It currently sells three kinds of hybrid mattresses: Purple Hybrid Premier 3, Purple Hybrid Premier 3 & Purple Hybrid Premier 4 There is only one difference between the beds: how much Purple’s grid layer is included in each. Stomach sleepers are likely to enjoy the supportive feeling that the original Purple Hybrid offers.

How Firm are the Purple Hybrid Mattresses?
Next, let us get into how these bed in a box hybrids feel. Below, I’ll describe what it was like to sleep in each of the Purple Hybrid hybrid models. Feelings are subjective and will vary depending on your body type and preferred sleeping position. Referring to the above, I am approximately 5’9″ and weigh 125 lbs.
As you will see in the graphic, I found that each mattress had its own feel.
Purple Hybrids and the mattress firmness.
Purple Hybrid. This mattress is quite firm. When compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, it’s clear that this mattress is going to work best for those who like a more supportive feel. This mattress is best for stomach and back sleepers, since the polymer layer of the polymer is thin enough that it can support a straight spine from hips to shoulders.
Purple Hybrids are great for back sleepers.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 – I gave this bed an 8.6 out of 10. It felt medium-firm to me. I’d especially recommend this bed to combination sleepers who move between multiple positions in the night and those suffering from lower back pain or looking for a mattress for sciatica . It struck a really nice balance between pressure relief and support that I think could feel comfortable in most sleeping positions.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 could feel great for couples who are looking to sleep together.
Purple Hybrid Premier4: This bed scored a 6/10 on the mattress firmness scale. This soft mattress really supported my pressure points and allowed for a lot of sinkage. But I didn’t feel “stuckin” the mattress. Side sleepers and side-combined sleepers would love this mattress. I believe these people will love the pressure-relieving comfort of this mattress.
Side sleepers will enjoy the Purple Hybrid Premier 4

Are Purple Hybrids good for light sleepers (under 130 lb)
Light Back Sleepers — The Hybrid Premier 3 I think is a great choice for light back-sleepers. It fills in their lumbar regions to provide good pressure relief. And it is supportive enough for those with lighter bodies. They could also use any of the other hybrids.
Light Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is the way to go for these sleepers as well. It offers great pressure relief, which is important for side sleepers.

Are Purple Hybrids suitable for average-weight sleepers (130 – 250 lb), or are they not?
Average Weight Back Sleepers – The Hybrid Premier 3 is a nice fit for these sleepers, since it combines the pressure relief and support. It is ideal for people who move between sleeping positions at night.
Side sleepers of average weight – The Premier 4 is the best choice for these sleepers. The Premier 4’s thick top layer is made of hyper-elastic plastic and provides pressure relief at the hips and shoulders.

Are the Purple Hybrids Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 lb)?
Heavy Back Sleepers — I would suggest these sleepers stick to Premier 3, which is thick and durable but not overly soft.
Heavy Side Sleepers – The Premier 4 is an excellent choice for heavy side sleepers. These people will find the Premier 4 comfortable due to its thick grid layer that allows for lots of sinkage.
Heavy Stomach Sleepers – I wouldn’t recommend these beds for heavy stomach sleepers. They will need a firmer, more supportive mattress. It might be better to choose one of our top-rated mattresses for heavy persons. Casper Purple Mattress
Purple Hybrids Pain Relief Performance
Pain relief is closely tied to pressure relief, which is a measure of how well a bed is able to alleviate tension at the shoulders, hips, and lower back. A pressure map is a great way to test this.
Although it sounds complicated, it is actually very simple. I just roll the gizmo and then hop on the map. The gadget records the force of my body on the map and gives me a colored “map”. The blue areas denote low pressure while the red areas are high.

Back Pain Based off these pressure map results, we believe that the original Purple Hybrid will be the best option for back pain sufferers. The map is bright blue throughout, but does not gape around the lower spine like the Premier 3 & 4 maps. This indicates that the original Hybrid is maintaining my weight evenly supported. This is important in order to avoid back pain.
Shoulder pain Based on these findings, all three of the beds are great options for shoulder pain sufferers! They should do a nice job cushioning the shoulder area to relieve pressure.

Motion transfer refers the amount that is detectable in the bed from one side to the other. This is an important aspect for everyone, but it’s especially important for couples and people who share a bed with their child or furry friend.
I dropped a steel ball weighing 10 lbs from heights of 4, 8 and 12 inches. This was to demonstrate motion transfer.

The best mattress to use for sex has enough bounce and motion control to be easy to move on.
Personal opinion: I find the Purple Hybrids a bit too lively to share if one is a light sleeper.
If you don’t mind being disturbed at night, these guys could be great options for sex because of their mobility and lift.
Cooling
All of the Purple Hybrids are incredibly cooling.
All of these beds will be comfortable for hot sleepers. They are also among the most comfortable and cooling you can buy.

Edge Support
Edge support is the ability to comfortably sleep on one side of the bed, while still feeling supported. Great edge support can make your mattress feel a bit bigger, since you can spread out across its entire surface.
All three Purple mattress had good edge support. I could feel the Purple grid layer begin to compress under my weight but the foam and coils below were firm and supportive.

What is the Purple Hybrid?
Let’s now get to the bottom of what these beds are made from! You will be interested to learn more about the Purple Grid Layer. This purple top layer is what gives Purple mattresses their unique look.
Below you will find detailed descriptions of the grid as well the other layers. It is important to remember that all Purple Hybrids have the exact same construction. There is only one difference: how many inches of Purple Grid each mattress uses.
All mattresses have a cover made of a stretchy, breathable polyester blend.
Comfort Layer The hyper-elastic comfort grid is located below the cover. This grid is supportive, bouncy and extremely cooling. It is difficult to describe how this polymer material feels. However, I would compare it to a waterbed because it wraps around your body as you move. The original purple Hybrid used 2 inches of Grid, while the Hybrid Premier 3 and Hybrid Premier 4 use 3 inches and 4 respectively. The more grid there is, the more pressure-relieving the mattress feels.

Next, you will find a layer with poly foam. This layer of transition foam helps to ease the sleeper through the soft top grid into the more robust pocketed coil system.
Support Layer A section of pocketed coils makes up the bulk of the Hybrid Premier and Hybrid Premier mattresses. These springs are very bouncy and help lift the sleeping person up and out of their structure. These beds will make you feel “on top”, as the pocketsed coils and polymer grid create a lot of buoyancy.

Purple Hybrids Unboxing & Off-Gassing
Purple Hybrids can be described as all-bed-in a-box mattresses but come in bags. Purple provides complimentary white glove delivery on Hybrid Premier models. They are extremely heavy. Although the original Purple Hybrid is easier to lift, I recommend that you have a friend to help with unbagging it. They don’t have an overpowering off-gassing odor, which is a plus for these mattresses. Any scent should fade within a few days.

I love the cooling effect of Purple Hybrids. They don’t trap body heat and should therefore be comfortable for most hot sleepers. The Purple Hybrid models are very responsive. These beds are great for couples who want to change their positions.

My Purple Hybrid mattress complaints
I will say that the Purple mattresses don’t feature the best motion isolation out there. While this isn’t a dealbreaker, if you’re really easily disturbed at night you might want to opt for a more traditional memory foam mattress, which will do a better job absorbing motion.
However, I would like to point out that some customers were unhappy with the original Purple mattress’s tendency of sagging or forming indentations. I think the Purple Hybrids will be a bit more durable thanks to their innerspring coil layers, but heavier folks especially might want to opt for a different mattress if this is a concern.
