We’ll be reviewing the Purple Hybrid Premier, and Purple Hybrid Premier beds. These beds have the company’s Hyper-Elastic Polymer Purple grid along with springy layers made of pocketed coils. I’ll admit, the specs certainly sound interesting, but are these beds comfortable? How Long Does It Take For Purple Mattress To Expand

Is a Purple Hybrid a good mattress?
Purple was founded in 2015. It has become one of the most loved bedding brands thanks to its quirky advertisements and innovative products. It currently sells three kinds of hybrid mattresses: Purple Hybrid Premier 3, Purple Hybrid Premier 3 & Purple Hybrid Premier 4 The only difference is the amount of Purple’s special grid layer in each bed. The Premier 3 Hybrid has 2 inches, the Premier 3 3 inches and the Premier 4 4 inches. 4 inches
Although the pressure relief offered by these beds is different, they feel almost identical. Take a look below to learn a little more about who each model might work best for.

Who I recommend a Purple Hybrid for
The Purple Hybrid original is ideal for back sleepers who prefer a firmer feel. Purple Premier 3 might be more suitable for those who require a bit more pressure relief.
Side sleepers might like the Purple Premier 4 which provides great cushioning around sensitive pressure point.
People who sleep on their stomachs will appreciate the comforting feel of the original Purple Hybrid.
These mattresses should be appreciated by hot sleepers.
These beds will appeal to combination sleepers. How Long Does It Take For Purple Mattress To Expand
Who I don’t recommend a Purple Hybrid for
Purple mattresses might not be for couples.
Since they’re so bouncy, you’re likely to feel a partner tossing and turning at night.
You might find a better choice if you are easily disturbed at nights. How Long Does It Take For Purple Mattress To Expand
How Firm are Purple Hybrid mattresses?
Let’s next look at how these bed/in-a-box hybrids actually felt. Below, I’ll describe what it was like to sleep in each of the Purple Hybrid hybrid models. It is important to remember that feeling can be subjective and depend on your body type. Referring to your reference, I am 5’9″, 125 lbs and prefer to sleep on the side.
As you can see in the graphic below, I actually thought all three mattresses had pretty distinct feels, so I’ll section them off below so you can get my full thoughts on each one.
Purple Hybrids and the mattress firmness.
Purple Hybrid. I found the Purple Hybrid mattress to be very firm and gave it a 7. This mattress has a firmer feel than the industry norm of 6.5 for medium-firmness. This mattress is best for stomach and back sleepers, since the polymer layer of the polymer is thin enough that it can support a straight spine from hips to shoulders.
Back sleepers should enjoy the feel of the Purple Hybrid.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3: I gave this bed a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, and felt it had a true medium-firm feel. Combination sleepers, who frequently shift between positions throughout the night, and those with lower back pain or seeking a mattress to support sciatica, will love this bed. It was able to provide pressure relief as well as support so that you can feel at ease in any of your sleeping positions.
The Purple Hybrid Premier 3 could feel comfortable to combination sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 4: I scored this bed as a 6 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. This soft mattress really supported my pressure points and allowed for a lot of sinkage. The bed did not feel “stuck” to me. Side sleepers and side-combined sleepers would love this mattress. I believe these people will love the pressure-relieving comfort of this mattress.
Side sleepers will love the Purple Hybrid Premier 4.
Before we wrap up, I would like to highlight the responsiveness and bounce of all three Purple Hybrids. These beds made me feel more “on top” of them than “in” them. It was also easy to move around at night. These are the best combination mattresses on the market. How Long Does It Take For Purple Mattress To Expand
Are Purple Hybrids good for light sleepers (under 130 lb)
Light Back Sleepers- The Hybrid Premier 3 will work well for light back sleepers. This hybrid should provide pressure relief in the lumbar regions and be supportive for people who are lighter. These sleepers could also benefit from any of the hybrids.
Light Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is the right choice for these sleepers. Side sleepers will appreciate the pressure relief it provides.
Light Stomach-Sleepers – I recommend these people stick to the original Purple Hybrid. Their hips should be in line with their shoulders. How Long Does It Take For Purple Mattress To Expand
Are Purple Hybrids suitable for average-weight sleepers (130 – 250 lb), or are they not?
Average Weight Back sleepers – The Hybrid Premier 3 is the perfect choice because it combines pressure relief with support. It’s an especially nice choice if you move between positions at night.
Side sleepers with average weights – The Premier 4 mattress is the best for them. The thick layer of hyperelastic polymer on the top allows for plenty of pressure relief at the shoulders, hips, and hips.
Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – The original Purple Hybrid should be supportive enough to keep these folks’ spines in a neutral straight line. How Long Does It Take For Purple Mattress To Expand
Are Purple Hybrids a good mattress for heavy sleepers (over 250 lb).
Heavy Back Sleepers–I recommend these sleepers stick the Premier 3 because it is thick enough to last but not soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is an excellent choice for heavy side sleepers. These people will find the Premier 4 comfortable due to its thick grid layer that allows for lots of sinkage.
Heavy Stomach Sleepers – I wouldn’t recommend any of these beds to heavy stomach sleepers, who need a firmer mattress to provide optimal support. A better choice for heavy people is one of our top mattresses. How Long Does It Take For Purple Mattress To Expand
Purple Hybrids Pain Relief
Pressure relief and pain relief are closely connected. This refers to how well a bed is capable of relieving tension at the hips and shoulders. To check this, I use a Pressure Map.
Although it sounds complex, it’s actually quite straightforward. I simply roll this device out, get on, and the map will do the rest. The gadget tracks my movements on the bed and generates a colored map of the pressure. Blue signifies low pressure areas, and red the high pressure areas.
The Purple Hybrids provide pressure relief.
Back Pain Based on these results, the original Purple Hybrid is the best choice for people with back pain. The map is uniformly blue, but it doesn’t show any gaps around the lower back as the Premier 3 and 4 maps. This is an indication that the original Hybrid is evenly supporting my weight, which is important for avoiding back pain.
Shoulder Pain Based upon these results, all three beds are great choices for those suffering from shoulder pain. These beds should be able to cushion the shoulders and relieve pressure.
Hip Pain The Prime 4 is the clear winner in hip pain. Its pressure map is almost completely blue, which tells me sensitive hip joints will be cradled throughout the night. How Long Does It Take For Purple Mattress To Expand
Purple Hybrid Mattress Performances For Couples
Couples like beds that do not transmit motion, are comfortable for sex, and have excellent edge support. Continue reading to learn how Purple Hybrids stack-up in those areas.
Motion transfer refers to the amount of movement that can be detected from one side of a bed to the next. This is an important aspect for everyone, but it’s especially important for couples and people who share a bed with their child or furry friend.
I dropped a 10-lb steel ball at heights of 4″, 8″ and 12 inches to illustrate motion transfer. The disturbance it caused was measured: the larger the lines, the greater the disturbance.
The Purple Hybrids’ motion transfer results.
Given the bounce of these mattresses, it is not surprising to find that they do not offer motion isolation. I think this means you might feel movement across the three mattresses. How Long Does It Take For Purple Mattress To Expand
The best mattress for sex is one that has enough bounce and motion isolation to allow you to move easily.
If you are light sleeper, the Purple Hybrids may be too bouncey for you to share.
But if you’re not easily disturbed at night, they could be nice options for sex thanks to their lift and mobility.
All Purple Hybrids are extremely cool.
Any of these beds is suitable for hot sleepers. They are also among the most comfortable and cooling you can buy.
This is great news especially for couples, as they tend to heat up faster than solo sleepers. How Long Does It Take For Purple Mattress To Expand
Edge support can be described as the degree to which you are able to rest on one side of your mattress and still feel supported. Great edge support can make your mattress feel a bit bigger, since you can spread out across its entire surface.
All three Purple mattress had good edge support. I could feel the Purple grid layer compress under my weight, but the foam and coils below stayed firm and supportive.
Personally, I thought that the Purple Premier 3 had some of the best edge support. How Long Does It Take For Purple Mattress To Expand
What are Purple Hybrids Made Of?
Let’s see what these beds actually are! You will be interested to learn more about the Purple Grid Layer. This is the stretchy purple top layer that gives Purple mattresses their unique feel.
Below I’ll detail the grid as well as all of the mattress layers. It is important to remember that all Purple Hybrids have the exact same construction. The only difference is how many inches of the Purple Grid each bed uses.
Cover All these mattresses come with a waterproof and stretchy polyester-blend mattress cover.
Comfort Layer Just below the cover is the hyper-elastic, smart comfort grid. This grid is supportive, bouncy and extremely cooling. It is difficult to describe how this polymer material feels. However, I would compare it to a waterbed because it wraps around your body as you move. The Hybrid Premier 3 Purple uses 3 Inches of Grid and the Hybrid Premier 4 4 Inches. The grid is more dense, so the mattress feels more pressure-relieving.
The Purple Grid.
Transition Layer Next you’ll find a layer poly foam. The transition foam acts to allow the sleeper to move down through the soft grid and onto the firmer pocketed coil below.
Support Layer: The bulk of Hybrid Premier or Hybrid Premier mattresses consists of a section made of pocketed coils. These springs are extremely bouncy, so help to further lift the sleeper up and out of the structure. In general, you’ll likely feel more “on top” of these beds as the polymer grid and pocketed coils produce a ton of buoyancy.

Purple Hybrids Unboxing And Off-Gassing
Purple Hybrids all come in a box, but are actually packaged in bags! Purple delivers complimentary white gloves to Hybrid Premier beds because they are very heavy. While the original Purple Hybrid is not as difficult to lift, it’s still worth having someone nearby to help you bag it. They don’t have an overpowering off-gassing odor, which is a plus for these mattresses. Any scent should disappear in a matter of hours.
Let me conclude my review on Purple Hybrid Mattresses. Now it’s time to make a decision about whether one of these mattresses is the right choice for you. Although I cannot make that decision for your, I can offer some suggestions to help you.
Purple Hybrid mattress are my favorite.
I love the cooling effect of Purple Hybrids. They don’t trap body heat and should therefore be comfortable for most hot sleepers. The Purple Hybrid models are very responsive. Combination sleepers will have no trouble changing their positions on these beds.
I love the feeling of the Purple Grid. The Purple Grid is great for helping you maintain a healthy spine alignment. It also feels amazing in relieving pressure. You will find it to be extremely comfortable, especially if you go for the thicker models. If you’re willing to test out a more unique feel I think the Purple might be a great fit for you. My Purple Hybrid mattresses complaints
Purple mattresses may not offer the best motion isolation. This is not a problem, but if you are constantly disturbed at night, you may want to consider a traditional memory foam mattress. It will absorb more motion.
I do also want to note that a few customers have complained about the original Purple mattress sagging and forming indentations. Purple Hybrids will last longer due to the layers of innerspring coils. But heavier people may want to choose a different mattress. If you decide to purchase any Purple bed, ensure you place it on a solid platform, not a box spring, and rotate it 180 degrees every few months to increase its lifespan. Purple Hybrid Vs.
Let’s take an in-depth look at Purple Hybrid Premier mattress and Purple Hybrid Premier mattress.
Purple Hybrids vs Leesa Hybrid
The Leesa Hybrid is similar to the Purple Hybrids and combines foam layers with pocketed coils for support and pressure relief.
However, it has more of a traditional feel than any of the Purple beds, so could work for folks who aren’t sold on Purple’s unique feel.
In general, I’d recommend the Leesa Hybrid for back sleepers and couples.
Purple Hybrids vs Casper Hybrid
Casper, unlike the Purples, has zoned support. This means that it’s firmer around the hips and more comfortable at the shoulders.
Purples are more bouncier than Casper Hybrids, which combination sleepers may appreciate.
The Purple 3 & Purple 4 relieve a little less pressure than the Casper Hybrid. How Long Does It Take For Purple Mattress To Expand
Purple Hybrids and Original Purple
The Original Purple mattress’s support layer consists of high-density, poly foam rather than pocketed coils.
The Original Purple is supportive. It’s bouncy and firm. Combination sleepers may particularly enjoy this feeling.
Like the Purple Hybrids, the Original Purple mattress is incredibly cooling, so it could be a good fit for folks who overheat at night.
The Original Purple is much cheaper than either Purple Hybrid Premier and Purple Hybrid Premier.
