Purple Hybrid Mattress Video Review
Is a Purple Hybrid a good mattress?
Purple was founded 2015 and has been a household name ever since. Its innovative products and cheeky advertisements have helped make Purple a popular brand in the bedding market. It sells three different hybrid mattresses, the Purple Hybrid, the Purple Hybrid Premier 3, and Purple Hybrid Premier 4. The only difference between these beds is how much of Purple’s special grid layer is included in each. The Premier 3 Hybrid uses 3 inches, the Premier 3 uses 3 inches, and the Premier 4 uses 4 inches. 4 inches.
Although they offer different pressure relief, the beds feel fairly similar. Below is a list of who each model may be best suited for.

Who I recommend a Purple Hybrid for
Back sleepers who desire a firmer feel for their backs should choose the original Purple Hybrid. Those who want more pressure relief might prefer to use the Purple Premier.
Side sleepers will love the Purple Premier 4 because it provides excellent cushioning for pressure points.
Stomach-sleepers will enjoy the support of the original Purple Hybrid.
These mattresses should be appreciated by hot sleepers.
These beds should be enjoyed by combination sleepers! Purple Mattress And Box Spring
Who I don’t recommend a Purple Hybrid for
Purple mattresses may not be for everyone.
You’ll likely feel a partner turning and tossing in the night because they’re so happy.
One of our top memory foam mattresses might be a better option if you have trouble falling asleep at night. Purple Mattress And Box Spring
What is the Firmness of Purple Hybrid Mattresses
Next, let us get into how these bed in a box hybrids feel. Below I will describe how it felt to sleep on each of the Purple Hybrid models. Feelings are subjective and will vary depending on your body type and preferred sleeping position. For example, I’m 5’9″, approximately 125 lbs., and prefer sleeping on my side.
As you can see, all three of my mattresses felt very different to me.
Purple Hybrids and the mattress firmness.
Purple Hybrid. This mattress is quite firm. This mattress’s support is superior to the industry average of 6.5 for medium firmness. Because the polymer layer is thin enough for a consistent spinal line, stomach and back sleepers will benefit most.
Purple Hybrid should be used by back sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3: I gave this bed a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, and felt it had a true medium-firm feel. Combination sleepers who shift between different positions during the night as well as those with sciatica or lower back pain would benefit from this bed. It struck a really nice balance between pressure relief and support that I think could feel comfortable in most sleeping positions.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 can be used to combine sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 4 – I scored this bed at 6 out 10 on the mattress firmness rating scale. The soft mattress was very supportive and cradled all my pressure points. However, the bed didn’t feel like it was “stuck in” to me. I’d recommend this mattress to side sleepers or side combination sleepers. I think these folks will really appreciate the pressure-relieving feel of this mattress.
Side sleepers will like the Purple Hybrid Premier 4
Before we wrap up, I would like to highlight the responsiveness and bounce of all three Purple Hybrids. These beds felt more like “on top” than “in”, and it was easy to switch positions during the night. These mattresses are among the best for combination sleepers. Purple Mattress And Box Spring
Are Purple Hybrids Good Mattresses For Light Sleepers (Under 130 Pounds)?
Light Back Sleepers- The Hybrid Premier 3 will work well for light back sleepers. This hybrid should provide pressure relief in the lumbar regions and be supportive for people who are lighter. Either of the other hybrids could also work for these sleepers.
Light Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is the right choice for these sleepers. It offers great pressure relief, which is important for side sleepers.
Light Stomach Sleepers- These people should stick with the original Purple Hybrid. It will keep their hips in line with their shoulders. Purple Mattress And Box Spring
Are the Purple Hybrids Good Mattresses for Average Weight Sleepers (130 – 250 lb)?
Average Weight Back sleepers – The Hybrid Premier 3 is the perfect choice because it combines pressure relief with support. It is ideal for people who move between sleeping positions at night.
Side sleepers who are average in weight – the Premier 4 is the best option for these sleepers. The thick layer of hyperelastic polymer on the top allows for plenty of pressure relief at the shoulders, hips, and hips.
Average Weight Stomach Sleepers — The original Purple Hybrid should offer enough support to keep these people’s spines in a straight line. Purple Mattress And Box Spring
Are Purple Hybrids the Best Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250lb).
Heavy Back Sleepers – I would recommend this sleeper stick to the Premier 3 which is thick enough that it will last, but doesn’t feel too soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers-The Premier 4 is a great choice for those who are heavy sleepers. Its thick grid layers provide plenty of room for sinkage while its soft feel should be very comfortable.
Heavy Stomach Sleepers: I would not recommend these beds to heavy stomachs sleepers. They need a firmer mattress to give them optimal support. It might be better to choose one of our top-rated mattresses for heavy persons. Purple Mattress And Box Spring
Purple Hybrids Pain Relief
Pressure relief is closely related to pain relief. It is an indicator of how well a mattress can ease tension at the shoulders and hips. To test for this, I like to use a pressure map.
It sounds complicated but it’s really quite easy. All I have to do is roll the gadget out and get on board. The map does the rest. The device tracks the force my body exerts on the surface of the map as I move, and then creates a colored map showing the pressure. Blue areas indicate low pressure, while red areas indicate high pressure.
The Purple Hybrids offer pressure relief.
Back Pain Based purely on these pressure maps, the original Purple Hybrid was found to be the best mattress for those with back problems. The map is bright blue throughout, but does not gape around the lower spine like the Premier 3 & 4 maps. This shows me that the original Hybrid is keeping me evenly supported in my weight which is crucial for avoiding back discomfort.
Shoulder Pain According to these results, these beds are excellent choices for people suffering from shoulder pain. These beds should be able to cushion the shoulders and relieve pressure.
Hip Pain The Premier 4 is the clear winner for folks with hip pain. Its pressure map is almost completely blue, which tells me sensitive hip joints will be cradled throughout the night. Purple Mattress And Box Spring
Purple Hybrid Mattress Performances For Couples
Couples will often choose beds that have good edge support, isolate motion transfer and are responsive enough to sex. Check out the Purple Hybrids to find out how they stack up in these areas.
Motion transfer refers to the amount of movement that can be detected from one side of a bed to the next. This is an important factor for all sleepers, but especially for couples or folks who share a bed with a child or furry best friend.
I dropped a 10-lb steel ball at heights of 4″, 8″ and 12 inches to illustrate motion transfer. The disturbance it caused was measured: the larger the lines, the greater the disturbance.
Motion transfer results from Purple Hybrids.
Given the bounce of these mattresses, it is not surprising to find that they do not offer motion isolation. I think this means you might feel movement across the three mattresses. Purple Mattress And Box Spring
The best mattress for sex is one that has enough bounce and motion isolation to allow you to move easily.
My personal opinion is that the Purple Hybrids can be a little too buoyant to share with light sleepers.
Their mobility and lift could make them a great choice for you if your sleep is disturbed at night.
The Purple Hybrids all have incredible cooling properties.
These beds are great for hot sleepers. These beds are also great for cooling down.
This is great news especially for couples, as they tend to heat up faster than solo sleepers. Purple Mattress And Box Spring
Edge support measures whether you can sleep on your side and still feel supported. Edge support can make your mattress seem larger, as you can spread across its entire surface.
All three Purple mattress had good edge support. I could feel the Purple grid layer shrink under my body weight, but the foam below and coils were firm and supportive.
Personally, I thought that the Purple Premier 3 had some of the best edge support. Purple Mattress And Box Spring
What are Purple Hybrids Made Of?
Let’s next look at what these beds are made out of. I’m sure most of you want to learn more about that special Purple Grid layer. This grid is the stretchy layer of purple that gives Purple mattresses their unique feeling.
Below you will find detailed descriptions of the grid as well the other layers. All Purple Hybrids are made the same. Only the length of each Purple Grid used by each bed is different.
Cover All these mattresses come with a waterproof and stretchy polyester-blend mattress cover.
Comfort Layer Located directly below the cover, you will find the hyper-elastic smart comfort grid made of polymer smart. This grid is supportive, bouncy and extremely cooling. While it’s kind of hard to describe how this polymer material feels, I’d liken it to a water bed in that it cradles your body as you move. The original purple Hybrid used 2 inches of Grid, while the Hybrid Premier 3 and Hybrid Premier 4 use 3 inches and 4 respectively. The mattress will feel less pressure-relieving, the larger the grid.
The Purple Grid.
Transition Layer Next you’ll find a layer poly foam. This layer of transition foam helps to ease the sleeper through the soft top grid into the more robust pocketed coil system.
Support Layer: The bulk of Hybrid Premier or Hybrid Premier mattresses consists of a section made of pocketed coils. These springs are very bouncy and help lift the sleeping person up and out of their structure. These beds will make you feel “on top”, as the pocketsed coils and polymer grid create a lot of buoyancy.

Purple Hybrids Unboxing, Off-Gassing
The Purple Hybrids are all bed-in-a-box mattresses, but they actually come in bags instead of boxes! Purple includes complimentary white glove delivery when you order the Hybrid Premier models. Although the original Purple Hybrid is easier to lift, I recommend that you have a friend to help with unbagging it. The best thing about these mattresses is their lack of strong off-gassing smells compared to other bed in a box models. The scent should disappear within a few hours.
Let’s now get to the final thoughts about Purple Hybrid Mattresses. After going over every possible detail I could think of, it’s now time to decide if one of these mattresses is right for you. And though I can’t make that decision for you, I can leave you with a few final thoughts to help you get there on your own.
Purple Hybrid is one of my favorite mattresses
The Purple Hybrids are so cool! These beds don’t trap any body heat so they should make most hot sleepers very happy. I love the responsiveness of Purple Hybrids. These beds can be used by both single and double sleepers.
I love the feeling of the Purple Grid. It helps you achieve a healthy spine alignment while still feeling incredible in pressure relieving. It is especially effective when you opt for one of the thicker models. The Purple is an excellent choice for those who want to experience a more distinctive feel. Purple Mattress And Box Spring
My Purple Hybrid mattress complaints
Purple mattresses do not have the best motion isolation. While this isn’t a dealbreaker, if you’re really easily disturbed at night you might want to opt for a more traditional memory foam mattress, which will do a better job absorbing motion.
I do also want to note that a few customers have complained about the original Purple mattress sagging and forming indentations. The Purple Hybrids are more durable due to the innerspring coil layers. However, heavier people might prefer a different mattress. For a longer life, make sure you put the Purple bed on a solid platform. Purple Mattress And Box Spring

Purple Hybrids Vs.
Let’s take a deeper look at the Purple Hybrid Premier and Purple Hybrid Premier mattresses. Now let’s compare them to other models on the internet.
Purple Hybrids vs Leesa Hybrid
The Leesa Hybrid, like the Purple Hybrids has foam layers and pocketed coils to provide pressure relief and support.
But it is more traditional than any Purple bed, so it could work for those who aren’t sold on Purple’s unique feel.
I would recommend the Leesa Hybrid for couples and back sleepers.
Purple Hybrids vs Casper Hybrid
Casper’s zoned support is unlike the Purples. It is firmer at the hips and softer at the shoulders, providing optimal lumbar support.
Purples are a bit more bouncier that the Casper Hybrids. This is something combination sleepers may like.
The Purple 3 & Purple 4 relieve a little less pressure than the Casper Hybrid. Purple Mattress And Box Spring
Purple Hybrids and Original Purple
The Original Purple mattress’s support layers are made of high-density Poly foam, and not pocketed coils.
The Original Purple is supportive and firm. This feeling might be particularly appealing to those who sleep in combination.
The Original Purple mattress can be used in conjunction with the Purple Hybrids to cool down.
The Original Purple costs less than either Purple Hybrid Premier (or Purple Hybrid Premier).
