This review will focus on the Purple Hybrid Premier and Purple Hybrid Premier mattress. These beds have the company’s Hyper-Elastic Polymer Purple grid along with springy layers made of pocketed coils. I’ll admit, the specs certainly sound interesting, but are these beds comfortable? Is Purple A Good Mattress
To find out, I gave these mattresses a thorough review, assessing how they’re built, how they feel, and how well they support certain sleepers.

Are Purple Hybrids a Good Mattress?
Purple was established in 2015 and has grown to be one of the most well-known bedding brands. This is due to its cheeky advertising and innovative products. It currently sells three kinds of hybrid mattresses: Purple Hybrid Premier 3, Purple Hybrid Premier 3 & Purple Hybrid Premier 4 The only difference is the amount of Purple’s special grid layer in each bed. The Premier 3 uses 3 inches, the Premier 3 uses 3 inches, and the Premier 4 uses 4 inches. 4 inches
As a result, these beds offer different amounts of pressure relief, but otherwise feel pretty similar. Look below to find out which model is the best.

Who I recommend a Purple Hybrid for
For back sleepers who prefer a firmer feeling, the Purple Hybrid is the best choice. Those who need a little more pressure relief may choose the Purple Premier.
Side sleepers will love the Purple Premier 4 because it provides excellent cushioning for pressure points.
Stomach-sleepers will enjoy the support of the original Purple Hybrid.
You will be able to sleep cool on these mattresses if you are a hot sleeper.
These beds will appeal to combination sleepers. Is Purple A Good Mattress
Who I don’t recommend a Purple Hybrid for
Purple mattresses are not for everyone.
They are so lively, it is likely that you will feel your partner turning and tossing at night.
You might find a better choice if you are easily disturbed at nights. Is Purple A Good Mattress
How Firm are the Purple Hybrid Mattresses?
Next, let’s see how these bed-ina-box hybrids actually feel. Below I’ll share what it was like to lie down on any of the Purple Hybrid mattresses. It is important to remember that feeling can be subjective and depend on your body type. For example, I’m 5’9″, approximately 125 lbs., and prefer sleeping on my side.
As you will see in the graphic, I found that each mattress had its own feel.
Purple Hybrids on a mattress firmness rating scale.
Purple Hybrid. I found the Purple Hybrid mattress to be very firm and gave it a 7. This mattress’s support is superior to the industry average of 6.5 for medium firmness. This mattress is best for stomach and back sleepers, since the polymer layer of the polymer is thin enough that it can support a straight spine from hips to shoulders.
Back sleepers should enjoy the feel of the Purple Hybrid.
Purple Hybrid Premier3 : I gave the bed a 6.5 rating on the firmness scale. It had a medium-firm feel. Combination sleepers who shift between different positions during the night as well as those with sciatica or lower back pain would benefit from this bed. It provides pressure relief and support which can be adjusted to suit any sleeping position.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 could feel great for couples who are looking to sleep together.
Purple Hybrid Premier #4: I gave it a 6 out 10. This soft mattress really supported my pressure points and allowed for a lot of sinkage. But I didn’t feel “stuckin” the mattress. I’d recommend this mattress to side sleepers or side combination sleepers. I think these folks will really appreciate the pressure-relieving feel of this mattress.
Side sleepers may like the Purple Hybrid Premier 4
Before we end this section, let me say that the Purple Hybrids all had a lively, responsive feeling. These beds made me feel more “on top” of them than “in” them. It was also easy to move around at night. In fact, I’d say these are some of the best mattresses for combination sleepers on the market. Is Purple A Good Mattress
Are Purple Hybrids Good for Light Sleepers (under 130lb)?
Light Back Sleepers — The Hybrid Premier 3 I think is a great choice for light back-sleepers. It fills in their lumbar regions to provide good pressure relief. And it is supportive enough for those with lighter bodies. You could also try one of the other hybrids.
For light side sleepers, the Premier 4 is the best choice. Side sleepers will love the fact that it provides pressure relief.
Light Stomach sleepers – I would recommend they stick to the original Purple Hybrid. They should have their hips aligned with each other. Is Purple A Good Mattress
Are Purple Hybrids Good for Average Weight Sleepers (130 -250 lb).
Average Weight Back sleepers – The Hybrid Premier 3 is the perfect choice because it combines pressure relief with support. You can move from one position to another at night, making it a good choice.
Average Weight Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is a great choice for these people. Its thick, top layer of hyper elastic polymer gives you plenty of pressure relief at your hips and shoulders.
Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – The original Purple Hybrid should be supportive enough to keep these folks’ spines in a neutral straight line. Is Purple A Good Mattress
Are the Purple Hybrids Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 lb)?
Heavy Back Sleepers – I would recommend this sleeper stick to the Premier 3 which is thick enough that it will last, but doesn’t feel too soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is an excellent choice for heavy side sleepers. Its thick grid layer provides plenty of space for sinkage, and its soft feel should be comfortable for these folks.
Heavy Stomach sleepers – These beds are not recommended for heavy stomach sleepers. They require a firmer bed to provide the best support. It might be better to choose one of our top-rated mattresses for heavy persons. Is Purple A Good Mattress
Purple Hybrids Pain Relief
Pressure relief and pain relief are closely connected. This refers to how well a bed is capable of relieving tension at the hips and shoulders. To test for this, I like to use a pressure map.
Although it sounds complicated, the process is really simple. You just need to roll the device and then get onboard. The device tracks the force my body exerts on the surface of the map as I move, and then creates a colored map showing the pressure. Blue areas indicate low pressure, while red areas indicate high pressure.
The Purple Hybrids’ pressure relief results.
Back Pain Based on these results, the original Purple Hybrid is the best choice for people with back pain. The map is uniformly blue, but it doesn’t show any gaps around the lower back as the Premier 3 and 4 maps. This is an indication that the original Hybrid is evenly supporting my weight, which is important for avoiding back pain.
Shoulder Pain Based on these results, all three of these beds are great fits for sleepers with shoulder pain! To relieve pressure, they should cushion the shoulder area.
Hip Pain The Prime 4 is the clear winner in hip pain. Its pressure map is nearly completely blue, which means that sensitive hip joints will be cradled throughout night. Is Purple A Good Mattress
Purple Hybrid Mattress Performances For Couples
Couples like beds that do not transmit motion, are comfortable for sex, and have excellent edge support. See below for how Purple Hybrids compare in those areas.
Motion transfer refers to the amount of movement that can be detected from one side of a bed to the next. This is an important aspect for everyone, but it’s especially important for couples and people who share a bed with their child or furry friend.
I dropped a 10-lb steel ball at heights of 4″, 8″ and 12 inches to illustrate motion transfer. The disturbance it caused was measured: the larger the lines, the greater the disturbance.
Motion transfer is a result of the Purple Hybrids.
Considering how bouncy these mattresses are, I’m not that surprised to see they don’t offer great motion isolation. I think this means you might feel movement across the three mattresses. Is Purple A Good Mattress
The best mattress to use for sex has enough bounce and motion control to be easy to move on.
Personally, I think the Purple Hybrids are a bit too bouncy to share if you’re a light sleeper.
They could also be a good option for sex if you aren’t easily disturbed at night.
All Purple Hybrids are extremely cool.
These beds are great for hot sleepers. I would also say that they are some of the most cooling mattresses available.
This is great news, especially for couples that tend to overheat faster than solo sleepers. Is Purple A Good Mattress
Edge support is a measure of whether or not you’ll be able to sleep all the way on the side of your bed and still feel supported. Great edge support can make your mattress feel a bit bigger, since you can spread out across its entire surface.
All three Purple mattresses I tested had excellent edge support. Although I could feel the purple grid layer compressing under my weight the foam and coils underneath remained firm and supportive.
Personally, I found the Purple Premier 3 to have the best edge support. Is Purple A Good Mattress
What are Purple Hybrids Made From?
Let’s now get to the bottom of what these beds are made from! I’m sure you want to find out more about Purple Grid. This is the stretchy purple top layer that gives Purple mattresses their unique feel.
Below you will find detailed descriptions of the grid as well the other layers. As a reminder, all of the Purple Hybrids are constructed the same way. The only difference between the Purple Grids used in each bed is the number of inches.
Cover All these mattresses come with a waterproof and stretchy polyester-blend mattress cover.
Comfort Layer Just below the cover is the hyper-elastic, smart comfort grid. This grid is very cooling and supportive. Although it is hard to describe how the polymer material feels, I liken it as a water bed. It supports and cradles you body as you move. The Hybrid Premier 3 uses 3 inches of Grid, the Hybrid Premier 4 uses 4 inches. The grid is more dense, so the mattress feels more pressure-relieving.
A look at The Purple Grid.
Next, you will find a layer with poly foam. This transition foam works to ease the sleeper down through the soft top grid and onto the sturdier pocketed coil system below.
Support Layer: The bulk of Hybrid Premier or Hybrid Premier mattresses consists of a section made of pocketed coils. These springs are very bouncy and help lift the sleeping person up and out of their structure. In general, you’ll likely feel more “on top” of these beds as the polymer grid and pocketed coils produce a ton of buoyancy.
The Purple Hybrid is made up of layers of different materials. Is Purple A Good Mattress
Unboxing and Off Gassing Purple Hybrids
The Purple Hybrids are all bed-in-a-box mattresses, but they actually come in bags instead of boxes! Purple offers complimentary white glove delivery for Hybrid Premier models. These beds are heavy. Although the original Purple Hybrid is easier to lift, I recommend that you have a friend to help with unbagging it. They don’t have an overpowering off-gassing odor, which is a plus for these mattresses. Any scent should vanish within a few hours.
Let me conclude my review on Purple Hybrid Mattresses. Now, you can decide if one or more of these mattresses are the right fit for you. And though I can’t make that decision for you, I can leave you with a few final thoughts to help you get there on your own.
Purple Hybrid mattress are my favorite.
I really love how cooling all of the Purple Hybrids are. They don’t trap body heat and should therefore be comfortable for most hot sleepers. I love the responsiveness of Purple Hybrids. Combination sleepers will have no trouble changing their positions on these beds.
Finally, the Purple Grid feels great. It does a great job of helping you achieve a healthy spinal alignment, but still feels incredible pressure relieving. Especially when you choose one of the thicker models. The Purple is a great choice if you want to try a different feel. Is Purple A Good Mattress
My Purple Hybrid mattress complaints
Purple mattresses do not have the best motion isolation. This is not a problem, but if you are constantly disturbed at night, you may want to consider a traditional memory foam mattress. It will absorb more motion.
I do also want to note that a few customers have complained about the original Purple mattress sagging and forming indentations. Purple Hybrids will last longer due to the layers of innerspring coils. But heavier people may want to choose a different mattress. Place any Purple bed you purchase on a solid platform. Purple Hybrid vs.
Let’s take an in-depth look at Purple Hybrid Premier mattress and Purple Hybrid Premier mattress.
Purple Hybrids vs Leesa Hybrid
The Leesa Hybrid, like the Purple Hybrids has foam layers and pocketed coils to provide pressure relief and support.
But it is more traditional than any Purple bed, so it could work for those who aren’t sold on Purple’s unique feel.
The Leesa Hybrid is a good choice for couples and back sleepers.
Purple Hybrids vs Casper Hybrid
Casper, unlike the Purples, has zoned support. This means that it’s firmer around the hips and more comfortable at the shoulders.
Purples can be more bouncy than the Casper Hybrids, which may appeal to combination sleepers.
The Purple 3 and Purple 4 have a little more pressure relief than the Casper Hybrid. Is Purple A Good Mattress
Purple Hybrids and Original Purple
The Original Purple mattress’s support layer consists of high-density, poly foam rather than pocketed coils.
The Original Purple is supportive, bouncy, and firm. Combination sleepers may particularly enjoy this feeling.
The Original Purple Mattress is very cool, just like the Purple Hybrids.
The Original Purple is cheaper than either the Purple Hybrid Premier, or Purple Hybrid Premier.
