In this review we will look at the Purple Hybrid Premier as well as the Purple Hybrid Premier. These beds feature the company’s iconic Hyper-Elastic Polymer Purple grid plus springy layers of pocketed coils. The specs sound fascinating, but is this bed comfortable? Nectar Mattress Vs Purple
These mattresses were reviewed in detail by me. I assessed how they felt, their construction, and whether they are supportive of certain types of sleepers.

Are Purple Hybrids a Good Mattress?
Purple was founded 2015 and has been a household name ever since. Its innovative products and cheeky advertisements have helped make Purple a popular brand in the bedding market. It sells three varieties of hybrid mattresses: the Purple Hybrid Premier 3 or Purple Hybrid Premier 4 and the Purple Hybrid Premier 3. The only difference is the amount of Purple’s special grid layer in each bed. The Premier 3 Hybrid has 2 inches, the Premier 3 3 inches and the Premier 4 4 inches. 4 inches
Although the pressure relief offered by these beds is different, they feel almost identical. You can find out more about which model is best suited to you by taking a look at the table below.

Who I recommend a Purple Hybrid for
The original Purple Hybrid is recommended for back sleepers who want a firmer feel, while the Purple Premier provides a bit more pressure relief.
Side sleepers may like the Purple Premier 4, as it offers great cushioning around sensitive pressure points.
Stomach sleepers will likely enjoy the supportive feel of the original Purple Hybrid.
These mattresses should be appreciated by hot sleepers.
These beds should be enjoyed by combination sleepers! Nectar Mattress Vs Purple
Who I don’t recommend a Purple Hybrid for
Purple mattresses might not be for couples.
They are so lively, it is likely that you will feel your partner turning and tossing at night.
If you’re trouble sleeping at night, a memory foam mattress might be a better fit. Nectar Mattress Vs Purple
How Firm is the Purple Hybrid Mattresses
Let’s next look at how these bed/in-a-box hybrids actually felt. Below is a detailed account of how I felt when I slept on the three Purple Hybrid models. Feelings are subjective and will vary depending on your body type and preferred sleeping position. Referring to the above, I am approximately 5’9″ and weigh 125 lbs.
You can see that I thought each of the three mattresses had a very distinct feel. I will break them down below to give you my thoughts.
Purple Hybrids on a mattress firmness rating scale.
Purple Hybrid: This mattress was quite firm so I gave it a 7 on the mattress firmness scale. It’s obvious that this mattress is more supportive than the industry-standard 6.5 for mediumfirmness. As the polymer layer on this mattress is thin enough to support a smooth spine, I believe stomach and back sleeping would be most benefited.
Back sleepers should enjoy the feel of the Purple Hybrid.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3: I gave this bed a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, and felt it had a true medium-firm feel. This mattress is ideal for combination sleepers. It provided pressure relief and support in a way that could be comfortable in all sleeping positions.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 may feel good for combination sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 4, I gave this mattress a 6 on the mattress firmness scale. The soft mattress was very supportive and cradled all my pressure points. But I didn’t feel “stuckin” the mattress. This mattress is recommended for side sleepers as well as side and combination sleepers. I believe these people will love the pressure-relieving comfort of this mattress.
Side sleepers should like the Purple Hybrid Premier 4.
Before I wrap up this section, I wanted to mention that all three Purple Hybrids had a responsive, bouncy feel. These beds made me feel more “on top” of them than “in” them. It was also easy to move around at night. In fact, I’d say these are some of the best mattresses for combination sleepers on the market. Nectar Mattress Vs Purple
Are Purple Hybrids Good Mattresses For Light Sleepers (Under 130 Pounds)?
Light Back Sleepers – I believe the Hybrid Premier 3 is an excellent choice for light back sleepers. It should fill in their lumbar areas for pressure relief and also provides plenty of support for those who are lighter. You could also try one of the other hybrids.
Light Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is the right choice for these sleepers. It provides great pressure relief which is essential for side sleepers.
Light Stomach-Sleepers – I recommend these people stick to the original Purple Hybrid. Their hips should be in line with their shoulders. Nectar Mattress Vs Purple
Are Purple Hybrids good mattresses for average weight sleepers (130-250 lb)
Average Weight Back sleepers – The Hybrid Premier 3 is the perfect choice because it combines pressure relief with support. If you need to move around at night, it’s a good option.
Side sleepers who are average in weight – the Premier 4 is the best option for these sleepers. The thick layer of hyperelastic polymer on the top allows for plenty of pressure relief at the shoulders, hips, and hips.
Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – The original Purple Hybrid should be supportive enough to keep these folks’ spines in a neutral straight line. Nectar Mattress Vs Purple
Are Purple Hybrids suitable for heavy sleepers (over 250lb).
Heavy Back Sleepers — I would suggest these sleepers stick to Premier 3, which is thick and durable but not overly soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers-The Premier 4 is a great choice for those who are heavy sleepers. These people will find the Premier 4 comfortable due to its thick grid layer that allows for lots of sinkage.
Heavy Stomach / Back Sleepers – I don’t recommend these mattresses to anyone with a heavy stomach. These people need to have optimal support and a firmer mattress. One of our best mattresses for heavy people could be a better fit. Nectar Mattress Vs Purple
Purple Hybrids Pain Relief
Pressure relief is closely related to pain relief. It is an indicator of how well a mattress can ease tension at the shoulders and hips. I use a pressure chart to verify this.
Though it sounds complicated, it’s actually quite simple: I roll this gizmo out, hop aboard, and let the map do the rest! The gadget records the force of my body on the map and gives me a colored “map”. Blue zones indicate areas of low pressure, and red areas of high.
The Purple Hybrids’ pressure relief results.
Back Pain Based upon these pressure map results the original Purple Hybrid mattress is the best for those suffering from back pain. The map is bright blue throughout, but does not gape around the lower spine like the Premier 3 & 4 maps. This indicates that the original Hybrid is maintaining my weight evenly supported. This is important in order to avoid back pain.
Shoulder Pain Based upon these results, all three beds are great choices for those suffering from shoulder pain. These beds should be able to cushion the shoulders and relieve pressure.
Hip Pain The Premier 4 is the clear winner if you suffer from hip pain. Its pressure map appears almost entirely blue, which indicates that it will be used to cradle sensitive hip joints throughout the night. Nectar Mattress Vs Purple
Purple Hybrid Mattress Performance for Couples
Couples like beds that do not transmit motion, are comfortable for sex, and have excellent edge support. Check out the Purple Hybrids to find out how they stack up in these areas.
Motion transfer is the amount of movement detectable from one side of the bed to the other. This is an important consideration for anyone who sleeps with a child or furry companion, but more so for couples.
I dropped a steel ball weighing 10 lbs from heights of 4, 8 and 12 inches. This was to demonstrate motion transfer.
Motion transfer is a result of the Purple Hybrids.
These mattresses are quite bouncy, so it’s not surprising they don’t offer much motion isolation. I think this means you might feel movement across the three mattresses. Nectar Mattress Vs Purple
A good mattress for sex should have enough bounce and motion isolation to be comfortable to move about on.
The Purple Hybrids seem a bit too soft to be shared if you aren’t a light sleeper.
But if you’re not easily disturbed at night, they could be nice options for sex thanks to their lift and mobility.
All Purple Hybrids offer incredible cooling.
Hot sleepers should be happy on any of these beds. I would also say that they are some of the most cooling mattresses available.
This is great news especially for couples, as they tend to heat up faster than solo sleepers. Nectar Mattress Vs Purple
Edge support measures whether you can sleep on your side and still feel supported. A mattress with great edge support will feel larger because you can spread it across its entire surface.
All three Purple mattresses provided good edge support. Although I could feel the purple grid layer compressing under my weight the foam and coils underneath remained firm and supportive.
Personally, I found the Purple Premier 3 to have the best edge support. Nectar Mattress Vs Purple
What is the Purple Hybrid?
Let’s find out what these beds look like! You will be interested to learn more about the Purple Grid Layer. This grid is the stretchy, purple top layer that gives the Purple mattresses their unique feel.
Below I’ll detail the grid as well as all of the mattress layers. Recall that all Purple Hybrids can be assembled the same way. The only difference is the amount of Purple Grid each bed uses.
Cover All of these mattresses are covered with a breathable, stretchy polyester blend mattress protector.
Comfort Layer Directly below the cover is where you’ll encounter the hyper-elastic polymer smart comfort grid. This grid is very cooling and supportive. It’s hard to describe the feeling of this polymer material. I would liken it to an incredibly soft water bed. It cradles your body while you move. The Hybrid Premier 3 Purple uses 3 Inches of Grid and the Hybrid Premier 4 4 Inches. The more grid you have, the more comfortable the mattress is.
A look at the Purple Grid.
The Transition Layer You’ll next find a layer made of poly foam. This transition foam allows the sleeper to slide through the soft top grid onto the more solid pocketed coil system.
Support Layer: The bulk of Hybrid Premier or Hybrid Premier mattresses consists of a section made of pocketed coils. These springs, which are very buoyant, help to lift the sleeper higher and further out of the structure. As the bed’s polymer grid and pocketsed coils create buoyancy, you will likely feel more “ontop” of them.

Purple Hybrids Unboxing & Off-Gassing
Purple Hybrids can be described as all-bed-in a-box mattresses but come in bags. The Hybrid Premier models are very heavy, so Purple throws in complimentary white glove delivery with those beds. Although the original Purple Hybrid mattress is easier to unbag, I recommend having someone to help. This mattress is not as strong in off-gassing as other bed-ina-box mattresses. Any scent should disappear in a matter of hours.
My Final Thoughts about Purple Hybrid Mattresses Well folks, we’ve arrived at the end of the review. Now, you can decide if one or more of these mattresses are the right fit for you. And though I can’t make that decision for you, I can leave you with a few final thoughts to help you get there on your own.
Purple Hybrid mattress are my favorite.
The Purple Hybrids are extremely cooling. They don’t trap much body heat at all, so I think most hot sleepers out there should be very happy on these beds! I also like how responsive the Purple Hybrid models are. These beds will be easy to adjust for combination sleepers.
Finally, I really like the feel of the Purple Grid. It helps you achieve a healthy spine alignment while still feeling incredible in pressure relieving. Especially when you choose one of the thicker models. The Purple is an excellent choice for those who want to experience a more distinctive feel. Nectar Mattress Vs Purple
My Purple Hybrid mattresses complaints
Purple mattresses may not offer the best motion isolation. Even though this isn’t an issue, if you are sensitive to motion, a traditional memory mattress might be a better choice.
I also wanted to mention that some customers complained about the Purple mattress’s tendency to sag and form indentations. The Purple Hybrids are more durable due to the innerspring coil layers. However, heavier people might prefer a different mattress. You should place any Purple bed on a sturdy platform. Nectar Mattress Vs Purple

The Leesa Hybrids are similar to the Purple Hybrids. It combines foam layers, pocketed coils and support for one-two pressure relief.
