We’ll be reviewing the Purple Hybrid Premier, and Purple Hybrid Premier beds. These beds are made with the company’s Hyper-Elastic Polymer Purple grid, plus layers of springy pocketsed coils. These beds sound intriguing, but I am not sure if they are comfortable. Purple 3 Queen Mattress Weight
To find out, these mattresses received a thorough review. I evaluated how they were constructed, how they feel and how they support specific sleepers.

Is a Purple Hybrid a good mattress?
Purple was founded 2015 and has been a household name ever since. Its innovative products and cheeky advertisements have helped make Purple a popular brand in the bedding market. It offers three hybrid mattresses, the Purple Hybrid Premier 3 (Purple Hybrid Premier 3), and the Purple Hybrid Premier 4 (Purple Hybrid Premier 4). There is only one difference between the beds: how much Purple’s grid layer is included in each. The Premier 3 uses 3 inches, the Premier 3 uses 3 inches, and the Premier 4 uses 4 inches. 4 inches
The beds are all different in terms of how much pressure they provide, but the overall experience is pretty similar. You can find out more about which model is best suited to you by taking a look at the table below.

Who I recommend a Purple Hybrid for
For back sleepers who prefer a firmer feeling, the Purple Hybrid is the best choice. Those who need a little more pressure relief may choose the Purple Premier.
Side sleepers may like the Purple Premier 4, as it offers great cushioning around sensitive pressure points.
Stomach sleepers will likely enjoy the supportive feel of the original Purple Hybrid.
These mattresses should be appreciated by hot sleepers.
These beds are great for couples who want to sleep together. Purple 3 Queen Mattress Weight
Who I don’t recommend a Purple Hybrid for
Purple mattresses might not be for couples.
You’ll likely feel a partner turning and tossing in the night because they’re so happy.
If you’re trouble sleeping at night, a memory foam mattress might be a better fit. Purple 3 Queen Mattress Weight
How Firm is the Purple Hybrid Mattresses
Let’s now get into the actual feeling of these bed-in a-box hybrids. Below I’ll share what it was like to lie down on any of the Purple Hybrid mattresses. Feelings are subjective and will vary depending on your body type and preferred sleeping position. Referring to my height, I am 5’9″ and 125 lbs. I prefer to sleep on my side.
As you can see in the graphic below, I actually thought all three mattresses had pretty distinct feels, so I’ll section them off below so you can get my full thoughts on each one.
Purple Hybrids on a mattress firmness rating scale.
Purple Hybrid. I found the Purple Hybrid mattress to be very firm and gave it a 7. This mattress will be more supportive than the industry standard of 6.5, which is for medium firmness. As the polymer layer on this mattress is thin enough to support a smooth spine, I believe stomach and back sleeping would be most benefited.
Back sleepers should enjoy the feel of the Purple Hybrid.
Purple Hybrid Premier3 : I gave the bed a 6.5 rating on the firmness scale. It had a medium-firm feel. This mattress is ideal for combination sleepers. It was able to provide pressure relief as well as support so that you can feel at ease in any of your sleeping positions.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 can be used to combine sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 4 – I scored this bed at 6 out 10 on the mattress firmness rating scale. This soft mattress truly supported my pressure points, and gave me a great amount of sinkage. However, the bed didn’t feel like it was “stuck in” to me. This mattress is recommended for side sleepers as well as side and combination sleepers. This mattress’ pressure relieving qualities will be appreciated by side sleepers and side combination sleepers.
Side sleepers will love the Purple Hybrid Premier 4.
Before we wrap this section up, I want to note that all three of the Purple Hybrids had a bouncy, responsive feel. These beds made me feel more “on top” of them than “in” them. It was also easy to move around at night. These mattresses are among the best for combination sleepers. Purple 3 Queen Mattress Weight
Are Purple Hybrids Good for Light Sleepers (under 130lb)?
Light Back Sleepers- The Hybrid Premier 3 will work well for light back sleepers. This hybrid should provide pressure relief in the lumbar regions and be supportive for people who are lighter. You could also try one of the other hybrids.
The Premier 4 is a great option for light side sleepers. It offers great pressure relief, which is important for side sleepers.
Light Stomach Sleepers- These people should stick with the original Purple Hybrid. It will keep their hips in line with their shoulders. Purple 3 Queen Mattress Weight
Are Purple Hybrids suitable for average-weight sleepers (130 – 250 lb), or are they not?
Average Weight Back sleepers – The Hybrid Premier 3 is the perfect choice because it combines pressure relief with support. It is ideal for people who move between sleeping positions at night.
Average Weight Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is a great choice for these people. The thick layer of hyperelastic polymer on the top allows for plenty of pressure relief at the shoulders, hips, and hips.
Average Weight Stomach Sleepers-The original Purple Hybrid should provide enough support to keep their spines straight. Purple 3 Queen Mattress Weight
Are Purple Hybrids good for heavy sleepers (over 250lb)?
Heavy Back Sleepers — I would suggest these sleepers stick to Premier 3, which is thick and durable but not overly soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers — The Premier 4 can be a great option for heavy side sleepers. These people will find the Premier 4 comfortable due to its thick grid layer that allows for lots of sinkage.
Heavy Stomach Sleepers: I would not recommend these beds to heavy stomachs sleepers. They need a firmer mattress to give them optimal support. A better choice for heavy people is one of our top mattresses. Purple 3 Queen Mattress Weight
Purple Hybrids Pain Relief
Pressure relief is closely related to pain relief. It is an indicator of how well a mattress can ease tension at the shoulders and hips. I use a pressure map to check for this.
Though it sounds complicated, it’s actually quite simple: I roll this gizmo out, hop aboard, and let the map do the rest! The gadget tracks my movements on the bed and generates a colored map of the pressure. Blue zones indicate areas of low pressure, and red areas of high.
Pressure relief is one of the benefits of Purple Hybrids.
Back Pain Based purely on these pressure maps, the original Purple Hybrid was found to be the best mattress for those with back problems. The map is uniformly blue, but it doesn’t show any gaps around the lower back as the Premier 3 and 4 maps. This is an indication that the original Hybrid is evenly supporting my weight, which is important for avoiding back pain.
Shoulder Pain Based upon these results, all three beds are great choices for those suffering from shoulder pain. They should do a nice job cushioning the shoulder area to relieve pressure.
Hip Pain is The Premier 4 for people with hip pain. Its pressure map appears almost entirely blue, which indicates that it will be used to cradle sensitive hip joints throughout the night. Purple 3 Queen Mattress Weight
Purple Hybrid Mattress Performances For Couples
Couples often prefer beds that isolate motion transfer, are responsive enough for sex, are cooling, and feature good edge support. Check out the Purple Hybrids to find out how they stack up in these areas.
Motion transfer refers to the amount of movement that can be detected from one side of a bed to the next. This is a crucial factor for any sleeper, but particularly for those who share a mattress with a child or furry pet friend.
To illustrate motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The motion transfer results of Purple Hybrids are impressive.
Considering how bouncy these mattresses are, I’m not that surprised to see they don’t offer great motion isolation. This means that you will feel movement throughout the three mattresses. Purple 3 Queen Mattress Weight
Best mattress for sex usually combines good motion isolation with enough bounce to make it easy to move around.
If you are light sleeper, the Purple Hybrids may be too bouncey for you to share.
If you don’t mind being disturbed at night, these guys could be great options for sex because of their mobility and lift.
All Purple Hybrids are extremely cool.
All of these beds will be comfortable for hot sleepers. These beds are also great for cooling down.
This is great news to couples who overheat more quickly than those who sleep alone. Purple 3 Queen Mattress Weight
Edge support refers to your ability to lie on one side or the other of your bed while still feeling supported. Your mattress will feel bigger if you have great edge support. You can spread your weight over the entire surface of your mattress.
I thought all three Purple mattresses had good edge support. The purple grid layer could compress under my weight, but I felt the foam and coils beneath it stay firm and supportive.
I personally thought that the Purple Premier 3 provided the best edge support. Purple 3 Queen Mattress Weight
What are Purple Hybrids Made from?
Let’s next look at what these beds are made out of. I’m sure you want to find out more about Purple Grid. This grid is the stretchy layer of purple that gives Purple mattresses their unique feeling.
Below you will find detailed descriptions of the grid as well the other layers. Recall that all Purple Hybrids can be assembled the same way. The only difference is how many inches of the Purple Grid each bed uses.
Cover All of these mattresses are covered with a breathable, stretchy polyester blend mattress protector.
Comfort Layer Located directly below the cover, you will find the hyper-elastic smart comfort grid made of polymer smart. This grid is extremely cooling, buoyant, and supportive. Although it is hard to describe how the polymer material feels, I liken it as a water bed. It supports and cradles you body as you move. The Hybrid Premier 3 Purple uses 3 Inches of Grid and the Hybrid Premier 4 4 Inches. The more grid there is, the more pressure-relieving the mattress feels.
A look at The Purple Grid.
Next is a layer of transition foam. The transition foam acts to allow the sleeper to move down through the soft grid and onto the firmer pocketed coil below.
Support Layer A section of pocketed coils makes up the bulk of the Hybrid Premier and Hybrid Premier mattresses. These springs, which are very buoyant, help to lift the sleeper higher and further out of the structure. Because of the buoyancy of the pocketsed coils and polymer grid, these beds are more comfortable than others.
Let’s take a look at some of the materials used to make the Purple Hybrid layers. Purple 3 Queen Mattress Weight
Purple Hybrids Unboxing & Off-Gassing
Purple Hybrids come in bags and are not boxed mattresses. Purple provides complimentary white glove delivery on Hybrid Premier models. They are extremely heavy. The original Purple Hybrid isn’t as hard to lift, but I’d still recommend having a friend nearby to help you unbag it. These mattresses are a great option because they don’t emit a strong scent like other bed-in a-box models. Any scent should dissipate within a few hours.
The Final Thoughts on Purple Hybrid Mattresses. We’re now at the end. It’s time for you to decide if these mattresses are right for your needs. Although I cannot make that decision for your, I can offer some suggestions to help you.
Purple Hybrid Mattresses: My favourite features
I am a huge fan of the Purple Hybrids’ cooling properties. They don’t trap body heat and should therefore be comfortable for most hot sleepers. I also love how responsive the Purple Hybrid model are. Combination sleepers won’t have any trouble changing positions on these beds.
I love the feeling of the Purple Grid. It’s great for helping with your spine alignment. However, it is also extremely pressure relieving. Particularly if you choose one the thicker versions. If you are willing to experiment with a more unique feel, I recommend the Purple. Purple 3 Queen Mattress Weight
My Purple Hybrid mattress complaints
The Purple mattresses aren’t the most motion-simpliant. While it isn’t a major problem, it might make you feel more awake at night.
However, I would like to point out that some customers were unhappy with the original Purple mattress’s tendency of sagging or forming indentations. Purple Hybrids should be more durable because of the innerspring coil layers. Heavy people might consider a different type of mattress if this is an issue. Place any Purple bed you purchase on a solid platform. Purple 3 Queen Mattress Weight

Purple Hybrid Vs.
Let’s have a look at Purple Hybrid Premier and Purple Hybrid Premier mattresses. Then let’s compare their performance to other mattress models that you can find online.
Purple Hybrids vs Leesa Hybrid
The Leesa Hybrids combine foam layers with pocketed coils to give you a double punch of support and pressure relief, just like the Purple Hybrids.
It does however have a more traditional feel to it than any Purple beds. So, this could work for those who aren’t keen on Purple’s unique feel.
I would recommend the Leesa Hybrid for couples and back sleepers.
Purple Hybrids vs Casper Hybrid
Casper’s zoned support is unlike the Purples. It is firmer at the hips and softer at the shoulders, providing optimal lumbar support.
The Purples are bouncier than the Casper Hybrid, which combination sleepers might appreciate.
The Purple 3 & Purple 4 relieve a little less pressure than the Casper Hybrid. Purple 3 Queen Mattress Weight
Purple Hybrids and Original Purple
Support layers for the Original Purple mattress are made from high-density foam and not pocketed coils.
The Original Purple is supportive and firm. Combination sleepers might particularly like this feel.
The Original Purple mattress, like the Purple Hybrids is extremely cooling. It could also be a good choice for people who sleep hot at night.
The Original Purple is cheaper than either the Purple Hybrid Premier, or Purple Hybrid Premier.
