We’ll be reviewing the Purple Hybrid Premier, and Purple Hybrid Premier beds. These beds include the company’s famous Hyper-Elastic Polymer Purple grid and springy layers of pocketsed coils. Although the specifications sound interesting, I have to admit that these beds are not comfortable. Mattress Reviews Purple
To find out, I reviewed these mattresses in depth. I assessed their build quality, comfort, and support for certain types of sleepers.

Are Purple Hybrids Good for You?
Purple was established in 2015 and has grown to be one of the most well-known bedding brands. This is due to its cheeky advertising and innovative products. It offers three hybrid mattresses, the Purple Hybrid Premier 3 (Purple Hybrid Premier 3), and the Purple Hybrid Premier 4 (Purple Hybrid Premier 4). Only the difference between these mattresses is the amount of Purple’s special grid-layer included in each. The Premier 3 Hybrid has 2 inches, the Premier 3 3 inches and the Premier 4 4 inches. 4 inches
Although the pressure relief offered by these beds is different, they feel almost identical. You can find out more about which model is best suited to you by taking a look at the table below.

Who I recommend a Purple Hybrid for
Back sleepers who like a firmer feel should like the original Purple Hybrid, and those who like a bit more pressure relief might prefer the Purple Premier 3.
The Purple Premier 4 is a great option for side sleepers, as it provides a lot of cushioning around pressure points.
Stomach sleepers are likely to enjoy the supportive feeling that the original Purple Hybrid offers.
Hot sleepers should appreciate how cooling each of these mattresses are.
Combination sleepers should enjoy the bouncy feel of these beds! Mattress Reviews Purple
Who I don’t recommend a Purple Hybrid for
Purple mattresses are not for everyone.
Because they are so buoyant, you might feel your partner tossing around at night.
If you are easily disturbed at night, one of our memory foam mattresses may be better suited. Mattress Reviews Purple
How Firm are Purple Hybrid mattresses?
Next, let us get into how these bed in a box hybrids feel. Below I will describe how it felt to sleep on each of the Purple Hybrid models. You should keep in mind that the feeling of sleep is subjective and can vary depending on your preferences and body type. For example, I’m 5’9″, approximately 125 lbs., and prefer sleeping on my side.
As you can see, all three of my mattresses felt very different to me.
The Purple Hybrids on the mattress firmness scale.
Purple Hybrid: This mattress was quite firm so I gave it a 7 on the mattress firmness scale. This mattress has a firmer feel than the industry norm of 6.5 for medium-firmness. This mattress is best for stomach and back sleepers, since the polymer layer of the polymer is thin enough that it can support a straight spine from hips to shoulders.
Back sleepers should enjoy the feel of the Purple Hybrid.
Purple Hybrid Premier3: I gave this mattress a 6.5 on the firmness scale and it felt true to medium-firm. Combination sleepers, who frequently shift between positions throughout the night, and those with lower back pain or seeking a mattress to support sciatica, will love this bed. It provides pressure relief and support which can be adjusted to suit any sleeping position.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 can be used to combine sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier #4: I gave it a 6 out 10. This soft mattress really supported my pressure points and allowed for a lot of sinkage. But I didn’t feel “stuckin” the mattress. This mattress is recommended for side sleepers as well as side and combination sleepers. This mattress’ pressure relieving qualities will be appreciated by side sleepers and side combination sleepers.
Side sleepers should like the Purple Hybrid Premier 4.
Before we wrap up, I would like to highlight the responsiveness and bounce of all three Purple Hybrids. These beds felt like I was more “on top of” the bed than “in it”. It was very easy to shift positions at night. These are my top picks for combination sleepers. Mattress Reviews Purple
Are Purple Hybrids Good Mattresses For Light Sleepers (Under 130 Pounds)?
Light Back Sleepers: The Hybrid Premier 3 should be suitable for light-weight back sleepers. It will fill in the lumbar region for good pressure relief. These sleepers could also benefit from any of the hybrids.
Light Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is the right choice for these sleepers. It provides great pressure relief which is essential for side sleepers.
Light Stomach sleepers – I would recommend they stick to the original Purple Hybrid. They should have their hips aligned with each other. Mattress Reviews Purple
Are Purple Hybrids good mattresses for average weight sleepers (130-250 lb)
Average Weight Back sleepers – The Hybrid Premier 3 is the perfect choice because it combines pressure relief with support. It is ideal for people who move between sleeping positions at night.
Average Weight Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is a great choice for these people. Its thick, top layer of hyper elastic polymer gives you plenty of pressure relief at your hips and shoulders.
Average Weight Stomach sleepers – The original Purple Hybrid should support these people’s spines. Mattress Reviews Purple
Are Purple Hybrids good for heavy sleepers (over 250lb)?
Heavy Back Sleepers – I’d recommend these sleepers stick to the Premier 3, which is thick enough to be durable, but won’t feel overly soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is an excellent choice for heavy side sleepers. Its thick grid layer provides plenty of space for sinkage, and its soft feel should be comfortable for these folks.
Heavy Stomach Sleepers – I wouldn’t recommend any of these beds to heavy stomach sleepers, who need a firmer mattress to provide optimal support. One of our best mattresses for heavy people could be a better fit. Mattress Reviews Purple
Purple Hybrids Pain Relief Performance
Pressure relief is closely linked to pain relief. This is the measure of how well a bed can relieve tension at the hips, shoulders, and lower back. To test for this, I like to use a pressure map.
Although it sounds complex, it’s actually quite straightforward. I simply roll this device out, get on, and the map will do the rest. The gadget records the force of my body on the map and gives me a colored “map”. Blue areas indicate low pressure, while red areas indicate high pressure.
The Purple Hybrids offer pressure relief.
Back Pain Based on these pressure map results, the original Purple Hybrid is the best fit for sleepers with back pain. Blue across the board, but not around the lower back like the Premier 3 or 4 maps. This tells me the original Hybrid is keeping my weight evenly supported, which is a key to avoiding back pain.
Shoulder Pain Based on these results, all three of these beds are great fits for sleepers with shoulder pain! To alleviate pressure, they should do a great job of cushioning the shoulder region.
Hip Pain The Premier 4 is the clear winner for folks with hip pain. Its pressure map appears almost entirely blue, which indicates that it will be used to cradle sensitive hip joints throughout the night. Mattress Reviews Purple
Purple Hybrid Mattress Performance for Couples
Couples prefer beds that are quiet, responsive enough to sex and offer good edge support. See below for how Purple Hybrids compare in those areas.
Motion transfer is when there is motion between the two sides of a bed. This is an important consideration for anyone who sleeps with a child or furry companion, but more so for couples.
To demonstrate motion transfer, I dropped an 10 lb steel ball, from three heights: 4 inches, 8 inch, and 12 inches. I measured the disturbance it caused. The bigger the lines, then, the more severe the disturbance.
Motion transfer results from Purple Hybrids.
These mattresses are so bouncy that I am not surprised they offer little motion isolation. This means that you will feel movement throughout the three mattresses. Mattress Reviews Purple
The best mattress for sex is one that has enough bounce and motion isolation to allow you to move easily.
The Purple Hybrids seem a bit too soft to be shared if you aren’t a light sleeper.
But if you’re not easily disturbed at night, they could be nice options for sex thanks to their lift and mobility.
All Purple Hybrids have a remarkable cooling effect.
These beds should make hot sleepers happy. I would also say that they are some of the most cooling mattresses available.
This is great news especially for couples, as they tend to heat up faster than solo sleepers. Mattress Reviews Purple
Edge support can be described as the degree to which you are able to rest on one side of your mattress and still feel supported. Great edge support can make your mattress feel a bit bigger, since you can spread out across its entire surface.
All three Purple mattresses provided good edge support. Although I could feel the purple grid layer compressing under my weight the foam and coils underneath remained firm and supportive.
Personally, I thought that the Purple Premier 3 had some of the best edge support. Mattress Reviews Purple
What are Purple Hybrids Made Of?
Let’s next look at what these beds are made out of. I’m sure most of you want to learn more about that special Purple Grid layer. This is the purple top layer, which gives Purple mattresses their distinctive feel.
I’ll describe the grid, and all the other mattress layers, in detail below. As a reminder, all of the Purple Hybrids are constructed the same way. There is only one difference: how many inches of Purple Grid each mattress uses.
Cover All these mattresses come with a waterproof and stretchy polyester-blend mattress cover.
Comfort Layer Just below the cover is the hyper-elastic, smart comfort grid. This grid is buoyant, supportive, yet incredibly cooling. While it’s kind of hard to describe how this polymer material feels, I’d liken it to a water bed in that it cradles your body as you move. The original purple Hybrid has 2 inches of Grid, the Hybrid Premier 3 has 3 inches, and the Hybrid Premier 4 has 4 inches. The grid is more dense, so the mattress feels more pressure-relieving.
The Purple Grid.
Next is a layer of transition foam. This transition foam works to ease the sleeper down through the soft top grid and onto the sturdier pocketed coil system below.
Support Layer A section of pocketed coils makes up the bulk of the Hybrid Premier and Hybrid Premier mattresses. These springs have a high bounce and lift the body. As the bed’s polymer grid and pocketsed coils create buoyancy, you will likely feel more “ontop” of them.
The Purple Hybrid is made up of layers of different materials. Mattress Reviews Purple
Unboxing and Off Gassing Purple Hybrids
Purple Hybrids come in bags and are not boxed mattresses. Purple includes complimentary white glove delivery when you order the Hybrid Premier models. Although the original Purple Hybrid mattress is easier to unbag, I recommend having someone to help. A perk of these mattresses is that they do not have a very strong off-gassing scent when compared to other bed-in-a-box models. Any scent should vanish within a few hours.
Let’s now get to the final thoughts about Purple Hybrid Mattresses. It’s time for you to decide if these mattresses are right for your needs. Even though I can’t make the decision for you, here are some thoughts to help.
Purple Hybrid is one of my favorite mattresses
The Purple Hybrids are so cool! They don’t trap as much body heat, so anyone who is hot sleeping should be able to enjoy these beds. I also like how responsive the Purple Hybrid models are. These beds can be used by both single and double sleepers.
Finally, I really like the feel of the Purple Grid. It’s great for helping with your spine alignment. However, it is also extremely pressure relieving. You will find it to be extremely comfortable, especially if you go for the thicker models. If you are looking for a unique look, the Purple may be right for you. Mattress Reviews Purple
My Purple Hybrid Mattress complaints
The Purple mattresses aren’t the most motion-simpliant. While it isn’t a major problem, it might make you feel more awake at night.
However, I would like to point out that some customers were unhappy with the original Purple mattress’s tendency of sagging or forming indentations. I think the Purple Hybrids will be a bit more durable thanks to their innerspring coil layers, but heavier folks especially might want to opt for a different mattress if this is a concern. You should place any Purple bed on a sturdy platform. Mattress Reviews Purple

Purple Hybrids Vs.
After taking a deep-dive look at the Purple Hybrid and Purple Hybrid Premier mattresses, let’s see how they compare to other mattress models you’ll find on the online scene.
Purple Hybrids vs Leesa Hybrid
Like the Purple Hybrids, the Leesa Hybrid combines foam layers with pocketed coils for a one-two punch of pressure relief and support.
Although it does have a traditional feel, it’s still more comfortable than any Purple beds. It could also work well for people who don’t want Purple’s unique feel.
The Leesa Hybrid is a good choice for couples and back sleepers.
Purple Hybrids vs Casper Hybrid
The Casper is different from the Purples. It has zoned support. This means it is firmer in the hips but softer at the shoulders. This provides optimal lumbar support.
Purples are a bit more bouncier that the Casper Hybrids. This is something combination sleepers may like.
The Purple 3 or Purple 4 can be a bit more effective than the Casper Hybrid. Mattress Reviews Purple
Purple Hybrids Vs. Original Purple
The Original Purple mattress’s support layer consists of high-density, poly foam rather than pocketed coils.
The Original Purple is supportive. It’s bouncy and firm. Combination sleepers might particularly like this feel.
The Original Purple Mattress is very cool, just like the Purple Hybrids.
The Original Purple is cheaper than either the Purple Hybrid Premier, or Purple Hybrid Premier.
