybrid Premier 3 and Hybrid Premier 4 use 3 inches and 4 respectively. The mattress will feel less pressure-relieving, the larger the grid.

Next is a layer of transition foam. This transition foam works to ease the sleeper down through the soft top grid and onto the sturdier pocketed coil system below.
Support Layer A section of pocketed coils makes up the bulk of the Hybrid Premier and Hybrid Premier mattresses. These springs, which are very buoyant, help to lift the sleeper higher and further out of the structure. You will feel more “on top” of these beds because the pocketsed coils and polymer grid provide a lot buoyancy.

Unboxing and Off Gassing Purple Hybrids
Purple Hybrids can be described as all-bed-in a-box mattresses but come in bags. Purple provides complimentary white glove delivery on Hybrid Premier models. They are extremely heavy. Although the original Purple Hybrid mattress is easier to unbag, I recommend having someone to help. They don’t have an overpowering off-gassing odor, which is a plus for these mattresses. The Purple mattresses aren’t the most motion-simpliant. This is not a problem, but if you are constantly disturbed at night, you may want to consider a traditional memory foam mattress. It will absorb more motion.
I do also want to note that a few customers have complained about the original Purple mattress sagging and forming indentations.
