In this review we will look at the Purple Hybrid Premier as well as the Purple Hybrid Premier. These beds have the company’s Hyper-Elastic Polymer Purple grid along with springy layers made of pocketed coils. While the specs are interesting, these beds do not sound comfortable. To find out, I gave these mattresses a thorough review, assessing how they’re built, how they feel, and how well they support certain sleepers.

Is a Purple Hybrid a Good Mattress for You?
Purple was established in 2015 and has grown to be one of the most well-known bedding brands. This is due to its cheeky advertising and innovative products. It sells three varieties of hybrid mattresses: the Purple Hybrid Premier 3 or Purple Hybrid Premier 4 and the Purple Hybrid Premier 3. Only the difference between these mattresses is the amount of Purple’s special grid-layer included in each. The original Hybrid uses 2 inches, the Premier 3 uses 3 inches, and the Premier 4 uses (you guessed it!) 4 inches
As a result, these beds offer different amounts of pressure relief, but otherwise feel pretty similar. You can find out more about which model is best suited to you by taking a look at the table below.

Who I recommend a Purple Hybrid for
For back sleepers who prefer a firmer feeling, the Purple Hybrid is the best choice. Those who need a little more pressure relief may choose the Purple Premier.
Side sleepers may like the Purple Premier 4, as it offers great cushioning around sensitive pressure points.
Stomach sleepers will probably enjoy the supportive feeling of the original Purple Hybrid.
The coolness of these mattresses is something that hot sleepers will appreciate.
These beds should be enjoyed by combination sleepers! How Much Is A Purple Mattress
Who I don’t recommend a Purple Hybrid for
Purple mattresses may not be for everyone.
Since they’re so bouncy, you’re likely to feel a partner tossing and turning at night.
You might find a better choice if you are easily disturbed at nights. How Much Is A Purple Mattress
How Firm is the Purple Hybrid Mattresses
Next, let us get into how these bed in a box hybrids feel. Below is a detailed account of how I felt when I slept on the three Purple Hybrid models. Remember that feelings are subjective and may vary depending on how you sleep. Referring to my height, I am 5’9″ and 125 lbs. I prefer to sleep on my side.
As you can see, all three of my mattresses felt very different to me.
Purple Hybrids and the mattress firmness.
Purple Hybrid – I found this mattress to have a very firm feel, so I gave it 7/10 on the mattress firmness rating. This mattress will be more supportive than the industry standard of 6.5, which is for medium firmness. This mattress is best for stomach and back sleepers, since the polymer layer of the polymer is thin enough that it can support a straight spine from hips to shoulders.
Back sleepers should enjoy the feel of the Purple Hybrid.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3: I gave this bed a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, and felt it had a true medium-firm feel. This mattress is ideal for combination sleepers. It offered pressure relief and support, which I believe could be used in any position.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 may feel good for combination sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 4: I scored this bed as a 6 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. The soft mattress was very supportive and cradled all my pressure points. I did not feel “stuck-in”, however. This mattress would suit side sleepers or side combo sleepers. I believe these people will love the pressure-relieving comfort of this mattress.
Side sleepers will enjoy the Purple Hybrid Premier 4
Before we wrap this section up, I want to note that all three of the Purple Hybrids had a bouncy, responsive feel. These beds felt like I was more “on top of” the bed than “in it”. It was very easy to shift positions at night. These are, in fact, some of the most comfortable mattresses available for combination sleepers. How Much Is A Purple Mattress
Are Purple Hybrids Good Mattresses For Light Sleepers (Under 130 Pounds)?
Light Back Sleepers- The Hybrid Premier 3 will work well for light back sleepers. This hybrid should provide pressure relief in the lumbar regions and be supportive for people who are lighter. For these sleepers, any one of the hybrids may also be suitable.
The Premier 4 is a great option for light side sleepers. It offers great pressure relief, which is important for side sleepers.
Light Stomach sleepers – I would recommend they stick to the original Purple Hybrid. They should have their hips aligned with each other. How Much Is A Purple Mattress
Are the Purple Hybrids Good Mattresses for Average Weight Sleepers (130 – 250 lb)?
Average Weight Back Sleepers – The Hybrid Premier 3 is a nice fit for these sleepers, since it combines the pressure relief and support. It is ideal for people who move between sleeping positions at night.
Average Weight Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is the best pick for these sleepers. Its thick top layer of hyper-elastic polymer provides plenty of room to sink in for pressure relief at the shoulders and hips.
Average Weight Stomach sleepers – The original Purple Hybrid should support these people’s spines. How Much Is A Purple Mattress
Are Purple Hybrids the Best Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250lb).
Heavy Back Sleepers – I’d recommend these sleepers stick to the Premier 3, which is thick enough to be durable, but won’t feel overly soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers-The Premier 4 is a great choice for those who are heavy sleepers. These people will find the Premier 4 comfortable due to its thick grid layer that allows for lots of sinkage.
Heavy Stomach sleepers – These beds are not recommended for heavy stomach sleepers. They require a firmer bed to provide the best support. One of our best mattresses for heavy people could be a better fit. How Much Is A Purple Mattress
Purple Hybrids Pain Relief Performance
Pain relief is closely tied to pressure relief, which is a measure of how well a bed is able to alleviate tension at the shoulders, hips, and lower back. A pressure map is a great way to test this.
It sounds complicated but it’s really quite easy. All I have to do is roll the gadget out and get on board. The map does the rest. As I move around the bed, the gadget records the force my body’s exerting on the map, and makes a colored “map” of the pressure. Blue indicates areas of low pressure and red indicates areas of high pressure.
The Purple Hybrids provide pressure relief.
Back Pain Based purely on these pressure maps, the original Purple Hybrid was found to be the best mattress for those with back problems. Blue across the board, but not around the lower back like the Premier 3 or 4 maps. This indicates that the original Hybrid is maintaining my weight evenly supported. This is important in order to avoid back pain.
Shoulder Pain – Based on these results all three of these beds would be a great fit for anyone suffering from shoulder problems. To relieve pressure, they should cushion the shoulder area.
Hip Pain The Premier 4 is the clear winner if you suffer from hip pain. Its pressure map is nearly completely blue, which means that sensitive hip joints will be cradled throughout night. How Much Is A Purple Mattress
Purple Hybrid Mattress Performances For Couples
Couples like beds that do not transmit motion, are comfortable for sex, and have excellent edge support. Read on below to see how the Purple Hybrids stack up in those areas.
Motion transfer refers the amount that is detectable in the bed from one side to the other. This is an important aspect for everyone, but it’s especially important for couples and people who share a bed with their child or furry friend.
I dropped a 10-lb steel ball at heights of 4″, 8″ and 12 inches to illustrate motion transfer. The disturbance it caused was measured: the larger the lines, the greater the disturbance.
The Purple Hybrids’ motion transfer results.
Given how soft these mattresses are, it’s not surprising that they don’t provide much motion isolation. This shows me that you are likely to feel movement on all three of these mattresses. This could make them less suitable for couples, especially if one is easily disturbed at night. How Much Is A Purple Mattress
The best mattress to use for sex has enough bounce and motion control to be easy to move on.
Personal opinion: I find the Purple Hybrids a bit too lively to share if one is a light sleeper.
If you don’t mind being disturbed at night, these guys could be great options for sex because of their mobility and lift.
All Purple Hybrids offer incredible cooling.
Any of these beds is suitable for hot sleepers. They’re also one of the most cool mattresses that you’ll find.
This is good news for couples who tend to heat up much faster than single sleepers. How Much Is A Purple Mattress
Edge support can be described as the degree to which you are able to rest on one side of your mattress and still feel supported. A mattress with great edge support will feel larger because you can spread it across its entire surface.
All three Purple mattress had good edge support. I could feel the Purple grid layer shrink under my body weight, but the foam below and coils were firm and supportive.
Personally, I found the Purple Premier 3 to have the best edge support. How Much Is A Purple Mattress
What is the Purple Hybrid?
Next up, let’s get into what these beds are made of! I know most people want to know more information about the Purple Grid layer. This is the purple top layer, which gives Purple mattresses their distinctive feel.
Below, I will detail the grid and the various mattress layers. As a reminder, all of the Purple Hybrids are constructed the same way. There is only one difference: how many inches of Purple Grid each mattress uses.
Cover All these mattresses come with a waterproof and stretchy polyester-blend mattress cover.
Comfort Layer Located directly below the cover, you will find the hyper-elastic smart comfort grid made of polymer smart. This grid is very cooling and supportive. Although it is difficult to describe the feel of this polymer material, it can be compared to a waterbed in that it supports your body and moves with you. The original purple Hybrid used 2 inches of Grid, while the Hybrid Premier 3 and Hybrid Premier 4 use 3 inches and 4 respectively. The mattress will feel more pressure-relieving if there’s more grid.
A look at the Purple Grid.
Transition Layer Next you’ll find a layer poly foam. This transition foam is used to help the sleeper get through the soft top grid, and on to the stronger pocketed coils system below.
Support Layer This section is found in both Hybrid Premier as well as Hybrid Premier. These springs, which are very buoyant, help to lift the sleeper higher and further out of the structure. You will feel more “on top” of these beds because the pocketsed coils and polymer grid provide a lot buoyancy.

Unboxing and Off Gassing Purple Hybrids
Purple Hybrids all come in a box, but are actually packaged in bags! Purple includes complimentary white glove delivery when you order the Hybrid Premier models. Although the original Purple Hybrid is a little easier to lift than the Premier models, I would recommend having a friend help you unbag it. This mattress is not as strong in off-gassing as other bed-ina-box mattresses. Any scent should vanish within a few hours.
Let’s get to the bottom of this review. Now, you can decide if one or more of these mattresses are the right fit for you. Even though I can’t make the decision for you, here are some thoughts to help.
Purple Hybrid mattresses are one of my favourite things.
I love the cooling effect of Purple Hybrids. They don’t trap body heat and should therefore be comfortable for most hot sleepers. I also like how responsive the Purple Hybrid models are. Combination sleepers won’t have any trouble changing positions on these beds.
Finally, I really like the feel of the Purple Grid. The Purple Grid is great for helping you maintain a healthy spine alignment. It also feels amazing in relieving pressure. The thicker models are the best, especially when they are heavier. The Purple is a great choice if you want to try a different feel. How Much Is A Purple Mattress
My Purple Hybrid Mattress complaints
The Purple mattresses aren’t the most motion-simpliant. While this isn’t a dealbreaker, if you’re really easily disturbed at night you might want to opt for a more traditional memory foam mattress, which will do a better job absorbing motion.
I also wanted to mention that some customers complained about the Purple mattress’s tendency to sag and form indentations. Purple Hybrids will last longer due to the layers of innerspring coils. But heavier people may want to choose a different mattress. If you decide to purchase any Purple bed, ensure you place it on a solid platform, not a box spring, and rotate it 180 degrees every few months to increase its lifespan. How Much Is A Purple Mattress

Purple Hybrid Vs.
Let’s take a deeper look at the Purple Hybrid Premier and Purple Hybrid Premier mattresses. Now let’s compare them to other models on the internet.
Purple Hybrids vs Leesa Hybrid
The Leesa Hybrid, like the Purple Hybrids has foam layers and pocketed coils to provide pressure relief and support.
It has a more traditional feel than the Purple beds. This could be a good option for people who don’t like Purple’s unique feel.
The Leesa Hybrid is a good choice for couples and back sleepers.
Purple Hybrids vs Casper Hybrid
The Casper is different from the Purples. It has zoned support. This means it is firmer in the hips but softer at the shoulders. This provides optimal lumbar support.
Purples can be more bouncy than the Casper Hybrids, which may appeal to combination sleepers.
The Purple 3 or Purple 4 can be a bit more effective than the Casper Hybrid. How Much Is A Purple Mattress
Purple Hybrids vs Original Purple
The Original Purple mattress’s support layer consists of high-density, poly foam rather than pocketed coils.
The Original Purple is supportive, firm, and buoyant. Combination sleepers may particularly enjoy this feeling.
The Original Purple Mattress is very cool, just like the Purple Hybrids.
The Original Purple is much cheaper than either Purple Hybrid Premier and Purple Hybrid Premier.
