How Firm are the Purple Hybrid Mattresses?
Let’s now get into the actual feeling of these bed-in a-box hybrids. Below I’ll share what it was like to lie down on any of the Purple Hybrid mattresses. You should keep in mind that the feeling of sleep is subjective and can vary depending on your preferences and body type. Referring to your reference, I am 5’9″, 125 lbs and prefer to sleep on the side.
As you can see, all three of my mattresses felt very different to me.

Purple Hybrid: This mattress was quite firm so I gave it a 7 on the mattress firmness scale. It’s obvious that this mattress is more supportive than the industry-standard 6.5 for mediumfirmness. This mattress is best for stomach and back sleepers, since the polymer layer of the polymer is thin enough that it can support a straight spine from hips to shoulders.
Back sleepers should enjoy the feel of the Purple Hybrid.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3: I gave this bed a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, and felt it had a true medium-firm feel. This mattress is ideal for combination sleepers. It struck a really nice balance between pressure relief and support that I think could feel comfortable in most sleeping positions.

Purple Hybrid Premier 4: I scored this bed as a 6 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. This soft mattress really supported my pressure points and allowed for a lot of sinkage. However, the bed didn’t feel like it was “stuck in” to me. This mattress is recommended for side sleepers as well as side and combination sleepers. This mattress’ pressure relieving qualities will be appreciated by side sleepers and side combination sleepers.

Before I wrap up this section, I wanted to mention that all three Purple Hybrids had a responsive, bouncy feel. Are Purple Hybrids good for light sleepers (under 130 lb)
Light Back Sleepers – I think the Hybrid Premier 3 is a great fit for lightweight back sleepers, it should really fill in their lumbar regions for some nice pressure relief, and is plenty supportive for lighter folks. For these sleepers, any one of the hybrids may also be suitable.
Light Side Sleepers-The Premier 4 is the ideal choice for these types of sleepers. Side sleepers will appreciate the pressure relief it provides.

Are the Purple Hybrids Good Mattresses for Average Weight Sleepers (130 – 250 lb)?
Average Weight Back Sleepers: The Hybrid Premier 3 is great for those who are average weight. It combines pressure relief and support. This is a great choice for those who need to change positions during the night.
Side sleepers with average weights – The Premier 4 mattress is the best for them. Its thick top layer of hyper-elastic polymer provides plenty of room to sink in for pressure relief at the shoulders and hips.

Heavy Side Sleepers: The Premier 4 is a good choice for heavy side-sleepers. These people will find the Premier 4 comfortable due to its thick grid layer that allows for lots of sinkage.

Purple Hybrids Pain Relief Performance
Pressure relief is closely linked to pain relief. This is the measure of how well a bed can relieve tension at the hips, shoulders, and lower back. To check this, I use a Pressure Map.
Though it sounds complicated, it’s actually quite simple: I roll this gizmo out, hop aboard, and let the map do the rest! The gadget tracks my movements on the bed and generates a colored map of the pressure. Blue areas indicate low pressure, while red areas indicate high pressure.

Back Pain Based on these results, the original Purple Hybrid is the best choice for people with back pain. The map is blue across the board, but doesn’t gap around the lower back the way the Premier 3 and 4 maps do. This means that the original Hybrid is supporting my weight evenly, which is key to avoiding back problems.
Shoulder Pain Based upon these results, all three beds are great choices for those suffering from shoulder pain. To alleviate pressure, they should do a great job of cushioning the shoulder region.

Motion transfer is when there is motion between the two sides of a bed. This is an important aspect for everyone, but it’s especially important for couples and people who share a bed with their child or furry friend.

The best mattress to use for sex has enough bounce and motion control to be easy to move on.
The Purple Hybrids seem a bit too soft to be shared if you aren’t a light sleeper.
But if you’re not easily disturbed at night, they could be nice options for sex thanks to their lift and mobility.

All Purple Hybrids offer incredible cooling.
These beds should make hot sleepers happy. They are also among the most comfortable and cooling you can buy.

Let’s see what these beds actually are! You will be interested to learn more about the Purple Grid Layer. This grid is the stretchy, purple top layer that gives the Purple mattresses their unique feel.
Below I’ll detail the grid as well as all of the mattress layers. All Purple Hybrids are made the same. The only difference is how many inches of the Purple Grid each bed uses.

Comfort Layer Directly below the cover is where you’ll encounter the hyper-elastic polymer smart comfort grid. This grid is extremely cooling, buoyant, and supportive. Support Layer The bulk of both the Hybrid and Hybrid Premier mattresses is a section of pocketed coils. These springs provide a lift to the mattress and are extremely buoyant. As the bed’s polymer grid and pocketsed coils create buoyancy, you will likely feel more “ontop” of them.

Purple Hybrids Unboxing, Off-Gassing
The Purple Hybrids are all bed-in-a-box mattresses, but they actually come in bags instead of boxes! Purple includes complimentary white glove delivery when you order the Hybrid Premier models. Although the original Purple Hybrid is a little easier to lift than the Premier models, I would recommend having a friend help you unbag it. They don’t have an overpowering off-gassing odor, which is a plus for these mattresses. The scent should disappear within a few hours.
