Purple was founded in 2015. It has become one of the most loved bedding brands thanks to its quirky advertisements and innovative products. What is the Firmness of Purple Hybrid Mattresses
Let’s now get into the actual feeling of these bed-in a-box hybrids. Below is a detailed account of how I felt when I slept on the three Purple Hybrid models. Feelings are subjective and will vary depending on your body type and preferred sleeping position. Referring to the above, I am approximately 5’9″ and weigh 125 lbs.
As you can see from the graphic below I felt that all three mattresses had very distinct feelings. So I’ll break them apart so you can read my full thoughts about each.

Purple Hybrid: This mattress was quite firm so I gave it a 7 on the mattress firmness scale. This mattress’s support is superior to the industry average of 6.5 for medium firmness. I think stomach or back sleepers would benefit most from this feel, as the polymer layer is thin enough to support an even spinal line from hips to shoulders.
Purple Hybrid is recommended for back sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier3: I gave this mattress a 6.5 on the firmness scale and it felt true to medium-firm. Combination sleepers, who frequently shift between positions throughout the night, and those with lower back pain or seeking a mattress to support sciatica, will love this bed. It struck a really nice balance between pressure relief and support that I think could feel comfortable in most sleeping positions.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 may feel good for combination sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier #4: I gave it a 6 out 10. This soft mattress supported my pressure points well and provided a good amount of sinkage. I did not feel “stuck-in”, however. This mattress would suit side sleepers or side combo sleepers. This mattress is great for relieving pressure.
Side sleepers will love the Purple Hybrid Premier 4.
Before we wrap up, I would like to highlight the responsiveness and bounce of all three Purple Hybrids. These beds made me feel more “on top” of them than “in” them. Are Purple Hybrids Good Mattresses For Light Sleepers (Under 130 Pounds)?
Light Back Sleepers- The Hybrid Premier 3 will work well for light back sleepers. This hybrid should provide pressure relief in the lumbar regions and be supportive for people who are lighter. Either of the other hybrids could also work for these sleepers.
The Premier 4 is a great option for light side sleepers. Side sleepers will love the fact that it provides pressure relief.

Are Purple Hybrids good mattresses for average weight sleepers (130-250 lb)
Average Weight Back Sleepers-The Hybrid Premier 3 is a great choice for these sleepers because it offers both pressure relief as well as support. This is a great choice for those who need to change positions during the night.
Average Weight Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is a great choice for these people. Its thick top layer of hyper-elastic polymer provides plenty of room to sink in for pressure relief at the shoulders and hips.

Are Purple Hybrids suitable for heavy sleepers (over 250lb).
Heavy Back Sleepers – I would recommend this sleeper stick to the Premier 3 which is thick enough that it will last, but doesn’t feel too soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers — The Premier 4 can be a great option for heavy side sleepers. This mattress’ thick grid provides ample space for sinkage. Its soft feel should also be suitable for those with sensitive skin.

Purple Hybrids Pain Relief
Pressure relief is closely related to pain relief. It is an indicator of how well a mattress can ease tension at the shoulders and hips. A pressure map is a great way to test this.
Though it sounds complicated, it’s actually quite simple: I roll this gizmo out, hop aboard, and let the map do the rest! As I move around the bed, the gadget records the force my body’s exerting on the map, and makes a colored “map” of the pressure. The blue areas denote low pressure while the red areas are high.

Back Pain Based purely on these pressure maps, the original Purple Hybrid was found to be the best mattress for those with back problems. The map is blue across the board, but doesn’t gap around the lower back the way the Premier 3 and 4 maps do. This tells me the original Hybrid is keeping my weight evenly supported, which is a key to avoiding back pain.
Shoulder Pain According to these results, these beds are excellent choices for people suffering from shoulder pain. To alleviate pressure, they should do a great job of cushioning the shoulder region.

Motion transfer is when there is motion between the two sides of a bed. This is important for all sleepers but especially for couples who share a bedroom with a child, furry friend, or other people.
To demonstrate motion transfer, I dropped an 10 lb steel ball, from three heights: 4 inches, 8 inch, and 12 inches. I measured the disturbance it caused. The bigger the lines, then, the more severe the disturbance.

Good motion isolation and enough bounce are two of the best qualities in a mattress for sex.
If you are light sleeper, the Purple Hybrids may be too bouncey for you to share.
They could also be a good option for sex if you aren’t easily disturbed at night.
Cooling
All of the Purple Hybrids are incredibly cooling.
These beds are great for hot sleepers. I’d say they’re also some of the best cooling mattresses you can find.

Edge Support
Edge support is a measure of whether or not you’ll be able to sleep all the way on the side of your bed and still feel supported. Your mattress will feel bigger if you have great edge support. You can spread your weight over the entire surface of your mattress.
All three Purple mattresses provided good edge support. I could feel the Purple grid layer shrink under my body weight, but the foam below and coils were firm and supportive.

Let’s see what these beds actually are! Most of you will want to know more about the Purple Grid layer. This purple top layer is what gives Purple mattresses their unique look.
