In this review we will look at the Purple Hybrid Premier as well as the Purple Hybrid Premier. These beds include the company’s famous Hyper-Elastic Polymer Purple grid and springy layers of pocketsed coils. The specs sound fascinating, but is this bed comfortable? Purple Mattress Ad
To find out, I gave these mattresses a thorough review, assessing how they’re built, how they feel, and how well they support certain sleepers.

Is a Purple Hybrid a Good Mattress for You?
Purple was founded 2015 and has been a household name ever since. Its innovative products and cheeky advertisements have helped make Purple a popular brand in the bedding market. It sells three different hybrid mattresses, the Purple Hybrid, the Purple Hybrid Premier 3, and Purple Hybrid Premier 4. The only thing that differs between these beds are the amounts of Purple’s unique grid layer. The Premier 3 uses 3 inches, the Premier 3 uses 3 inches, and the Premier 4 uses 4 inches. 4 inches
These beds provide different levels of pressure relief but feel very similar. Below is a list of who each model may be best suited for.

Who I recommend a Purple Hybrid for
For back sleepers who prefer a firmer feeling, the Purple Hybrid is the best choice. Those who need a little more pressure relief may choose the Purple Premier.
The Purple Premier 4 is a great option for side sleepers, as it provides a lot of cushioning around pressure points.
Stomach-sleepers will enjoy the support of the original Purple Hybrid.
Hot sleepers should appreciate how cooling each of these mattresses are.
Combination sleepers should enjoy the bouncy feel of these beds! Purple Mattress Ad
Who I don’t recommend a Purple Hybrid for
Purple mattresses might not appeal to couples.
Their buoyancy makes it easy to imagine your partner tossing about at night.
One of our best memory foam mattresses might be a better fit if you’re easily disturbed at night. Purple Mattress Ad
How Firm are the Purple Hybrid Mattresses?
Let’s next look at how these bed/in-a-box hybrids actually felt. Below I will describe how it felt to sleep on each of the Purple Hybrid models. Remember that feelings are subjective and may vary depending on how you sleep. Referring to the above, I am approximately 5’9″ and weigh 125 lbs.
As you will see in the graphic, I found that each mattress had its own feel.
Purple Hybrids are ranked on the mattress firmness scale.
Purple Hybrid: This mattress was quite firm so I gave it a 7 on the mattress firmness scale. This mattress’s support is superior to the industry average of 6.5 for medium firmness. This mattress is best for stomach and back sleepers, since the polymer layer of the polymer is thin enough that it can support a straight spine from hips to shoulders.
Purple Hybrids are great for back sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier3 : I gave the bed a 6.5 rating on the firmness scale. It had a medium-firm feel. This bed is recommended for combination sleepers who need to move around in the night. It also suits those who suffer from lower back pain and are looking for a mattress that can help with sciatica. It was able to provide pressure relief as well as support so that you can feel at ease in any of your sleeping positions.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 can be used to combine sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 4 – I scored this bed at 6 out 10 on the mattress firmness rating scale. This soft mattress supported my pressure points well and provided a good amount of sinkage. But, I still didn’t feel “stuck-in” the bed. This mattress would be a good choice for side or combination sleepers. This mattress is great for relieving pressure.
Side sleepers will like the Purple Hybrid Premier 4
Before I wrap up this section, I wanted to mention that all three Purple Hybrids had a responsive, bouncy feel. These beds made me feel more “on top” of them than “in” them. It was also easy to move around at night. These are, in fact, some of the most comfortable mattresses available for combination sleepers. Purple Mattress Ad
Are Purple Hybrids Good for Light Sleepers (under 130lb)?
Light Back Sleepers: The Hybrid Premier 3 should be suitable for light-weight back sleepers. It will fill in the lumbar region for good pressure relief. Either of the other hybrids could also work for these sleepers.
The Premier 4 is a great option for light side sleepers. It offers great pressure relief, which is important for side sleepers.
Light Stomach Sleepers- These people should stick with the original Purple Hybrid. It will keep their hips in line with their shoulders. Purple Mattress Ad
Are Purple Hybrids good mattresses for average weight sleepers (130-250 lb)
Average Weight Back Sleepers: The Hybrid Premier 3 is great for those who are average weight. It combines pressure relief and support. It’s an especially nice choice if you move between positions at night.
Average Weight Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is the best pick for these sleepers. Its top layer of hyperelasticity polymer is thick enough to allow for pressure relief at hips and shoulders.
Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – The original Purple Hybrid should be supportive enough to keep these folks’ spines in a neutral straight line. Purple Mattress Ad
Are Purple Hybrids suitable for heavy sleepers (over 250lb).
Heavy Back Sleepers–I recommend these sleepers stick the Premier 3 because it is thick enough to last but not soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers: The Premier 4 is a good choice for heavy side-sleepers. These people will find the Premier 4 comfortable due to its thick grid layer that allows for lots of sinkage.
Heavy Stomach Sleepers: I would not recommend these beds to heavy stomachs sleepers. They need a firmer mattress to give them optimal support. One of our best mattresses for heavy people could be a better fit. Purple Mattress Ad
Purple Hybrids Pain Relief Performance
Pressure relief is closely related to pain relief. It is an indicator of how well a mattress can ease tension at the shoulders and hips. I use a pressure map to check for this.
It sounds complicated but it’s really quite easy. All I have to do is roll the gadget out and get on board. The map does the rest. As I move around the bed, the gadget records the force my body’s exerting on the map, and makes a colored “map” of the pressure. Blue zones indicate areas of low pressure, and red areas of high.
Pressure relief is one of the benefits of Purple Hybrids.
Back Pain Based on these pressure map results, the original Purple Hybrid is the best fit for sleepers with back pain. The map is uniformly blue, but it doesn’t show any gaps around the lower back as the Premier 3 and 4 maps. This means that the original Hybrid is supporting my weight evenly, which is key to avoiding back problems.
Shoulder Pain Based upon these results, all three beds are great choices for those suffering from shoulder pain. To relieve pressure they should do a good job cushioning the shoulder.
Hip Pain the Premier 4 is the winner for hip pain sufferers. Its pressure map appears almost entirely blue, which indicates that it will be used to cradle sensitive hip joints throughout the night. Purple Mattress Ad
Purple Hybrid Mattress Performance for Couples
Couples often prefer beds that isolate motion transfer, are responsive enough for sex, are cooling, and feature good edge support. Check out the Purple Hybrids to find out how they stack up in these areas.
Motion transfer describes the movement from one side or the other of the bed. This is important for all sleepers but especially for couples who share a bedroom with a child, furry friend, or other people.
I dropped a 10-lb steel ball at heights of 4″, 8″ and 12 inches to illustrate motion transfer. The disturbance it caused was measured: the larger the lines, the greater the disturbance.
The Purple Hybrids motion transfer results.
These mattresses are so bouncy that I am not surprised they offer little motion isolation. I think this means you might feel movement across the three mattresses. Purple Mattress Ad
A good mattress for sex should have enough bounce and motion isolation to be comfortable to move about on.
My personal opinion is that the Purple Hybrids can be a little too buoyant to share with light sleepers.
But if you’re not easily disturbed at night, they could be nice options for sex thanks to their lift and mobility.
All Purple Hybrids are extremely cool.
All of these beds will be comfortable for hot sleepers. They’re also one of the most cool mattresses that you’ll find.
This is great news to couples who overheat more quickly than those who sleep alone. Purple Mattress Ad
Edge support refers to your ability to lie on one side or the other of your bed while still feeling supported. Great edge support can make your mattress feel a bit bigger, since you can spread out across its entire surface.
All three Purple mattresses I tested had excellent edge support. I could feel the Purple grid layer begin to compress under my weight but the foam and coils below were firm and supportive.
Personally, I found the Purple Premier 3 to have the best edge support. Purple Mattress Ad
What are the Purple Hybrids Made of?
Let’s find out what these beds look like! I know most people want to know more information about the Purple Grid layer. This grid is the stretchy layer of purple that gives Purple mattresses their unique feeling.
Below is a detailed description of the grid and all other layers of the mattress. All Purple Hybrids are made the same. The only difference between the Purple Grids used in each bed is the number of inches.
All mattresses have a cover made of a stretchy, breathable polyester blend.
Comfort Layer The hyper-elastic comfort grid is located below the cover. This grid is supportive, bouncy and extremely cooling. While it’s kind of hard to describe how this polymer material feels, I’d liken it to a water bed in that it cradles your body as you move. The original purple Hybrid used 2 inches of Grid, while the Hybrid Premier 3 and Hybrid Premier 4 use 3 inches and 4 respectively. The more grid there is, the more pressure-relieving the mattress feels.
The Purple Grid.
Transition Layer Next up, you’ll land on a layer of poly foam. This transition foam is used to help the sleeper get through the soft top grid, and on to the stronger pocketed coils system below.
Support Layer: The bulk of Hybrid Premier or Hybrid Premier mattresses consists of a section made of pocketed coils. These springs, which are very buoyant, help to lift the sleeper higher and further out of the structure. In general, you’ll likely feel more “on top” of these beds as the polymer grid and pocketed coils produce a ton of buoyancy.

Purple Hybrids Unboxing And Off-Gassing
Purple Hybrids all come in a box, but are actually packaged in bags! Purple offers complimentary white glove delivery for Hybrid Premier models. These beds are heavy. The original Purple Hybrid isn’t as hard to lift, but I’d still recommend having a friend nearby to help you unbag it. The best thing about these mattresses is their lack of strong off-gassing smells compared to other bed in a box models. Any scent should dissipate within a few hours.
The Final Thoughts on Purple Hybrid Mattresses. We’re now at the end. It’s time for you to decide if these mattresses are right for your needs. And though I can’t make that decision for you, I can leave you with a few final thoughts to help you get there on your own.
My favorite things about the Purple Hybrid mattresses
I really love how cooling all of the Purple Hybrids are. They don’t trap much body heat at all, so I think most hot sleepers out there should be very happy on these beds! I love the responsiveness of Purple Hybrids. These beds are great for couples who want to change their positions.
The Purple Grid’s feel is great. It does a great job of helping you achieve a healthy spinal alignment, but still feels incredible pressure relieving. Especially when you choose one of the thicker models. The Purple is a great choice if you want to try a different feel. Purple Mattress Ad
My Purple Hybrid mattresses complaints
Purple mattresses do not have the best motion isolation. Even though this isn’t an issue, if you are sensitive to motion, a traditional memory mattress might be a better choice.
A few customers complained that the Purple mattress was sagging and creating indentations. I think the Purple Hybrids will be a bit more durable thanks to their innerspring coil layers, but heavier folks especially might want to opt for a different mattress if this is a concern. If you decide to purchase any Purple bed, ensure you place it on a solid platform, not a box spring, and rotate it 180 degrees every few months to increase its lifespan. Purple Mattress Ad

Purple Hybrid Premier 3 and Purple Hybrid Premier 3 have layers of 2-inch grid, 3-inch grid, and 4 inch grid, respectively.
Where are Purple mattresses made?
Purple mattresses are made in the USA.
Can I use a boxspring with Purple Hybrid mattresses
Purple doesn’t recommend that you use a box spring in conjunction with any of your beds.
These experts recommend using a solid platform, slatted or adjustable bed frame.
Purple Hybrid vs.
Let’s take an in-depth look at Purple Hybrid Premier mattress and Purple Hybrid Premier mattress.
Purple Hybrids vs Leesa Hybrid
The Leesa Hybrid is similar to the Purple Hybrids and combines foam layers with pocketed coils for support and pressure relief.
But it is more traditional than any Purple bed, so it could work for those who aren’t sold on Purple’s unique feel.
I would recommend the Leesa Hybrid for couples and back sleepers.
Purple Hybrids vs Casper Hybrid
Unlike the Purples, the Casper features zoned support, meaning it’s firmer at the hips and softer at the shoulders to offer optimal lumbar support.
Purples are a bit more bouncier that the Casper Hybrids. This is something combination sleepers may like.
The Purple 3 or Purple 4 can be a bit more effective than the Casper Hybrid. Purple Mattress Ad
Purple Hybrids Vs. Original Purple
The Original Purple mattress’s support layers are made of high-density Poly foam, and not pocketed coils.
The Original Purple is supportive and firm. This feeling might be particularly appealing to those who sleep in combination.
The Original Purple mattress is similar to the Purple Hybrids and can be very cooling.
The Original Purple is much cheaper than either Purple Hybrid Premier and Purple Hybrid Premier.
