How Firm are Purple Hybrid mattresses?
Next, let us get into how these bed in a box hybrids feel. Below, I’ll go over what it felt like to sleep on all three of the Purple Hybrid models. Keep in mind that feel is subjective, and can change depending on your body type and preferred sleep position. Referring to the above, I am approximately 5’9″ and weigh 125 lbs.

Purple Hybrid Premier3 : I gave the bed a 6.5 rating on the firmness scale. It had a medium-firm feel. This mattress is ideal for combination sleepers. It provides pressure relief and support which can be adjusted to suit any sleeping position.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 could feel great for couples who are looking to sleep together.
Purple Hybrid Premier 4, I gave this mattress a 6 on the mattress firmness scale. This soft mattress really cradled my pressure points and offered a nice amount of sinkage. I did not feel “stuck-in”, however. This mattress would be a good choice for side or combination sleepers. I think these folks will really appreciate the pressure-relieving feel of this mattress.
Side sleepers will enjoy the Purple Hybrid Premier 4
Before we close this section, I’d like to point out that all three Purple Hybrids have a buoyant, responsive feel. Are Purple Hybrids good for light sleepers (under 130 lb)
Light Back Sleepers- The Hybrid Premier 3 will work well for light back sleepers. This hybrid should provide pressure relief in the lumbar regions and be supportive for people who are lighter. Either of the other hybrids could also work for these sleepers.
Light Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is the way to go for these sleepers as well. It offers great pressure relief, which is important for side sleepers.

Are Purple Hybrids good mattresses for average weight sleepers (130-250 lb)
Average Weight Back sleepers – The Hybrid Premier 3 is the perfect choice because it combines pressure relief with support. This is a great choice for those who need to change positions during the night.
Side sleepers of average weight – The Premier 4 is the best choice for these sleepers. The Premier 4’s thick top layer is made of hyper-elastic plastic and provides pressure relief at the hips and shoulders.

Are Purple Hybrids the Best Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250lb).
Heavy Back Sleepers — I would suggest these sleepers stick to Premier 3, which is thick and durable but not overly soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers — The Premier 4 can be a great option for heavy side sleepers. This mattress’ thick grid provides ample space for sinkage. Its soft feel should also be suitable for those with sensitive skin.

Purple Hybrids Pain Relief Performance
Pain relief is closely tied to pressure relief, which is a measure of how well a bed is able to alleviate tension at the shoulders, hips, and lower back. To check this, I use a Pressure Map.
Though it sounds complicated, it’s actually quite simple: I roll this gizmo out, hop aboard, and let the map do the rest! The device tracks the force my body exerts on the surface of the map as I move, and then creates a colored map showing the pressure. Blue signifies low pressure areas, and red the high pressure areas.

Back Pain Based on these pressure map results, the original Purple Hybrid is the best fit for sleepers with back pain. The map is bright blue throughout, but does not gape around the lower spine like the Premier 3 & 4 maps. This means that the original Hybrid is supporting my weight evenly, which is key to avoiding back problems.
Shoulder Pain Based upon these results, all three beds are great choices for those suffering from shoulder pain. To alleviate pressure, they should do a great job of cushioning the shoulder region.

Purple Hybrid Mattress Performance For Couples

What this tells me is that you’re likely to feel movement across all three mattresses, which means they may not be the best fit for couples, especially if one partner is easily disturbed at night. A good mattress for sex should have enough bounce and motion isolation to be comfortable to move about on.
Personally, I think the Purple Hybrids are a bit too bouncy to share if you’re a light sleeper.
But if you’re not easily disturbed at night, they could be nice options for sex thanks to their lift and mobility.
Cooling
All of the Purple Hybrids are incredibly cooling.
Any of these beds is suitable for hot sleepers. I would also say that they are some of the most cooling mattresses available.

Edge Support
Edge support is a measure of whether or not you’ll be able to sleep all the way on the side of your bed and still feel supported. Because you can spread your weight across the entire mattress, great edge support can make your mattress feel larger.
All three Purple mattress had good edge support. I could feel the Purple grid layer begin to compress under my weight but the foam and coils below were firm and supportive.

What are the Purple Hybrids Made of?
Let’s now get to the bottom of what these beds are made from! I’m sure most of you want to learn more about that special Purple Grid layer. This is the stretchy purple top layer that gives Purple mattresses their unique feel.
Below, I will detail the grid and the various mattress layers. It is important to remember that all Purple Hybrids have the exact same construction. The only difference between the Purple Grids used in each bed is the number of inches.
Cover All these mattresses come with a waterproof and stretchy polyester-blend mattress cover.
Comfort Layer Below the cover you’ll find the hyper elastic polymer smart comfort layer. This grid is extremely cooling, buoyant, and supportive. Although it is hard to describe how the polymer material feels, I liken it as a water bed. It supports and cradles you body as you move. The original purple Hybrid used 2 inches of Grid, while the Hybrid Premier 3 and Hybrid Premier 4 use 3 inches and 4 respectively. The mattress will feel less pressure-relieving, the larger the grid.

The Transition Layer You’ll next find a layer made of poly foam. This layer of transition foam helps to ease the sleeper through the soft top grid into the more robust pocketed coil system.

These springs are very bouncy and help lift the sleeping person up and out of their structure. The Purple Grid’s feel is great. The Purple Grid is great for helping you maintain a healthy spine alignment. It also feels amazing in relieving pressure.
