In this review we will look at the Purple Hybrid Premier as well as the Purple Hybrid Premier. These beds feature the Hyper-Elastic Polymer Purple grid as well as layers of springy pockets and coils. While the specs are interesting, these beds do not sound comfortable. How Much Does The Purple Mattress Weigh
To find out, these mattresses received a thorough review. I evaluated how they were constructed, how they feel and how they support specific sleepers.

Is a Purple Hybrid Mattress a Good Choice?
Purple was founded by a group of cheeky ads and innovative products in 2015. It currently sells three kinds of hybrid mattresses: Purple Hybrid Premier 3, Purple Hybrid Premier 3 & Purple Hybrid Premier 4 There is only one difference between the beds: how much Purple’s grid layer is included in each. The Premier 3 and Premier 4 use 2 inches each, while the Premier 3 and Premier 3 each use 3 inches. 4 inches.
The beds are all different in terms of how much pressure they provide, but the overall experience is pretty similar. Take a look below to learn a little more about who each model might work best for.

Who I recommend a Purple Hybrid for
For back sleepers who prefer a firmer feeling, the Purple Hybrid is the best choice. Those who need a little more pressure relief may choose the Purple Premier.
Side sleepers might like the Purple Premier 4 which provides great cushioning around sensitive pressure point.
People who sleep on their stomachs will appreciate the comforting feel of the original Purple Hybrid.
These mattresses should be appreciated by hot sleepers.
These beds will appeal to combination sleepers. How Much Does The Purple Mattress Weigh
Who I don’t recommend a Purple Hybrid for
Purple mattresses might not appeal to couples.
They are so lively, it is likely that you will feel your partner turning and tossing at night.
One of our top memory foam mattresses might be a better option if you have trouble falling asleep at night. How Much Does The Purple Mattress Weigh
How Firm Are Purple Hybrid Mattresses
Let’s now get into the actual feeling of these bed-in a-box hybrids. Below I will describe how it felt to sleep on each of the Purple Hybrid models. Feelings are subjective and will vary depending on your body type and preferred sleeping position. For reference, I’m 5’9″, about 125 lbs, and prefer to sleep on my side.
As you can see from the graphic below I felt that all three mattresses had very distinct feelings. So I’ll break them apart so you can read my full thoughts about each.
The Purple Hybrids on the mattress firmness scale.
Purple Hybrid: I found this mattress to be quite firm, so gave it a 7 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. This mattress has a firmer feel than the industry norm of 6.5 for medium-firmness. This mattress is best for stomach and back sleepers, since the polymer layer of the polymer is thin enough that it can support a straight spine from hips to shoulders.
Purple Hybrid should be enjoyed by back-sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier3 : I gave the bed a 6.5 rating on the firmness scale. It had a medium-firm feel. This mattress is ideal for combination sleepers. It struck a really nice balance between pressure relief and support that I think could feel comfortable in most sleeping positions.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 could feel great for couples who are looking to sleep together.
Purple Hybrid Premier 4: I scored this bed as a 6 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. This soft mattress really supported my pressure points and allowed for a lot of sinkage. I did not feel “stuck-in”, however. This mattress would suit side sleepers or side combo sleepers. This mattress’ pressure relieving qualities will be appreciated by side sleepers and side combination sleepers.
Side sleepers may like the Purple Hybrid Premier 4
Before we wrap this section up, I want to note that all three of the Purple Hybrids had a bouncy, responsive feel. These beds felt more like “on top” than “in”, and it was easy to switch positions during the night. These are the best combination mattresses on the market. How Much Does The Purple Mattress Weigh
Are Purple Hybrids Good for Light Sleepers (under 130lb)?
Light Back Sleepers — The Hybrid Premier 3 I think is a great choice for light back-sleepers. It fills in their lumbar regions to provide good pressure relief. And it is supportive enough for those with lighter bodies. For these sleepers, any one of the hybrids may also be suitable.
Light Side Sleepers-The Premier 4 is the ideal choice for these types of sleepers. It provides great pressure relief which is essential for side sleepers.
Light Stomach Sleepers- These people should stick with the original Purple Hybrid. It will keep their hips in line with their shoulders. How Much Does The Purple Mattress Weigh
Are Purple Hybrids good mattresses for average weight sleepers (130-250 lb)
Average Weight Back Sleepers-The Hybrid Premier 3 is a great choice for these sleepers because it offers both pressure relief as well as support. You can move from one position to another at night, making it a good choice.
Side sleepers with average weights – The Premier 4 mattress is the best for them. Its top layer of hyperelasticity polymer is thick enough to allow for pressure relief at hips and shoulders.
Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – The original Purple Hybrid should be supportive enough to keep these folks’ spines in a neutral straight line. How Much Does The Purple Mattress Weigh
Are Purple Hybrids the Best Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250lb).
Heavy Back Sleepers–I recommend these sleepers stick the Premier 3 because it is thick enough to last but not soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers — The Premier 4 can be a great option for heavy side sleepers. Its thick grid layers provide plenty of room for sinkage while its soft feel should be very comfortable.
Heavy Stomach Sleepers – I wouldn’t recommend any of these beds to heavy stomach sleepers, who need a firmer mattress to provide optimal support. It might be better to choose one of our top-rated mattresses for heavy persons. How Much Does The Purple Mattress Weigh
Purple Hybrids Pain Relief
Pressure relief and pain relief are closely connected. This refers to how well a bed is capable of relieving tension at the hips and shoulders. I use a pressure map to check for this.
Although it sounds complicated, the process is really simple. You just need to roll the device and then get onboard. The gadget tracks the force that my body exerts on the map as I move about the bed and creates a colored “map of pressure”. The blue areas denote low pressure while the red areas are high.
Pressure relief is one of the benefits of Purple Hybrids.
Back Pain Based purely on these pressure maps, the original Purple Hybrid was found to be the best mattress for those with back problems. The map is blue across the board, but doesn’t gap around the lower back the way the Premier 3 and 4 maps do. This shows me that the original Hybrid is keeping me evenly supported in my weight which is crucial for avoiding back discomfort.
Shoulder Pain Based upon these results, all three beds are great choices for those suffering from shoulder pain. These beds should be able to cushion the shoulders and relieve pressure.
Hip Pain the Premier 4 is the winner for hip pain sufferers. Its pressure map is almost completely blue, which tells me sensitive hip joints will be cradled throughout the night. How Much Does The Purple Mattress Weigh
Purple Hybrid Mattress Performance For Couples
Couples prefer beds that are quiet, responsive enough to sex and offer good edge support. Continue reading to learn how Purple Hybrids stack-up in those areas.
Motion transfer is when there is motion between the two sides of a bed. This is an important factor for all sleepers, but especially for couples or folks who share a bed with a child or furry best friend.
I dropped a steel ball weighing 10 lbs from heights of 4, 8 and 12 inches. This was to demonstrate motion transfer.
The Purple Hybrids’ motion transfer results.
Given the bounce of these mattresses, it is not surprising to find that they do not offer motion isolation. This shows me that you are likely to feel movement on all three of these mattresses. This could make them less suitable for couples, especially if one is easily disturbed at night. How Much Does The Purple Mattress Weigh
A good mattress for sex should have enough bounce and motion isolation to be comfortable to move about on.
Personally, I think the Purple Hybrids are a bit too bouncy to share if you’re a light sleeper.
But if you’re not easily disturbed at night, they could be nice options for sex thanks to their lift and mobility.
The Purple Hybrids all have incredible cooling properties.
Hot sleepers should be happy on any of these beds. They’re also one of the most cool mattresses that you’ll find.
This is great news to couples who overheat more quickly than those who sleep alone. How Much Does The Purple Mattress Weigh
Edge support can be described as the degree to which you are able to rest on one side of your mattress and still feel supported. Great edge support can make your mattress feel a bit bigger, since you can spread out across its entire surface.
I thought all three Purple mattresses had good edge support. I could feel the Purple grid layer compress under my weight, but the foam and coils below stayed firm and supportive.
I personally thought that the Purple Premier 3 provided the best edge support. How Much Does The Purple Mattress Weigh
What is the Purple Hybrid?
Let’s see what these beds actually are! I know most people want to know more information about the Purple Grid layer. This grid is the stretchy, purple top layer that gives the Purple mattresses their unique feel.
Below, I will detail the grid and the various mattress layers. Recall that all Purple Hybrids can be assembled the same way. There is only one difference: how many inches of Purple Grid each mattress uses.
Cover All these mattresses feature a breathable and stretchy polyester blend mattress cover.
Comfort Layer The hyper-elastic comfort grid is located below the cover. This grid is very cooling and supportive. It is difficult to describe how this polymer material feels. However, I would compare it to a waterbed because it wraps around your body as you move. The Hybrid Premier 3 Purple uses 3 Inches of Grid and the Hybrid Premier 4 4 Inches. The more grid you have, the more comfortable the mattress is.
A look at The Purple Grid.
The Transition Layer You’ll next find a layer made of poly foam. The transition foam acts to allow the sleeper to move down through the soft grid and onto the firmer pocketed coil below.
Support Layer The bulk of both the Hybrid and Hybrid Premier mattresses is a section of pocketed coils. These springs are very bouncy and help lift the sleeping person up and out of their structure. Because of the buoyancy of the pocketsed coils and polymer grid, these beds are more comfortable than others.

Unboxing and Off Gassing Purple Hybrids
Purple Hybrids come in bags and are not boxed mattresses. Purple provides complimentary white glove delivery on Hybrid Premier models. They are extremely heavy. The original Purple Hybrid isn’t as hard to lift, but I’d still recommend having a friend nearby to help you unbag it. They don’t have an overpowering off-gassing odor, which is a plus for these mattresses. The scent should disappear within a few hours.
Let’s get to the bottom of this review. After reviewing every detail, it’s time now to make the decision about which mattress is best for you. While I cannot make this decision for you personally, I can give you some final thoughts that will help you to make the right choice.
Purple Hybrid Mattresses: My favourite features
The Purple Hybrids are extremely cooling. They don’t trap body heat and should therefore be comfortable for most hot sleepers. I like the responsiveness of Purple Hybrid beds. These beds can be used by both single and double sleepers.
I love the feeling of the Purple Grid. The Purple Grid is great for helping you maintain a healthy spine alignment. It also feels amazing in relieving pressure. It is especially effective when you opt for one of the thicker models. If you’re willing to test out a more unique feel I think the Purple might be a great fit for you. My Purple Hybrid mattress complaints
Purple mattresses do not have the best motion isolation. Although this isn’t a major issue, it can make your night more difficult.
I do also want to note that a few customers have complained about the original Purple mattress sagging and forming indentations. Purple Hybrids have innerspring coil layers that make them more durable. If this is a problem, heavy people might choose to switch to a different model. These experts recommend using a solid platform, slatted or adjustable bed frame.
Purple Hybrid Vs.
Let’s now take a deep dive into the Purple Hybrid Premier, and see how they compare with other mattresses you can find on the Internet.
Purple Hybrids vs Leesa Hybrid
Like the Purple Hybrids, the Leesa Hybrid combines foam layers with pocketed coils for a one-two punch of pressure relief and support.
It does however have a more traditional feel to it than any Purple beds. So, this could work for those who aren’t keen on Purple’s unique feel.
I would recommend the Leesa Hybrid for couples and back sleepers.
Purple Hybrids vs Casper Hybrid
Unlike the Purples, the Casper features zoned support, meaning it’s firmer at the hips and softer at the shoulders to offer optimal lumbar support.
Purples are more bouncier than Casper Hybrids, which combination sleepers may appreciate.
The Purple 3 and Purple 4 have a little more pressure relief than the Casper Hybrid. How Much Does The Purple Mattress Weigh
Purple Hybrids vs Original Purple
The Original Purple mattress’s support layer is made of high-density poly foam instead of pocketed coils.
The Original Purple is supportive, bouncy, and firm. Combination sleepers might particularly like this feel.
The Original Purple Mattress is very cool, just like the Purple Hybrids.
The Original Purple is less expensive than either the Purple Hybrid or Purple Hybrid Premier.
